The interesting Dave Meltzer posts thread
- The History of the World Heavyweight Championship
If it was the one from '81, wouldn't it say it was from '81? I'm pretty sure this list comes directly from WWE, or at least their DVD distributor.- The History of the World Heavyweight Championship
Not to mention it's a history of the old NWA title and there's only one match from the 80s.- Flair to wrestle for Hulkamania promotion
This is obviously a reaction to Booker T leaving the organization. Now that Booker is essentially persona non grata within TNA, he was free to make good on his promise to join with his brother in "comin' for (Hogan), n*gga." Hulk is just taking refuge in the one safe spot in wrestling.- Flair to wrestle for Hulkamania promotion
F4W:- Bryan Danielson signs with WWE
From the new WON: A number of thoughts here: 1) Nigel, too broken down for the big leagues at 31. How very Dynamite Kid-esque of him. That's sad. 2) I'm surprised to see WWE make such considerations about talent and their injury history, but then again they probably don't really care about missing out on Nigel all that much, him being under the 6'2'', 240-pound mark. 3) Guess that hard-hitting ROH style was really worth it, huh? 4) Am I the only one who find it perversely funny that Nigel's first TNA feud is with Kurt Angle?- Ridiculous quotes from WO.com columnists
Yeah, when JBL was an announcer, Dave mentioned his dated references every week. Like he's one to talk. A few years ago Dave made reference to the classic TNBC series "California Dreams" in his newsletter.- Guest Booker with Jim Cornette
Given the use of Funk and Dusty, I have to assume his idea of what "WCW" represents is mostly based on his time there in the mid-late 80s. Which is understandable, but makes him unqualified to book an invasion angle. Just the fact that he brushes off Goldberg like "eh, he's not worth it" shows that he's totally clueless as to what WCW was during the Monday night wars.- Podcasts
thehistoryofwwe.com has a podcast but I haven't listened to it. One could reasonably assume that it focuses heavily on the 80s and 90s, right? Also the Observer site has Karl Stern's Dragon King podcast which talks about those eras frequently, but of course that site isn't free.- protecting the business
Paul Bearer once told a story about Kamala, during his Sugar Bear Harris days, being hit and berated every week by his wife for losing matches since she didn't know it was a work. This continued until he finally won a $10,000 battle royal on TV. Expecting his wife to be proud of him for once, Kamala caught hell from her for not bringing the money home. At that point, Kamala decided it was time to smarten his wife up. I don't know if that really fits this thread but I think it's a story worth retelling.- Comments that don't warrant a thread
He's always been ugly. But like Bix said, his head is unnaturally large, though actually it's not as obvious in that pic. During a match when his hair is wet you can see how freaky that big ol' dome is.- Comments that don't warrant a thread
CM Punk: First world champion to lose the belt over a dress code violation. LOL- Comments that don't warrant a thread

Nash wasn't wrestling in '89, so it must be Mane.- Comments that don't warrant a thread
That's like saying that because Jim booked (insert SMW or OVW wrestler here since I've hardly seen any of either) to turn heel then he doesn't have the right to complain about Russo booking two heel turns on every Nitro in 2000. I'm sure Cornette wouldn't have a problem with whatever-on-a-pole matches if they weren't tossed out there were no reason or explanation in the middle of an average impact. It's not so much what he does but how he does it, and if pole matches were the worst thing Vince Russo's booking had to offer he wouldn't get a tenth of the shit he gets. Nobody said Vince Russo invented bullshit in wrestling; why, bullshit is practically the foundation upon which wrestling is built. The problem is he doesn't know the different between fun bullshit and stupid bullshit.- 2009 WON HOF thread
The IC title was brought up because someone claimed that the IC title during the time of Rude's reign was the equivalent of today's Smackdown title.- 2009 WON HOF thread

I really don't see the argument for Edge as an HOFer. He carried Smackdown as top heel for about a year, yes, but did he draw during that time? Has Edge ever drawn a great buyrate where he could realistically be given credit for it? Smackdown was canceled by CW while Edge was carrying the show, and while it wasn't his fault, I'm sure it's something that would factor into the HOF chances of someone who wasn't a Meltzer favorite. Also, the news that Bryan Alvarez's friend Vinny has a Hall of Fame ballot raises my skepticism about this whole venture.- Oh, Hulk ...
I thought the Matsuda thing was true.- 2009 WON HOF thread
Uhh, I think if Hogan wasn't in we'd be talking more about him than Big Daddy.- Flair to wrestle for Hulkamania promotion
Meltzer says Flair got Vince's blessing to do the tour. Funny note from the WON though: This guy never learns.- Comments that don't warrant a thread
Well jeez, I didn't think his Invasion ideas were THAT bad.- The Wade Keller Appreciation Thread
- Flair to wrestle for Hulkamania promotion
Wow. A lot to be shocked about here. One, that Hogan's promotion is finally happening. Two, that Flair is returning to the ring in such a manner. Three, that he's working for his good buddy Eric Bischoff. That divorce must have drained his bank account hard. I wonder now if this deal could potentially open the door for Flair to work for TNA. Flair says he wouldn't go due to loyalty to Vince, but he's locked down for three years and even if it's not an exclusive contract WWE won't want to work with him. If he'll work with Bischoff, you'd have to think he'd work with Russo.- 2009 WON HOF thread
Yeah, I was also thinking it was Missy since she did the "Name withheld" thing last year. I suppose it's better to go anonymous than to risk your chance of becoming the oldest WWE Diva in history. - The History of the World Heavyweight Championship
