  1. I was curious what people think of that match. I had never actually seen it until last night, or if I have I had blocked it out, and thought it was pretty fun, and really well laid out. It seems to be overpraised in some circles (no way would I call it anything close to a ***** match), and it seems to be really underplayed in others. I loved all the opening comedy and stalling, and there were some good false finishes near the end. It seemed to lack any real aggression though, which is what I think kept it from going over the top. The match layout is there for it to be great, but Jeff Jarrett, while he had his strengths, just wasn't the kind of ruthless heel…

Indiana man sues WWE. So, the dude got hurt at Judgement Day 2000 when he was 7. The article doesn't really get into why he's just now filed the lawsuit. I'm kind of surprised that we don't hear about more of this type of thing. I mean, some of those dives you see in some indies, and the around the arena brawls, seem like lawsuits waiting to happen. Maybe if this guy is successful, there'll be more.

not a fan of Miz' but am coming around tonight's match with Morrison was really awesome, though, early Match of the Year candidate, and not just by default. No way it ends up being the actual MOTY, though it might wind up being the best TV match of the year in my book for once, Miz showed guts and talent, and Morrison's work lately has been inspired. Helluva bump he took through the table, too.

  7. I'm trying to create a list of guys who were names during the wrestling boom that are still active wrestlers in WWE. (1) Undertaker (No way does he last much longer) (2) Kane (3) Rey Mysterio (4) Edge (5) HHH (He's been out forever, but I'm still counting him, even though he seems to be moving to a part-time position) (6) William Regal (7) Christian (8) Chavo Guerrero Has everyone else abandoned ship? Is there anyone I'm missing? How did we get to a point where almost everyone in WWE has been wrestling for less than 10 years? I know there are some guys who have been around for a long time, but I'm referring to guys that were at the very least …

  8. I handled this as tactfully as possible at Cageside, but boy, 2010 was lame. If the news stories weren't so interesting, following wrestling would've been a chore. Keith wrote up a fantastic, fully annotated post of the biggest stories we covered on the blog in addition to links to the best stuff we put out throughout the year that didn't tie into the top 10 stories. I'd love to watch more indy Lucha, so maybe my wrestling-related New Years resolution will be to track all of the good stuff and rip it from YouTube to watch on my media player since I'm not a fan of watching stuff on my PC. I'll also make sure to follow Cubs' HQ uploads. Aside from that, dunno what e…

So I am looking at putting together matches for the 2010 set and my wife left me with the kids so I have a Saturday night to watch the PPV. Missed the first 20 minutes. Colt Cabana vs. TJ Perkins - Fun for what it was. Finish came out of nowhere before this had time to build. Sara Del Ray & Serena Deeb vs. Awesome Kong & Daizee Haze - I really enjoyed this match. Working over Daizee's stomach and continuing the attack when she would mount her comeback was solid. Big ending and probably the best women's match I have seen this year but that isn;t saying much.

I was saying to Bix online that one thing that seems to be not quite grasped by some newer fans is how remarkable it is that pro wrestling acknowledges its own history as much as it does these days. There was a time when guys like the Road Warriors, national stars for several years, jumped to the WWF and were pushed as "newcomers". Of course, downplaying accomplishments in other places still happens today, but then, it even happened within the same promotion. I remember Demolition holding the tag titles for most of 1988-1989, and actually having the longest reign ever, but the announcers never mentioning that on the air. Those things were really frustrating for…

So after travelling Australia for 5 months, I'm back for a while until I save enough to go to Europe. I didn't see any wrestling in the time I was there, and two weeks after my return I still haven't watched any, until I sat down tonight with RVD v Jeff Hardy. I haven't watched wrestling regularly for over a year now, but I really enjoyed watching this. Ah, this is a fantastic match, ticks every box for me. RVD turns in his greatest ever performance, and Jeff isn't too far behind. Everything they did seemed (And seems) so fresh and pretty much nothing looks bad. Van Dam is at his best as a heel; he's no good at getting any heat, and but he's so cool, and usually it d…

This is first WWE PPV that has held my interest for over 50% of the show in a very long time. What do everyone think? The opener with Ted vs. Bryan was great, Morrison vs. Sheamus had some neat stuff. Kaval vs. Ziggler also had some really nifty moments even though they weren't anywhere close to being on the same page much of the match. I was pleasantly surprised at the number of near-falls in the 5-on-5 elim tag considering that's a match where wrestlers typically go down to any major move they're hit with. I completely missed the tag title match running to my kitchen and back. The World title match did nothing for me as Edge is just so stale anymore. I thought it w…

Posted here if only because I know it will amuse Loss. AJ was on WOL (in weird kayfabe mode for the first few minutes - "I really could've beaten Rhino tonight," etc). They opened it up to a caller who asked how he felt about being so liked by the gay community. Styles was aghast - the "THE GAY COMMUNITY?" disgusted reply alluded to above. "Because you're so good looking," continued the caller, or w/ something to that effect, before Dave cut him off. "Get him out of here," said AJ and Dave agreed with something like, "Next caller," and it was a little awkward. But it got more awkward later when another caller said he was a fan, but why did AJ care about people's se…

Has anyone else purchased/watched this? I think this more than makes up for that horrible 15th anniversary set as matches and angles are full. I've only made it through the 1993 discs so far, but I'll share some of my thoughts. During the first year, Raw seemed like Vince was trying a Memphis-style studio show. Each week had self-contained angles and the format came off very much like USWA telecasts, right down to the small, intimate arena. I was 9 at the time so I didn't notice but there was a LOT of Hulk hate in NYC when Vince brings him out to team with Brutus. Surprising to hear Vince refer to "pro wrestling" during commentary. I've changed my m…

Yes, I realize the whole concept of stock picks is Phil's idea, but if you're going to steal, steal from the best. Anyway, I'm going through the match list trying to filter it as much as possible, finding stuff I can on You Tube and watching it in order to ensure that everything on the set is needed and that there are no huge gaps. But that's a topic for another time. Right now, let's focus on who was who in '96. STOCK GOING UP Lex Luger: I don't know about the second half of the year so much, but Lex Luger in the first six months of 1996 was great. The run is as good as or better than his more praised 1989 heel run, which I'm also a fan of, but Luger was …

You can't do stream of consciousness threads at DVDVR so might as well do one here. When I am working on compilations or gathering footage, these threads help pass the time and I don't think we are busy enough where it is going to ruin the board if we start doing them. Anyway... The Miz vs. Daniel Bryan vs. John Morrison - Another Miz-BD match I enjoyed. They took a convoluted stipulation three way and turned it into one hell of an opener. The spots to eliminate the third guy while two guys would match up were inventive enough (turantula leading to BD dropkick as an example) that I didn't mind the structure and the end was cool with BD picking up the clean win…

  20. Just wondering what methods you use to review a show or match. Do you watch and then type out your thoughts later? Do you record comments on a tape recorder? Do you write as you are watching? Every time I decide to review a show/match I always find it difficult because I either forget what I want to say after the match is over or I get distracted from the match by "reviewing" it as I watch it. So what do you find is the most effective method without losing quality?

I figure if anyone here was interested in the results I'll put them up on my blog found here (Note I'm going hella slow): http://floydscabana.blogspot.com/2010/09/p...-2000-2009.html Feel free to leave any thoughts/flames about the results. What matches do you think are the best of the 2000s? Any hidden gems or must see matches?

  22. Exactly what the topic says. - It wasn't until last year that I realized that Ernie Roth, after going to the WWWF with basically the same gimmick that he was using as Abdullah Farouk, was probably given the Grand Wizard name as a rib, since it's a high KKK ranking and he was both gay and Jewish. - It took me awhile (though before he died) to realize that Curt Hennig was more grossly steroid-inflated than most of the more cut up guys. I had seen pictures of him when he was super-skinny when younger and knew he used steroids. But then it happen; I forget what the trigger was, but I think there was a moment during his WCW run where I just thought "Jesus H. Christ…

She was the AAA women's champ, and from what I saw wasn't worse than the women WWE has on TV and PPV. I would go as far to say she's probably better than most of them. Also does WWE expect Mexicans (as in people born and raised in Mexico) to speak perfect English? For looks, well here's some photos: With mask Without mask (candid shot): Considering the stories of how she tends to rub people the wrong way in AAA, I get the feeling she went to Florida expecting WWE would hire her without hesitation and they decided to bring her down a peg or two.

Thought this might be a fun topic. Dusty Rhodes: Yes, Dusty killed Crockett by building around himself. Yes, Dusty killed towns by doing the same screwjob finish over and over. But I think Dusty's booking has been so criticized over the years that what he did well has been forgotten in some ways. This is a guy who went on TBS in 1985 with a roster full of guys, and very few had previous national exposure. Ric Flair, himself, Ole Anderson, Ivan Koloff ... that was really it. He got acts like Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, the Rock & Roll Express, and the Midnight Express over to a new audience. In Ricky Morton's shoot with Highspots, he even mentions that Tommy Ric…
