[1996-01-01-WWF-Raw] Smoking Gunns vs Psycho Sid & 1-2-3 Kid vs Razor Ramon & Savio Vega vs Owen Hart & Yokozuna (Raw Bowl)
The puns got old fast, but the Magistrator made me chuckle. Some good action, but two of the three finishes were pretty dumb. Still a good way to start off the set, really set the tone for the era.

Dave Meltzer stuff
In college, when I had to work, I would always tape Raw live and then the replay of Nitro that started at midnight or whenever it was.

Not looking promising on the Lynch PDF, in its present format. Basically, it's just an image of the original list, which thus makes it impossible to search the text. I'm exploring conversion processes.

There's a Shane Douglas vs Buddy Rose match on that episode that Douglas wins with a version of a huracanrana. Not historic or particularly noteworthy but awesome in its randomness.

Bobby Heenan DVD
I will have to check it out. I'd love to just grab a few season sets of Prime Time Wrestling. Heenan and Monsoon. Those were the days,

Bobby Heenan DVD
Hugely disappointed with this. Hated how they just ran the same video clips over and over, and some of the sit-down comments were just lifted directly from his Hall induction, which is on there as an extra. I would've loved to see just a huge montage of his schtick with Gorilla from Prime Time Wrestling. Just seemed very lazy in the way it was put together. The Brain deserved better.

Definitely would love to see a healthy representation of Smoky Mountain on this one. Wasn't Ron Wright managing DWB in 93? That was great stuff. Any of their antics or promos, please.

Dave Meltzer stuff
As a sports writer who spends about half his year covering college football, reading Dave's "arguments" makes my head hurt.

Wasn't talking so much about Delirious as masked guys in general

Not if they have a day job that would be compromised by revealing their "secret identities."

Comparing Trekkies to RoH fans might be the most insulted I've felt on the internet in the last couple years. As an insult to trekkies?

Dave Meltzer stuff
That Norwegian rant just supports what I've said for years. Dave Meltzer: Decent reporter. Very well connected. Horrible writer. Just horrible.

To be fair, considering that the live crowd at every ROH show I have been to -- as a whole, mind you -- is the equivalent of the Trekkies of wrestling fans, if that's who the company is thinking of when they're talking about "the Internet" I can see that. Or, as previous poster said, could be something as simple as keeping some semblance of kayfabe for Delirious and Haze

Old Mid-South TV, especially during JYD's jeyday, had a major black population on the TV shows.

You'd love Bill Veeck. Oh, I do. And I love the Ed Wood movie. He's so optimistic and yet... so terrible. Like a lot of indy wrestling.

Ridiculous quotes from WO.com columnists
I can see both sides of this argument. I'm a sports journalist, and my frame of reference is pretty much restricted to the mid 1980s onward. For the stuff before that, got to rely on highlights and statistics and make the best comparisons you can. I think comparing guys from different eras in sports is a bit silly given the jumps in physical conditioning and medical ability to repair sports injuries so I try to stick to "best I've seen" when it comes to doling out the hyperbole.

Watched Ed Wood today for the first time in a long time. Watching an overly optimistic filmmaker with minimal talent hustling and conning his way into making movies, and the growing cabal of "unique" individuals he collected along the way, reminded me of independent wrestling.
