"He's ambitiously stupid" - Why Scott Keith's new book is scary bad
Not like that documentary was in production well before Montreal. Or that it came out a decade ago!

WWE 24/7 July-September 2007 Thread
The women being dead is a surprise. Dusty as booker isn't, nobody could have anticipated Pritchard being a 20-year employee and I like to think Savage's new look is a natural progression from his wrestling days.

Congress requests WWE drug testing records
There's been a lot made of that quote online ("She thinks all TNA fans are 40-year-old virgins!"). When you look into it, you see that she was preemptively trying to deny that the company's action figures are a direct form of marketing to children. She knew that the committee was bringing up toys for that reason, and she was trying to lead them away from that.

The interesting Dave Meltzer posts thread
For anyone familiar with THE BOARD, I thought you might get a kick out of this. Who would have thought Dave Meltzer would be the one to put Ichiban in his place? Not I.

20 Years Ago - WON 07/11/88
Man, you can't underestimate how dumb the public is. Didn't Howard Stern used to talk about how Chuck Zito could beat Tito Ortiz in UFC? I bet there would have been a lot of people who thought Hogan could kick Tyson's ass. I know weight limits in boxing...limit the possibility of "smaller champ vs huge challenger" fights, but it's something that the public understands nonetheless.

I for one am a fan of this initiative, lest we be robbed of more moments like:

The Ric Flair shoot interview and related stuff thread
Also, he says that he called WCW on his last night with the WWF about signing Bret and they didn't want him. Yeah, I'm sure they didn't even consider the possibility of picking up the current WWF champion. I'd believe that WCW wasn't willing to pay Bret more than what he was making in WWF, which I'm sure was the case, but Flair makes it sound like they just didn't want him at all, and that's gotta be bullshit.

Vince shitting all over Meltzer and claiming he doesn't read the Observer when we all know that's not true is great.

I thought the weasel suit stuff came later, around the time of the Rude feud or maybe even the Andre feud.

Those matches would have been better had Smith been replaced with Balls Mahoney.

I still can't believe Rocco Rock was in his early forties when doing that gimmick. He pulled it off well enough. Nice braids.

I wonder if they wanted him to wear the dress and leg warmers in public.

Question regarding WON posting
Actually, I think I might rather have you stick with '88. I just realized Brody's death is coming up and I want to read what Dave wrote about that, plus the Bash, Summerslam and the saga of Turner buying JCP.

Here's something I've always wondered: What did 2 Cold Scorpio do before coming to WCW? Apparently he was wrestling for seven years before that, but I've been unable to find out where.

So you're saying you want Lawler and WP to babysit them in successive order.

No, the "proof" Re: HHH comes from looking at him and knowing the natural limitations of steroid-free bodybuilding. Dating women in their twenties doesn't make one an ephebophile. It is kind of lame and midlife-crisis-ey, but there's nothing wrong with it. Only times I ever remember a joke about it on national TV was a Paul Heyman comment during the ECW invasion of '97. (The Doug Gilbert thing wasn't national.)

The point was that there's no proof he's ever done that.

Question regarding WON posting
I for one would prefer starting with '89.

Ridiculous quotes from WO.com columnists
It's no surprise that TNA would stoop so low. It was Jeff Jarrett himself who once claimed to be the world's greatest singer, entertainer and wrestler. Turns out he was none of the three. What a bunch of damnable liars. Someone should get a lawyer and sue.

Lucky for WWE it won't be approved for years, and even then it'll probably be years after that before WWE "is convinced of the accuracy and dependability" of the test.

Ah, so Dukes was the guy who threw that boxing match. I knew he was in the PWI Almanac's history section for something.

What the hell is going on here?
I remember the couple of times during the TAFKAG period when he dressed up as Marilyn Manson. That would have been a good fit for his character, maybe not dressing like him, but pushing him as "the Marilyn Manson of the World Wrestling Federation." I guess if he had gone through with the fake breasts, maybe he would have been.

Yeah, that was Luna. We should have a thread about Goldust. What a great character for the first few months. Well, actually, the first couple of months he was a terrible character because he had that weird bodysuit where you could see the outline of his dick & balls. Once they switched to the thicker pleather bodysuit it was smooth sailing. The gay angle was really the first indication I had that WWF was moving away from the "family entertainment" style and going more raunchy. I'll tell you it was mind-blowing considering what the WWF was like in the summer of '95 to hear just a few months later Vince McMahon talking about "the gay community" and "homophobia." (Years later, it's also hilariously disheartening to hear the announcers say that the babyface IC champ Razor Ramon has "homophobic fears," but it IS wrestling. Unfortunately he lost steam throughout the year as he proceeded to do the same exact angle with six guys in a row. After they made it abundantly clear that he was just playing mind games with his opponents, it sorta killed those angles, didn't it? No, Undertaker he doesn't want to fuck you. Didn't you notice he pulled the same shit on Razor, Piper and the Warrior? What about that hot chick he made out with after beating Razor for the belt? Oh well, maybe he was bi. Actually, they SHOULD have made Goldust bi-sexual, and they should have done angles where he had sex with both male wrestlers and female valets. Like when Frank-n-Furter slept with both Brad and Janet. That would have been some good stuff during the Attitude Era, but it really would have hurt whichever wrestlers were tagged with the stigma of "the guy who fucked Goldust." Maybe they could have done it with Mark Henry when they were trying to get him to quit, since he in storyline had sex with everyone from a tranny to an old woman to his own sister. It's too bad they sent Mark back down to OVW rather than continuing his on-screen punishment, because there's no telling how long it would have been before they stuck him with the gimmick of a wrestler who eats feces on the way to the ring.
