I remember there was a period around 2010 or so where Cena was working the same type of match vs the main eventers and David Otunga and whatever NXT rookie they'd have him face which quite annoyed my 13 year old self. This match is very peculiar-you get to see Cena squash someone, but more importantly you get a sneak peak inside Vince McMahon's sick mind and how he perceives morality as a 45 year old non-wrestler is stripped, made to apologize and poured with barbecue souce. Cole's promo before the match was actually very good, I loved the way he gradually built himself up after escaping instant peril, to the point he reached arrogance, and then immediately reverted to be…

TNA X-Division Champion Austin Aries vs Samoa Joe - TNA Slammiversary 2012 HOLY SHIT! What a banger! This is like the most athletically perfect David vs Goliath match ever! Joe looked like a beast and Aries was just relentless. Everything was crisp and organic. I cant praise this match enough. High octane and furious. It is a sub-15 minute sprint and they just go balls to the wall! They do such a great job establishing Aries underneath and forcing him to get creative and use his speed to even have a chance against the furious power of Joe. Joe blasts him with a kick on a Suicide Dive. Aries needs to hurl his whole body at Joe to even have a chance, but that is v…

An incredible offensive match with all four going balls to the wall with no time wasted. These guys threw bombs and had sequences that were innovative and was nailed perfectly. Marufuji/Ishimori had their working boots on as they put on a great performance with great athletics and double team moves. The finishing stretch was a thing of beauty with Suzuki getting the win for his team. Also loved the contrast of Suzuki being the flashy high flyer paired with Aoki as the technician. A must watch if you're a fun of all four.

Sheamus vs. Dolph Ziggler (WWE No Way Out 2012) Two guys who I felt would have a decent enough shot at making the bottom half of the list put on an incredibly technically sound match. I mean, all things considered, there's not much I can point to in this match and say was "bad" or "wrong." There are even a few things I liked. I liked how Sheamus' arm was the key to the transitions. I liked Ziggler's headstand headlock. Everything else though just felt entirely lifeless. No urgency. No emotion. Just...a blank slate of well executed and well laid out moves. Perhaps that's my own personal bias about the workers speaking through but that's how I felt about this particul…

This is a really good stiff battle. There's a funny moment on commentary where they're extolling Dolph's technical skill in contrast to Sheamus' brute brawling style, meanwhile Dolph is unloading a flurry of punches at Sheamus. I really liked how they did the transitions, Sheamus lariating Dolph while he's sitting on the top turnbuckle looked cool and the finish got a cheer out of me. ***3/4
