  1. What about Rock? He mentioned the title in his last promo. How are they going to transition the title to him, and when?
  2. There's a lot to be said about the setting for this match. One of the more memorable rivalries of the early WCW days gets its last opportunity to headline a major show. Flair works overtime to get this crowd to turn against him, and it works as much as it's going to work. He does it to the detriment of the match in some ways, as he spends a lot of time stalling and jaw jacking with fans. The announcers are driving me insane by not shutting up about Hogan. Every time Flair is on the losing end of an exchange, it's because he's THINKING ABOUT HOGAN. Give it a rest. More than having a good match, the goal seems to be to make sure Flair gets booed so Hogan gets a big pop coming out. Not really even a good match, but it's yearbook worthy for many reasons and needed to be here in full. But this is around the time you start to get angry with the promotion for their new direction -- not that Hogan is in, because they would have been fools not to sign him. The problem was more the domino effect Hogan had on everything in the promotion. This was kind of a sad moment for me as a 14-year old fan of the early days of WCW.
  3. I know they're in Charleston, but Hogan doesn't exactly get a hero's welcome in his first appearance in front of a crowd. Pretty funny to hear all the boos. Flair interrupts by Turnertron and looks like a cartoon character version of himself immediately. He does get a nice reaction, though.
  4. Arn tells Dustin that if he wants him to be his partner, he's going to get the old Arn -- the one that will smack his granny in the mouth for 50 cents. Good stuff.
  5. Another really terrific match between these two. This is less sportsmanlike than the two previous matches. Everything just *looks* so good. Crowd is super hot. The exchanges are good, as always, but the psychology and timing of everything to get a crowd reaction is the standout thing about this one. They work a lot of holds you don't see every day, like Larry using a bodyscissors to cut off Regal's offense, and Larry working Regal into a really snug looking piledriver.
  6. I'm sorry, was someone talking? This was probably an okay promo, but I don't really care about Public Enemy.
  7. Paul E. gives a really fantastic promo hyping the upcoming match where Cactus and Sabu will lock up for the first time. Jack does a much shorter promo to close us out.
  8. Why is Lawler wearing sunglasses? He's a terrific heel, but really a waste of him to be feuding with Duke Droese. Droese turning his back in the manner he did was really stupid. Gorilla Monsoon has now referred to just about every segment as pandemonium and it almost never is.
  9. People can have more than one quality. Most of us do.
  10. What does this thread have to do with Matthew Randazzo?
  11. This is a fantastic topic, and I too have noticed this. There is no way to listen to Vince on commentary during Yokozuna matches and not walk away feeling like he was head over heels for the guy. Even though Yoko was a heel, you could just tell that Vince admired him because he thought he was hitting every note of his act so perfectly. Obviously, Shawn Michaels love is a glaring example too.
  12. Any Ric Flair interview where he uses the word "henceforth" rules. This is good - really good in fact - but I'm still bitter and again, Ric has already lost something without Hogan having even had a match yet.
  13. Dustin Rhodes asks Arn Anderson to be his tag team partner. Arn can't answer that question tonight but promises to let him know at the Clash. Yeah, that makes sense??
  14. Ray Traylor is officially sworn in as a Guardian Angel. They did quite a bit to get over this gimmick.
  15. Terry Funk sure thinks people in Tennessee are idiots! THEY HAVE NO MENTALITY! The Funks have been hired by Jim Cornette to come to Tennessee and take on the Armstrongs. I enjoyed this.
  16. Tony Anthony is doing the best work of his career in this feud. Another fantastic promo. Jake responds back at the TV taping. He appears on SMW TV with no hair after the AAA match. Now DWB is making Jake raise *his* game on promos, and that is when you know you are seeing an awesome feud. He works his bald head into the DWB feud seamlessly. Everything Jake does is gold. Jake then works a really fun squash and has Kendo the Samurai bring out a snake. However, Kendo refuses and DWB comes out and we see now that Tony is trying to play Jake's game. Jake heads back to the dressing room and we see that the real Kendo the Samurai has been tied up in the back. Everyone is out and we have ourselves a brawl. After the angle, DWB does an interview back on set where he takes off his eyepatch to announce he is 100% and does another good interview. This is possibly my favorite feud of 1994.
  17. The Rock & Roll Express have a gift to Tammy Fytch to apologize for what they did the week before and they leave a wrapped present for her. It ends up being Bambi, who jumps out and attacks Fytch. How did she stay in there and breathe? And why did Tammy really think this was going to be a great gift? Silly segment.
  18. Video to "Missionary Man" by The Eurythmics. Considering the music being used for videos during this time, SMW and the USWA (and really, probably everyone in wrestling) were having a terrible time letting go of the 1980s. That aside, Brian Christopher does maybe the best interview I have seen from him. Then, we get a clip of the topic, which was Tommy Rich and company doing a number on Brian Christopher in the studio.
  19. I think this is the first yearbook appearance of PG-13 as babyfaces on a yearbook. Here, they celebrate a recent tag title win over The Eliminators. They end up getting attacked. Saturn and Kronus in Memphis just feels strange to me.
  20. Funny seeing the HOF as such a small thing at this point.
  21. Just the finish. A weird post-match thing with Nagai punching Ilioukhine in the gut after the match is over for no apparent reason.
  22. There are quite a few spots that aren't quite connecting in the opening minutes, and you can see that both of them are a little frustrated. I think they wanted to have a good match, but they didn't at all. The Neidhart turn got over though. Ray Rougeau loves to speak to Bret at inappropriate moments!
  23. This has a reputation as a fantastic short match, and for good reason. About as fun of 4 minutes of wrestling can be.
