So let me get this straight... smkelly wants "realism" in his wrestling, so he prefers guys who have physiques like Cena. How many guys do YOU know walking around in everyday life who are as ripped as Cena?

At least it was self published. The one review of it on Amazon is... amusing. As are the comments about said review.

The use of the "Seven" quote as justifcation was priceless. It really was. Reminds me of people I knew in high school who would quote dialogue from TV and movie characters in term papers.

Death From Above... I'm a journalist, so that's not what I'm saying. I've certainly never played college football (thank God, I probably would've been killed) but I write about it every single day for 9 months out of the year. I understand those who can't do still can have knowledge and certainly right to criticize. An educated or well-versed observer certainly can identify what works, and what sucks. However, I don't think the wrestling the Meltzers of the world enjoy represents what Joe Wrestlingfan wants to see. You have to know your audience, and be able to present what they want to see. Not sure the dot-com guys would be capable of doing that for a promotion that caters to the masses. The smarks would dig it, but that's a very small percentage of the audience. The same criticisms also could be made of current big-league promotions, given the significant dropoff in viewership of the former and the significant portion of the wrestling fan audience that seemingly disappeared when WCW went away. I'm probably rambling now, so I'll just stop here.

I don't know about blaming people, but there are a lot of contradictions out there, like the one you alluded to. I love hearing Bryan Alvarez use the talking point about how current WWE would never hire guys that don't look like cookie cutter bodybuilders but he can't help but talk shit about Trevor Murdoch, Mark Henry and Big Show for not looking like what he thinks pro wrestlers should look like. It seems very strange to hear him get so worked up over how Mark Henry looks. By that logic, Stan Hansen, Adrian Adonis and Dick Murdoch shouldn't have wrestled. What a foof.

Got a copy of this through work pre-release but haven't had time to watch yet. Looking forward to diving in.

The double standard of the Internet "journalists" should be included in the conversation about drug problems in wrestling. They make fun of guys like Chris Masters for their obviously enhanced physiques, but guys like Benoit and Eddy got a pass even with their veins-a-poppin look because they were good wrestlers.

This, this, a THOUSAND times this. That dive spot was positively awesome in every way. I'll admit I have not seen a lot of lucha. There were a few moments I did not like but I really liked it. Especially it having that major match feel. The crowd was really into it. Can someone who watches more lucha explain the guy runs off ropes and runs into opponent with neither guy budging or selling? Is the hittee supposed to be dazed by it? Is that common in lucha? Cause that was weird.

Life's been crazy for me so I am still on Disc 1. Thus far, my favorite match is the second in the Hansen/Inoki series.

I would LOVE to see someone from the Meltzer/Keller crowd get the chance to book a wrestling promotion after boasting for years about how they could do it better than the people who do it for a living, have to manage egos, negotiate offce politics, et cetera

Seriously. Really not a weak match on the entire show. Consistently entertaining which, really, is all you can ask out of wrestling.

I'm only a few matches in but really enjoying it so far. I can't imagine all the work and time that went into compiling this sucker.

One of my favorite parts of watching old 80's territorial stuff is the campy/cheeseball factor. This Rude video fits that niche perfectly. Fine character development, too, as the mustachioed ladies man gimmick just seems like something that the Texas rasslin fans would automatically loathe.

Finally getting a chance to dive into this disc. Windham and Rhodes are just so damn smooth, and I reiterate the love for Dustin's crazy bumps for Austin clotheslines, though the second "turned inside out" bump seemed a bit forced to me. I'm always a sucker for the "false hot tag" in a good tag team match, and it worked to perfection here. Zbysko impressed the hell out of me. He was in crazy good shape, and little things like going crazy on the referee at every two-count really added to it. All in all, a tremendously fun tag match, which in a way made me sad because matches like this are so damn rare nowadays. Not sure if I'd give it the kind of love Loss did, but it was damn, damn good.

Got #s 3 and 4 earlier this week and about to tackle 3 with a big mug of coffee.

It can be very effective and add to a match, but very easily can be overdone. I think less is more should be the general rule. Three examples where the screaming thing works would be... 1) when it's part of the gimmick (MsChif or Sting) 2) when it indicates tremendous exertion or effort. Cena does this sometimes when he's in there with a super heavyweight, and I think it's very apt. Obviously it would take more strength to toss around the big fellas and who among us hasn't uttered at least a grunt or two lifting weights or, failing that, furniture? 3) Fighting spirit in VERY rare occasions. Example: Nigel with the big "COME ON!" during his match with Danielson at Unified. Always gives me goosebumps. Oh, and happy to be here on another forum discussing men in tiny pants pretending to pummel one another.
