[1994-09-17-WCW-Saturday Night] Interview: Hulk Hogan
Hogan continues to show how needy he is. He's hanging out the beach, and he just stands around while people chant his name over and over. Hogan and "Brother Bruti" says they are back on track, and Hogan says he has a surprise. He says at Fall Brawl, he'll reveal how he plans to get Ric Flair right where he wants him.

[1994-09-17-SMW-TV] Rock & Roll Express vs The Gangstas
More of a brawl than the previous matches, which works better for The Gangstas. I guess the match never really got started officially, as they use weapons and toss the referee out. Lance Storm does a run in and seems to be daydreaming about posting condescending Q & A responses online years later. Still, this is a really hot pull-apart brawl that spills into the parking lot, with the Morton/New Jack issue really being highlighted above all. We close things out with New Jack cutting a promo on Ricky Morton, "that little caucasian devil", as Morton causes him.

[1994-09-17-USWA-TV] Tommy Rich & Buddy Landell vs PG-13
Pretty cool match. The bottom rope collapses in the match and they work with it, dragging it into the ring and choking him with it. JC Ice gets worked over as they build to a hot tag to Wolfie D. Lance Russell does so many awesome things in calling this that I barely know where to begin. "Fantasia" is at ringside with a half black half white face and very big Tennessee hair scouting. Disappointing match. I was hoping for much better. But there is stuff here to like. I don't think PG-13 really met their potential until 1995.

[1994-09-17-USWA-TV] Brian Christopher/Doug Gilbert feud recap
Lance, in his charming way, compares this feud to Lawler/Dundee, and says some people probably think he is stretching when he says that, but he isn't. (He is.) Still, this is followed by a series of fun clips from the feud, which has been running for a few months now. This is capped off by a promo from Brian Christopher, which is quickly interrupted by Scott Bowden. I've finally figured out the best way to describe Scott Bowden. He reminds me of a data entry temp that think he's a permanent employee. Rich and Gilbert attack Brian and try to cut his hair, but Lawler makes a save, and wow, seeing them next to each other makes me wonder how people didn't figure out their family ties sooner.

[1994-09-17-SMW-TV] Rock & Roll Express vs The Gangstas
Highlights of a match from Knoxville. The ring has no apron and as a result looks very weird. The Gangstas are great on promos and at getting heat, but they are really green, even though they both have a few decent moves that they execute well. Still, Dave said at the time that Morton carried this feud and from the two matches to make this set so far, that appears to be true. Gotta love Les Thatcher calling New Jack's punches "murderous". The Gangstas appear to win the SMW tag titles after New Jack uses the nightstick and That Racist Les Thatcher is horrible in his reaction. However, That Racist Bob Armstrong convinces That Racist Mark Curtis to restart the match, and Those Racists the Rock & Roll Express win the match and keep the titles.

[1994-09-11] Sabu vs Al Snow
I have to laugh at Damien being Sabu's second during this, but I also have to admit that he's pretty good at it. This is better than most Sabu matches, with far more of a wrestling focus than normal, most of the spots being hit pretty cleanly and Snow's mostly grounded style acting as a nice contrast for Sabu's more reckless stuff. Sabu wins the match after doing some crazy stuff with chairs and tables before the omnipresent Terry Funk shows up and puts a beating on Damien, and this is why this is on the yearbook, as what happens from here is pretty indy famous. Funk and Sabu end up brawling around the ringside area, with Sabu taking some nasty bumps on the building floor and on chairs. Damien ducks a Snow chairshot and Funk eats it, which makes this a three-way brawl. Camera shaking adds to this crazy scene of Funk hitting Snow with a toolbox before swearing at I think Bob Barnett, who's filming this. Sabu does his celebratory table break and you think this is over, then you see that Snow and Funk are throwing furniture at each other in the corner of the building. They end up fighting into the ring and having a nice little brawl before Funk jumps in the middle of the crowd. They immediately form a circle around him. Then we go to the parking lot and Funk is hiding under a van for some reason before coming out and yelling at a laid out referee. Quite the scene.

HHH taking over from Vince on RAW
HHH should get rid of the executive ponytail. I bet it's hard to keep his hair from falling out of that perfect coif during one of those long days at the office.

Dave Meltzer stuff
So I thought Todd Martin said he was retiring when Raw went to three hours? Yet he is still there.

Lanny Poffo - greatest ever camp/effeminate heel?
Ah, I'm reminded of one of my favorite "WTF Dave?" things, when he said on WOL that while Lenny Lane copied his entire gimmick from Adrian Street, Lane was far better in the ring than Street ever was.

[1994-09-10-WCW-Worldwide] Vader vs Brad Armstrong
This is AWESOME. They decide to go balls out for five minutes. Brad Armstrong is too good to have gotten so little of a push for so long. Vader gives him a lot of the match here and he makes the most of it. Really good monster vs underdog dynamic. It's also weird in that the Worldwide Arena seems to have some semblance of real heat. It's here and gone quickly, but what a ride!

[1994-09-10-USWA-TV] Interview: Tommy Rich & Buddy Landell / Tommy Rich & Buddy Landell vs PG-13 / Tommy Rich, Buddy Landell and the Moondogs
One of the best things about Buddy Landell is the conviction with which he talks about people that no one really cares about. He cares, damnit. Rich and Landell is a good team at this stage for both of them. Next up is Rich/Landell vs PG-13. The match lasts about three minutes before The Moondogs come out for revenge and start hitting the heels with garbage cans. They end up brawling into the TV station parking lot. The Dark Patriot ends up helping Rich and Landell out with a board, and Brian Christopher shows up to even the sides. Pretty wild parking lot brawl. It always cracks me up when cars pass by in he background. It makes me wonder what they're thinking.

[1994-09-04-WCW-Main Event] Arn Anderson & Bunkhouse Buck vs Ricky Steamboat & Dustin Rhodes
And ... another fun match from this feud. Steamboat gets worked over by Arn and Buck. They keep the pace up, work the tag formula and deliver a solid effort. Terry Funk trips Dustin to give the Stable the win, but Sting comes out to let the referee know what happened, and the decision gets reversed.

[1994-09-03-WCW-Saturday Night] Interview: Hulk Hogan
Gene interviews Hogan on the beach to get an update on his knee. Hogan complains about WCW execs not doing enough to take control of Flair and talks about everyone being in cahoots against him. He then tears into Gene for being biased against him. Some babyface. The whole promotion is in your pocket. This is Hogan at his most unbearable.

[1994-09-03-SMW-TV] Rock & Roll Express vs The Gangstas
Pretty run-of-the-mill Rock and Rolls match. Not something that really stood out all that much in a good or bad way. I am guessing this was the first competitive Gangstas match. The Gangstas and their "posse" surround Morton and beat him with nightsticks in the post-match as Les Thatcher asks where we've seen this before.
