  1. This is more of a question than anything. We all know the basic formulas for singles matches (shine > heat > comeback > finish) and tag matches (shine > face in peril > hot tag> finish). What I'm wondering about is alternative structures. For example, on the All Japan set, few if any of the matches seem to conform to the standard American face vs. heel formula. If anything the structure there, from what I've seen after 4 discs is: Matwork (face dominates) > matwork (heel dominates) > transition to bigger impact moves until nearfall > back to matwork > transition to strikes and high spots > finish There seems to be a …

I didn't see a topic about this. Anyone get this set? I know Loss and company did. I hope to have the money in sometime next week. Looking very forward to this as I hope it's not as hard to watch and rank as the Mid South set was, I don't mean that as a bad thing, it's just that there were so many matches and they blended together. The response over at DVDVR seems to be positve. What do you guys think? Feel free to use this as a discussion topic.

I thought I'd use this thread to drop info on various matches that I see differently after a second viewing, and also to see if anyone can sway me on the matches I'm a little wishy-washy about. First, I'm curious what people's opinions are on the Bret Hart vs Diesel matches. Which match do you think is better - Royal Rumble or Survivor Series? Survivor Series tends to get more praise, but I liked the work of the Rumble match so much better, even though the booking was atrocious. Also, some of the spots aped in the rematch (Bret's fake out leading to the small package and Bret tying Diesel to the ringpost with his wrist tape specifically) came across much better in the…

Happy New Year my fellow PWO members, hoping much joy and happiness comes your way. Now that we're in a new year just wondering about predictions that might or we would like to happen. With me at a point I believe AEW will run Dynamite against Raw for one night, maybe they get crushed or maybe they succeed I just feel it will happen.

  9. Here's my ballot for the 2021 GME. I only had a few months to put together a list for last year and I wasn't completely pleased with it. I've had over a year to fix that and I've discovered so many great matches since then. I could probably put together a list of 100 matches that I wish I watched/revisited, but I'm still happy with my 2021 list. Since 2020, I've finally been able to get into stuff like shoot-style and World Of Sport. Discovering how mental wrestling was in Puerto Rico has been another highlight of my wrestling viewing over the last year. 6/9/1995 is still the greatest match ever and I can't see that ever changing. 1. Toshiaki Kawada & Akira T…

What the hell people. WWE TV everybody hates is worth a thread every week but someone's death isn't? Has to be up there for most underrated indy performers of the last 20 years. Great mechanic who never really got his due. Best known for his stuff in ROH, but he actually seemed to develop his game quite a bit after leaving ROH. Here's a pretty cool wargames with him that surfaced recently.

  12. We've had a bunch of activity with people making top 100 matches lists and I figured fuck it, lets start a thread. So in honor of Tim, I decided to start the "So So Good" Top 100 Matches of All Time thread. So if you've got a top 100 matches list, share it! If you don't, make one! Lists are fun! I've been playing around for a few days and was making changes up until 15 seconds ago. There are a ton of things I'd like to rewatch to make sure I get the correct dates. There are definitely some Buddy Rose, Fujiwara, Fabulous Ones, etc matches I'm sure would make a top 100 for me but I need to rewatch to be sure I get the right Fujiwara/Super Tiger for example. But in the …

  13. I've been watching quite a bit of Continental recently and decided to just go ahead and make a topic for the stuff I write about it instead of continuing to post everything in the What Are You Watching thread. Outside of some people of Wrestling Classics who talk about the territory like it was the greatest wrestling ever, there really is not much talk about Southeastern/Continental pre-Eddie Gilbert days. But I have to say most of the stuff I've seen from the territory has been at least good. Some of it being REALLY good. Hopefully anyone who has something to say about the territory or any of the main stars from it will feel free to chime in and this won't just be me wri…

I was thinking during the unveiling of the GWE that some people seem like they watch matches out of context. I used to do that but I much prefer watching a full card. My partner & my friend & I usually watch an event once a week & then give out our after show awards. MVP, MOTN, LVP & rank the event on a scale of 1-10. I feel this is better way to gauge wrestlers cause you appreciate that talented ones more when you see the dreck they're surrounded by. My question for you is, do you prefer matches or full shows?

I am having total knee replacement in December. The doctor says it will take 2 to 3 months to get over the operation. I am going to watch a lot of wrestling during my time off. I have not been following the indys . What promotions should I watch . Just off you tube presence , I guess Beyond, AAW . PCW Ultra , Game Changer and Defy are the top indys in today's market. Please let me know if you any viewing suggestions. Thanks

  17. In the "Cancellation of Jim Cornette" thread a couple of PWO Good Brothers were nice enough to request that I recap one of Jim Cornette's recent match reviews, like I have done several times with other topics in the past. I mentioned that (due to my being a subscriber to Conrad Thompson's Ad Free Shows service) I have access to some other interesting podcasts/interviews and I would be willing to recap those as well, if anybody was interested. Quite a few of you mentioned that you would be interested in reading some of these recaps if I was to start a thread dedicated to that idea. So I have decided to start a thread here and catalogue all of my most recent epic leng…

Hi does anyone have a complete match list of the 90's AJPW classics that re-aired on TV after 2005? I'm specifically looking for the top tier matches such as the famous four pillars tags & singles etc from 1990 - 2000. I know they've been uploaded to the classicpuro83 youtube channel i just want to know what source they originate from as they're in perfect picture quality? Thanks

Despite the Mexico City area getting bumped back in the higher COVID status, the show is going on at the Mexico City Arena (limiting the crowd to 25% capacity in a venue that normally seats about 22k) Due to ongoing legal issues that would have AAA get clowned like people do Impact if anyone could stay awake long enough to read them all, there is technically no way to watch the show outside of Mexico, but cubsfan will be streaming the show on Twitch if you want to watch it. Despite that, the card is actually looking pretty good. The Lineup: Kenny Omega vs Andrade for the AAA Mega Championship Faby Apache vs Deonna Purrazzo title for title AAA an…

https://slamwrestling.net/index.php/2021/08/12/dominic-denucci-dies/ Probably a name that is only familiar to many as Mick Foley's trainer and maybe an old dude from early 80s WWF. He was actually a major star in 60s Australia when that territory was on fire, before settling in for a long stint in the Northeast as one of Bruno's main paisans. On my old podcast, Titans of Wrestling, Dom became kinda a mascot for us, appearing as he did so often in the Backlund era WWF we were reviewing. Actually has some pretty awesome matches on tape, including a tag with Victor Rivera vs the Blackjacks from 75 that is one of the wildest brawls from old WWWF TV, an equally wild TV br…

  25. Just something I decided to whip up for the summer -- everyone loves a tournament! I got the nominees from the WON awards because I figured it would take too long to have posters here nominate. I don't think anything major was omitted. I also seeded using WON vote shares so if something seems too low or too high, blame them. Feuds are not limited to one particular time period outside of the 90s so those that carry over across promotions or over several years are considered as "one" feud. I also tried to consolidate where possible (for example: Misawa vs. Jumbo should include both singles and tags when considering) Easiest way to vote is C+P the bracket into a po…
