For those unaware, Dean Ambrose wrestled the Undertaker on Smackdown this week. For those unaware, I accidentally spelt Ambrose wrong a few times including in the thread title, a sign I should proofread more. Thanks for fixing that, Loss. I may be jumping the gun in thinking this segment deserves its own thread here but I suppose time will be the judge of that. I should note that I painstakingly watch about 75% of WWE programming on a weekly basis and have been for the last year or so. I've been entertained mostly, bored slightly and bewildered a lot less than you would think. My intelligence has been insulted a few times, sure, but its a fun ride and I'v…

WARNING: VERY TL;DR Since this has come up in two unrelated threads this week, I might as well devote a topic to it. While I have plenty of sympathy for him, I've been surprised that the reaction to his documentary and the information he gives therein has been what it is. I fully believe that WWE told him they weren't clearing him for the reasons he gave in the documentary, that they felt one of his bicep tears hadn't fully healed (his doctor disagreed) and wouldn't clear him to be hired unless he had it repaired surgically at his own expense. But I don't believe that's necessarily why WWE made the call. We can say what we want about Ryback or The Roc…

I thought I would start a thread since there are tons of people here either going to other shows during Mania weekend or ordering the iPPVs. If you are going or went to a show this weekend, I would love to hear your thoughts. Friday's night shows... ROH Evolve CZW TNA House Show

If you didn't buy any or take part in the project so far, not really interested in your thoughts. If you picked up some sets post-voting I would still entertain your opinions. If you chose to participate in some, not others I would love to get your opinion and why you exempted yourself from some of the promotions. I am excluding the 1st WWF set from discussion because the current project is fundamentally different from the initial project. These are the sets that have been released so far. Hello there everyone and welcome to my match review of MVP vs Togi Makabe from NJPW Cup 2011 - Day 4 held on the 19th March 2011. Obviously the commentary for this match is in Japanese but still that’s just a minor detail. I must point out that I found this match on YouTube. The video begins with both men in the ring facing off. Togi comes off the ropes and chargers towards MVP but is met by a big boot from MVP. Togi comes charging back at MVP again but this time MVP hits him with a belly to belly throw and Togi rolls out of the ring to regroup. MVP plays up to the crowd in true MVP fashion, as Togi is collecting his senses on the floor. MVP goes after Togi on the fl…

So, this was a pretty nice thread for the US workers and I thought it would be interesting for the Canadians as well. I think Bret Hart, Ivan Koloff, Rick Martel and Chris Benoit are pretty easy on the list. However, who are the other six? Owen Hart, Chris Jericho, Steve Corino, Roddy Piper, Abdullah the Butcher, Christian, Killer Kowalski, Pat Patterson, Gene Kiniski, Mad Dog Vachon? Some of these guys have a real lack of footage. This seems harder to make a definitive list than the US.

So WM XXX is going to be in Mid-South's old stomping grounds of New Orleans, but all the major players are already inducted. Just off the top of my head you have Duggan, DiBiase, JYD, Ladd, and of course Watts himself. I'm thinking Magnum TA and Mr. Wrestling II perhaps, or maybe they'll make another run at Sting since he got his first big break in the UWF.

I was reading the current Observer and Meltzer discusses the current plans for Mania and I thought now was as good of a time as any to break off Wrestlemania discussion from the Current WWE thread. So much speculation. So many wrestlers with no clear plan. So many bad storylines. Anyway, according to Meltzer, this is what we have on the ticket to far... The Rock vs. John Cena HHH vs. Brock Lesnar Jack Swagger vs. Alberto Del Rio CM Punk vs. Undertaker So, still waiting for plans for Mark Henry, Sheamus, Jericho, Ryback, the Shield, etc. Lets keep the fantasy booking and Wrestlemania complaining in this thread.

So, who's the scariest person in wrestling to you? I don't mean, "This dude could kick my ass" scary. I mean, "This dude may murder me" scary. Like, I know Mark Henry could totally fuck a lot of people up, but he seems like he's a good guy. My pick is Mr. Donnie. I could totally see this scenario* where he convinces a fucked-up Tommy Rich that they should break into Lawler's house. Nothing big, just steal some shit he doesn't need to fence for drugs. They get there, and Lawler's unexpectedly home and Mr. Donnie calmly kills him while Rich freaks out. Now Donnie has Rich by the balls and it's all downhill from there. *This may be related to the fact that I…

One thing I've seen pop up from time to time is that so many people never saw the NWA in the 1980s, but watched the WWF. I don't mean they were selectively choosing not to watch the NWA in most cases. It's usually more that people say they didn't have access to it. I feel like I need explanation on this. Even if there was no syndication, wouldn't TBS be in every household with cable? And I realize not everyone had cable then, but I don't hear people saying the same thing about Prime Time Wrestling or TNT, which were on the USA Network. Was USA available through more cable companies than TBS in the early days? It's just something I want to understand, because I t…

Evan Bourne is still contracted?! You may ask and the answer is yes. Despite Vince and Triple H being rumored not to like him, there are many reasons why he could still be contracted. I talked to a former WWE creative guy on Youtube and he said he only met him once but that he was very polite. As you may or may not know John Cena, The Miz, Ricky Steamboat, Bret Hart, Sheamus and even Mick Foley have spoken positively about him. From what I know from his podcast with Colt Cabana, he's humble and doesn't care about winning and losing matches. He sells great, he's like WWE's crash test dummy, he's got a degree in marketing and helped promote WWE in Brazill in 2010. H…

http://www.wwe.com/inside/paul-bearer-passes-26096670 That stinks. Every shoot I've seen with him he totally came off as a really cool, funny, and nice guy. I always loved him as Percy, and even though I personally thought Paul Bearer was annoying, he brought a lot to The Undertaker gimmick for years and was over as rover.

I'm on a bit of a shoot kick at the moment, watching some of the more recent ones. I've just watched the first 30 minutes of the Vince Russo Guest Booker one. Things started off pretty well for Russ -- I absolutely agree with him that characters and emotional investment are more important than moves or match quality. Nothing new there. But then as he kept talking my blood started to boil. Russo starts the interview by rejecting the label of a booker. He says he was never a booker. He was a television writer. He elaborates on why a writer is necessary in today's wrestling. When Sean Oliver asks him why so many guys now lack the personalities of the people he worshi…

Ok this is a little game that I thought of on another board a few years back that basically defines certain wrestlers best matches as well as opening up peoples eyes to other matches they might not have known about. The way it works is the first person would name a wrestler and what they think their best match is. Then people reply with what they think until there are 3 replies with the same match, on that third and deciding reply that person would then name a different wrestler and continue the chain. We could do 5 replies of the same match but that might take forever with such differing opinions. I'll start it off with Terry Funk and say his match against Flair…

Was thinking about this after the brief discussion on Buck Robley in the HHH thread. We talked about Buck there but here are others guys that come to mind: Chris Colt - I actually just finished reading his bio in the Greg Oliver Heels Hall of Fame book (aside: great book, but totally absurd that Buddy Rose is not listed in the book and guys like Colt are) and he was a far more interesting guy than he is given credit for. I love him in the Portland footage as this total scuzzbag, grimey, street punk getting in fights with grandma. He literally looks and works like an LA hustler who would have been hanging out with Darby Crash turning tricks for dope money. Sadly …

Alright, so as I've said, I'm very down on the current mainstream product and have been really for a long time now. Going on for about 10 years now. The reasons for wrestling being "broken" now have been noted many times before by many people - meaningless titles, too many PPVs, every wrestler being invincible/ able to take 2-3 finishers at big shows, underselling, the total eradication of any semblance of realism, the death of kayfabe, the inability to run long angles, the fact that we seem to be perpetually stuck in the same moment, etc. etc. I've given up a long time ago, hell, I mean even if someone told me that WWE was the best it's ever been, I couldn't bring myself…

I'll be posting results during the show and feel free to leave comments here while the show is going on. Kind of bummed the entire show isn't in a cage but fuck it... free tickets!!!
