Honestly, this chick is crazy. I can not help but find it humorous that John Morrison still has to take the wrap for her antics though. I remember right after she was released she tried to show up at a show with John Morrison and get backstage too.

This can go either way. This can be a guy you hated at one point and now like or a guy you loved but now dislike. It can also be for guys you liked as a mark, rebelled against when you started to become smart and then found your love of said worker again. I'll start it off. The Ultimate Warrior: I bought into the meme that he had very little merit as a worker for the longest time. I laughed at all of the jokes and made a lot of them. Then I started rewatching a lot of WWF stuff from 1989 into 1991. I was a little surprised by what I saw with the Warrior. During this time period he had two pretty good matches with Rick Rude, an all time classic with Randy Sava…

  5. That's the thing, though. The people who went to the school. WWF was inclusive. If you were a WWF Fan, that was enough. That was like going to the school. Then the bully was on your side. As for Stone Cold, there are plenty of examples of him being a bully and stunnering people that didn't deserve it. Stunnering HHH or The Big Show isn't bullying. Stunnering Holly every week for a year and stealing his beer money is bullying. The notion that the WWF/WWE is like a school where everyone roots for everyone on the team is nonsensical. Hogan vs Savage in MSG in early 1986. They're both on the WWF "team". So were the fans rooting for both? Savage-Ste…

From the clips on YouTube, it looks like this was really good. So I'm wondering: 1. Has the match ever been released in full? 2. Has anyone here seen it? 3. How was it? 4. Is it something that would make the 1995 yearbook?

  7. Who had the greatest "well past their prime" career outside of Funk and Flair? I think Bockwinkel would be in the conversation. Who else? People talk about Thesz and Edouard Carpentier, but were they any good at that age? To give some dates for when key people were 45: Thesz in 1961 Carpentier in 1971 Verne Gagne in 1971 Fritz von Erich in 1974 Bockwinkel in 1979 Sammartino in 1980 Baba in 1983 Inoki in 1988 Hansen in 1994 Tenryu in 1995 Savage in 1997 Hogan in 1998 The number of people who actually wrestled past 45 in major promotions is actually quite small. A lot of guys were younger than you might think when they retired. To give o…

  8. First of all, what are the genuine contenders? He's some I pulled out of the hat: Starcade 83 - first genuine supercard Hogan defeats Iron Sheik - obvious reasons Wrestlemania I - if it had flopped, Vince would have gone under Clash of the Champions I goes head-to-head with Wrestlemania VI making Sting a big star in the process Bash of the Beach 96 - obvious reasons Last Monday Nitro 1. What other nights would be in contention? 2. What is the "most historic" night?

Branched off from the Rey thread. Do me a favor. Make a new post discussing that ten year period from 1989 to 1998 and support your opinion with some examples. I would love to branch on a new discussion about the era you are mentioning. When the thought first occurred to me, it didn't strike me as all that controversial. But in the interest of discussion, here's a sample of the acclaimed matches that took place during that period. 1989: Flair/Steamboat series, Flair/Funk series, Jumbo/Tenryu series (yes, I know it started earlier), Liger/Sano 1990: Liger/Sano, Jumbo/Misawa (6/8/90 and 9/1/90), MX/Southern Boys, Flair/Luger (Wrestlewar) 1991: Atlantis/Blu…

I've heard some speculation that went along with the "bald" picture that he's hung up his spurs and is done. Seeing him wheeled out of WM was pretty harsh to watch, and it certainly went through my mind I may have been watching his last one out.

Was linked on the WO.com page today: He's way better at smarmy heel promos than I ever expected. I love the added touch of all the HHH merchandise behind him.

Now, Chikara wrote her out with an injury angle. She used to be skinny but in a normal looking way with a naturally slight build. Now... I hope she gets her shit together. This is bad, and also seems indicative of problems throughout the business. And whatever body image issues she may have, it probably didn't help that she photographs oddly and has never looked as pretty as she does in person in photos and videos. It's like whatever caused that was conspiring for this …

In the wrestler comparison megathread, Loss stated, to the shock of many, that he had yet to watch the 1/20/97 Misawa/Kobashi match. It got me thinking that it'd be a good idea for all of us to fess up to the highly acclaimed, historically significant, or otherwise notable matches we haven't actually seen. I'll start. I've never seen Hogan/Andre. Or the HBK/Bret iron man match.

Didn't want to clog up the yearbook thread with this (where John intially started talking about how Omori was wasted during the '90's.) John (or anyone else, Ditch?) was Misawa doing the booking at the end AJPW as we knew it, or was it Baba's widow? It sure seemed like No Fear were on the verge of a big push: - Omori pins Kawada in semi final tag match on 1/23/00 - Omori and Takayama lose contendership match to Vader/Hansen on 2/12 (the tag title match itself was buildup for Vader/Kobashi later in the month) - Omori and Takayama beat former All Asia Tag Champs Honda and Izumida on 2/23 - Omori pins Akiyama and Doc in the Carnival, and loses to Kobashi in the fi…

I started this thread in response to this comment from jdw in the Punk thread: I have always heard you say that, but the NWO angle just started about a month before Hogan's turn. Nash had only been in for a few weeks. What time period are you referring to that didn't draw? The Nitro that ended with Nash's debut (6/10 Nitro) was the last time they lost the ratings war until 1998. Are you referring to the buyrates for Great American Bash and Bash at the Beach that were surprisingly lower for the '96 shows than the '95 shows, when WCW is widely acknowledged to have been really cold? Between the GAB and BATB, there was an approximate 0.25 jump in the buyrate…

  22. Started by Jingus,

This got mentioned in another thread, and thought it might be fun for its own debate. Which company is the all-time worst wrestling federation to ever air on national television in America? One problem with the comparison is just differences in era. TNA is gonna have a hell of a lot more promos and backstage skits and such, because that's just how they do things nowadays. UWF was much more match-heavy, but the matches were often pretty godawful. I admittedly have seen very little UWF, so I don't have much of a dog in this fight. Just a few scattered matches here and there, and I rarely caught the show when it was re-airing on ESPN Classics a while back. …

Here's the match/segment listing for WWE's Best of Nitro DVD. http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/wwe-news...tro-dvd-set.php Looks like they are going to do this as a one-volume release, as opposed to how they are doing things with Raw, in which multiple volumes are being released. Which is fine, considering that Nitro's run was relatively short. They seemed to do a good job picking memorable moments and memorable matches (not necessarily the best Nitro matches, but they are notable ones nonetheless) and threw in a few moments that were crucial to the decline of WCW (the Fingerpoke of Doom among them). Interesting how the list ends with DDP Nitro highlights.…

Colt Cabana vs. Tomaso - Really fun comedy spots from Colt. I eat that shit up with a spoon. Tamaso does nothing for me and I thought the ending was lame. Should have had Colt go over and no one cared about Chamaso. Jay Lethal vs. Mike Bennett - The little Savage tribute from Lethal was way cool. I haven’t seen Lethal since he went to TNA so the Scorpio pony-tail was in full-effect. I thought this was a perfectly fine little match and Lethal got some spunk on that elbow drop. Rhino vs. Homicide - These guys came out with energy and Homicide’s suicide dive was sweet. Damn, when they brought the ladder in, I sorta rolled my eyes but then Rhino dropp…
