Is the empire crumbling before our eyes?
That’s not gonna matter once all the other things are uncovered. For the initial civil lawsuit, Johnny can do whatever he can to turn witness to escape what he thinks will be a harshly induced punishment. And this isn’t gonna be one civil case or one criminal case. It’s going to be multiple cases with multiple people charged for multiple infractions. And unless it becomes a RICO case (which could happen but is unlikely), there’s going to be enough uncovered that the proceedings will take years. The senior execs are stuck with negligence at the very worst, and if things lead to an actual paper trail for the other issues to come? Burning it down is gonna be the start of it.

Really should have named this “#IDidItForTheRock”

WWE TV - 1/29 - 2/2 - BROCK PURDY IS THE HEAD OF THE TABLE
The talks about the Rock joining was that he insisted he won the title at WM, which my guess is that TKO said no to, but it damn sure sounds like Gerwitz is in line to be head writer once Paul(s) is(are) predictably gone. Also, by the sounds of who else was backstage last Friday night, the idea that it’s a full scale replacement of creative and production is gaining steam, so deduction seems to lean towards Rock getting his seat and having his guy(s) in place at the very least. I wouldn’t put it past Rock to still jockey to win the title, and then talk about a full reset for TV the week after WM, a “fresh start” and the end of an era and what not. It does seem like an overstep when the true answer is to clean house but at least maintain the creative, but you wonder if TKO will be convinced to go completely brand new with creative to remove any and all Vince-related choices.

AEW TV 1/29-2/5 Is it raining yet?
It was pretty obvious Hechicero was looking for certain times for Bryan to feed him and things looked clunky and then Hechicero did it anyway. Dude is a fucking maestro’s maestro.

I’ve rarely seen Bryan look as shook as he was when Hechicero was doing his craziest shit. Like it was unsettling and a rush all at once. That alone was worth the pairing.

Will laugh incredibly loud if Okada shows up tonight.

We’re all wrong: Rock brought back Gerwitz to head his creative at least for major shows going forward, which essentially is a tryout for him being head of creative if the federal investigation likely leads towards Paul being out. That will certainly be something.

So Cody winning the Rumble was Dwayne insurance, got it.

Ace’s defense doesn’t fly in civil court otherwise he’d sue Vince too and he’s not doing that. And we know what he did during the Diva Search days, so it’s bullshit and shouldn’t be taken seriously.

Black had a suddenness to his offense and a snap to everything he did, but a good chunk of that is now gone due to his back issue. He can adjust somewhat, but I don’t blame him for wanting more money, being with his wife, and maybe some more flexibility.

I watched Okada’s debut from 2022 when he showed up before the Forbidden Door 4-way and man it’s like night and day how hot the promotion was then vs. now. I’m not sure how you get that back with this group given the young guys aren’t exactly lighting the world on fire outside of Swerve, really. All the other folks are tied up in other ways or just ineffective.

WWE Royal Rumble 2024
Y’all are comparing Corporate entities with WWE, who is corporate in name only and doesn’t have the smarts to deal with something that has real-world consequences outside of, “Everything’s a work, brother,” which has been their defense since the steroid trials. They have corporate titles but they’re far from corporate. Holding them to any standard like that is expecting the moon to actually be made out of cheese.

Darby has been this way since long before he even decided to take on wrestling and the worry mongering is fucking tiresome.

That Vince is about as bad as you can imagine. What a vile piece of shit. Him, Laurinaitis, Brock, all of them.

Is the empire stronger than ever? (for two days lol)
I’m actually in the opposite camp of penny pinching. Much like it was with the WWE Network, this is a chance for Netflix to take something that is self-produced and see how it tests from a streaming standpoint. If it sticks and is reliable and a constant stream of eyes on the product, they can use it to go to one of the big sports leagues and show they have the chops to do it for them, too. Hence the opt out; if it doesn’t work, they pivot away. Otherwise, they either lock it in or extend. I see them giving WWE every chance to be worth the investment, and can absolutely see them saying when the Peacock deal runs out saying, “Give it all to us“ and running with it.

AEW TV 1/24 - 1/27 MiSu vs Copeland commercial free, in front of less than 2k fans
They also ran larger arenas because of their post-pandemic peak and that’s causing a big backfire too because they thought that was sustainable.

Let’s not forget dude has neck and knee issues that have been bugging him and the acclimation for a trip to the states is different than up and moving there. I think there’s merit to him getting a surprise Rumble spot, but a few months in NXT allows him to recharge the batteries a bit for after WM. Because if they’re talking like that? It seems that’s what matters most to him. But if he feels good enough? Yeah, get him going for Jersey.

The viewership numbers don’t necessarily matter here: Network was folded into Peacock, and was still heavily promoted with its own area on the front page. Feel like it’ll be a similar situation. Considering Netflix has been upping its subscription costs, to be able to cover the costs, it doesn’t even have to be a loss leader for it to matter. It also says a lot about what WWE thinks of Peacock given Netflix gives them a huge platform. Also not insignificant? The color branding fits right in. It’s stupid but it’s something that works.

Okada seems WWE bound simply because of how he’s exiting NJPW, but then folks talk themselves into him being with AEW because of the history and how Ospreay is exiting in a similar way. Meltz is also reporting how he thought AEW was going to offer more money, but Okada is probably using them like Ohtani used non-Dodger teams. Go get the biggest possible offer, ask WWE to match, WWE matches, and that’s the ballgame. And signing with Netflix? Okada can ask for a lot more.
