  1. Find me the good Mighty Zulu match then
  2. I liked the Shoutbox idea actually. It would be cool to have a place to group watch things without a bunch of one liner message board posts.
  3. I have some footage of him as Dizzy Hogan teaming with Ken Lucas in Southeastern, I think around 1983. I need to see whether Ken Lucas was able to make him look good or not, the way it's rumored Bobby Eaton was able to do with George Gulas.
  4. I understand your point about Sabu, but at least he has redeemable qualities and memorable moments. A lot of them. He's not close to Tiger Jeet Singh or George Gulas territory. Neither are Randy Orton or Kane.

One of the worst cases of an extremely talented guy who people don't care about due to WWE not knowing how to use their talent. If people's immediate reaction to seeing Sheamus come out wasn't indifference then he'd be getting more credit based on the merit of having a bunch of REALLY good matches. Did I go into most of his 2012 matches with Del Rio or Big Show even half way interested? No, not really. But pretty much all of them ended up being good, a lot of the times they were the best matches on the PPV. I could see him making my list, but it is hard because there are so many great nominees that I get EXCITED about researching and Sheamus is "just there" regardless of how good the matches end up being.

Definitely have a spot on my list for Butch Reed, although I don't know where. He was the biggest discovery of the Mid-South set to me, and I watched a lot of Doom matches afterwards and they were an awesome team. It's unfortunate he didn't really do anything in his WWF run because that could have probably helped him out a lot on a list like this. The two matches with Dick Murdoch are absolute all time classics in my book.

I have a ridiculous amount of 80s Portland that I haven't been able to really take a look at. But I did watch about 8 hours of 70s Portland a few months ago and what stood out the most about Buddy was the sub par talent he had to wrestle and how much he got out of them. Wrestling guys like Yaki Joe, Frank Dusek and Cocoa Samoa in 2 out of 3 falls matches is not the easiest job in the world.

I fucking love Buddy. Liked him a lot in Mid-South and Memphis but I actually think my favorite Buddy stint was in Global. He was head and shoulders above the rest of the guys there on character work and promos and it made him a huge standout. It's unfortunate he didn't stick around longer there, or anywhere else really. I could see myself voting for him if he could have ever got it together and made a real impact somewhere, but I can't vote for him based on a few fun stints here and there.

It's unfortunate that most of the footage we have of him is after his prime. I'd really like to see 2 or 3 matches of him in the early-mid 70s to get a feel for just how good he was. He's definitely one of the best promos I've ever seen.

I can't see an argument for Rip. I like him, he's a fun guy to watch, was good to come in to a territory for about 6 months and have a hot feud or 2 in the mid-card but that's about all. He usually puts out a good effort but I couldn't even see him making a top 200 list.

He's been a BIG standout for me on the 80s set so far. The final falls with Sangre Chicana in the elimination match from 10/84 felt like a really "big" match. Bigger than anything on the Hell in a Cell PPV I watched right before it. I'm definitely up for more recommendations of things outside the 80s set because I love watching him kick dudes in the face.
  12. Ron Pope aka Mighty Zulu is a guy that worked for a long time but every time I've seen him pop up on tape, he sucks. He was a popular pick for this topic over on Wrestling Classics, and having seen him in some California footage recently I can see why.

I saw that Phil, wanted someone to narrow it down a bit more. Feel free to single out 3 for me.
  14. I'm not saying that I don't follow WWE, I do. I just don't watch every week, I just wait to hear if something is worth watching. Or on the rare occasions that they are doing something I'm interested in, then I check out the shows just for those parts like Rusev or the Daniel Bryan stuff leading to Mania. But I definitely don't waste my time coming up with how to "fix" what's wrong. It's just pointless and makes the fan experience less enjoyable.
  15. I guess I'd just rather not chat with other people about what I'm watching if just about the only thing I could say about is that I hate it.

I could see the thinking being that Rollins has a complete ass-kicking coming for breaking up The Shield, but that it is Reigns who will ultimately dole it out instead of Ambrose. They did have the promo from Reigns that was all about coming back for Rollins so that's probably where it's going.
  17. I think evilclown would have been better off to start by explaining his points about expectations and WWE rather than trolling everyone first. Because he does have a pretty good point. In 2014 the amount of wrestling, past & present that you could find is astounding. If you are a serious wrestling fan, enough to be on this board, you can fairly easily find SOMETHING that would fit your tastes to focus on rather than making current WWE your #1 focus and expecting them to conform to what you want. I follow WWE on a very casual basis because the guys I like don't get used worth a damn and they barely even tell stories anymore. So I watch a lot of Southeastern/Continental with some Memphis & lucha mixed in. There's no reason to be a disgruntled, unhappy wrestling fan any more. It's not 1994 where the only way to watch something else is spend a stupid amount of money on VHS tapes. And the worst thing you can do is fantasy book WWE because it's never going to be what you would book so you'll always be disappointed. Sometimes I wonder if THAT'S the definitive split between a "hardcore and casual" wrestling fan. The "they should do this" urge to fantasy book rather than just wondering what will happen next.

I couldn't have agreed more with your posts about Rusev in the HIAC thread. He's clearly the best act in the company (which has a lot to do with the fact he's about the only guy they have booked well over the past 6 months) and he is way better in the ring than some people want to give him credit for. Also has more heat than Rollins and Brock.

Thanks for the recommendations, will try to get through them over the next week or so.

Ok, so I have seen Fujiwara pimped for years and I can't think of any Fujiwara match I've ever seen. If you were going to give me 3 matches I could find on youtube to watch, what would they be?
  21. goc replied to Grimmas's topic in Nominees
Sidenote, but if you really love SMW you'll like Continental a lot watching footage for this project. SMW really feels like kind of a continuation of Continental at times with how many guys worked both.

vs. Johnny & Tommy Rich - Loser Gets 20 Lashes
  23. goc replied to Grimmas's topic in Tag Teams
I am working on going through and pulling Nightmares matches off of DVDs to put on youtube. Going in (mostly) chronological order so they are masked heels still. Here are the first two: vs. Steve Armstrong & Tommy Rich 6.17.85 vs. Tommy & Johnny Rich 10.7.85
  24. goc replied to Grimmas's topic in Tag Teams
Super underrated team. My dream 80s tag team match would have been Fantastics vs. The Nightmares. I know that Rock N Roll Express vs. Midnight Express is the more "iconic" feud but I always thought that The Fantastics had better matches with MX. From Mid-South all the way to NWA/WCW. I've seen someone say they liked the Jackie Fulton version better which seems insane to me. Tommy Rogers was the star of the team to me but Bobby definitely held his own, especially when they were doing more brawling. I haven't really seen any of their work from Japan though so I'm not sure how much that would help their case.
  25. I was hoping I was about to stumble into a treasure trove here
