  5. Cactus panders to the New York crowd before the match. He really wants an Olympic Rules wrestling match. 9-1-1 is the ref. There's a lot of pre-match stuff, but the match proper is pretty short, which doesn't bother me, as I am ready to put 1995 behind me. I'm guessing this is their last match against each other. Not as good as their match in January, which ain't saying much. Sayonara, 1995.

  7. Last few minutes. Woman throws cane shots! Dreamer runs in and hits both guys with the cane and also gives Dreamer the famous cunnilingus piledriver. Sandman finally wins.
  8. Good match, I guess the last good one of the year. Mikey does some fun dives to the outside and Scorpio, who hasn't been overly featured in 1995, looks like a star and is well-positioned going into 1996. Scorpio keeps hitting these finisher-level moves on Whipwreck and picking him up, which is a little too obviously foreshadowing a Mikey upset. The spot of Scorpio splashing the ref after he's trapped under Mikey was funny. Cactus ends up running in to help Mikey win and immediately claiming the other tag belt that was on the line. They overdid the finish teases, but I still enjoyed this.
  9. Stevie Richards approaches Missy Hyatt in the crowd, who calls him a clueless putz. "You don't remember all those letters I wrote you while you were in WCW?" -- Stevie Richards helped Missy do the mail! She laughs when Stevie suggests they make out, until he says he'll set up a date with Raven, and she starts tonguing him in a really uncomfortable moment. Also, are we really supposed to think women are this gaga over Raven?
  10. Not as good as the Nitro match, but still fun. Savage does the worst job of hiding a blade I have ever seen. The dead crowd finally comes alive for the finish in a big way, and I thought with Flair in that the chance of Flair ever winning the title again was gone, and especially by going over Sting, Luger and Savage in one night (albeit in a weak way). And finally, Benoit is SEEN with the other Horsemen.
  11. Since this match is really three extended parts, I'll talk about each separately: Flair/Sting -- This is standard fare for these two, but they do both seem to have a little extra pep in their step, but they're rushing through their usual 15-20 minutes of stuff in about 10 minutes. Sting does a top rope superplex, which looks great. Nice tease spot when Luger starts to come in to break up the Flair/Sting pinfall. Flair/Luger -- Good to see these two lock up for the first time since Lex's return to WCW. Even this late, when neither guy is what he used to be, Flair/Luger is a better match than Flair/Sting, and seeing both matchups next to each other makes that point. It also exposes Flair's formula in a weird way, as he calls some of the same spots with Luger that he did with Sting a few minutes earlier. The biggest difference between this and 1988-1990 is that Luger just isn't as over, so the crowd doesn't pop for his big strength spots, which are set up nicely, but just don't have the heat they did in the past. Part of that is the role Luger is in. Part of it is the crap crowd. Part of it is that these two are older and not as hot as they were at one point. Flair working over Luger's knee is really good. I wish these two could have had a PPV match at some point in 1996. Flair trolling Sting repeatedly just to distract the ref long enough for him to low blow Luger was lots of fun. Warts and all, these two fit like a glove. Luger/Sting -- This was pretty good, but if I hadn't just seen their Starrcade '89 match, it may have seemed better. That was a pretty fast-paced match, and this was not. This also doesn't have the heat you'd expect for these two finally locking up. Flair doing his run-in at the end does show how even at this stage, he was on a different level than both of them. And I do like the screwy finish of this with Luger costing Sting and Flair sneaking in. Very interesting and worth watching, but not as good as I remembered.
  12. I don't think Vince counts as a manager, if only because he didn't accompany Corporation guys to ringside as a rule.
  13. Last few minutes, which sees Sting secure the win for WCW, giving them the World Cup. I really like the idea of this show, but the way that it was promoted was completely wrong.
  14. Really good match, but it's hurt because there's no heat. And fans who would boo Otani's highspots are just stupid. The announcers are hilarious, especially when Bobby asks Dusty what he would be thinking if he was Eddy, and he says that he's lost a lot of weight. Hot finish, but the rest of the match felt cold, even if it was well worked.
  15. Sandman puts a cigarette out on his hand. The Eliminators show up in one of these for the first time I think, and we get the HAPPY HARDCORE HOLIDAYS video with Foley at home clean shaven. 9/11 has Rey on his shoulders, and Sandman says he had no idea Konnan's name ended in a "g" after calling him Konnang repeatedly. Then we get Foley at the amusement park, which is even better than the holiday stuff. HARDCORE PARENTING, and even Colette makes an appearance!
  16. Purple and black? Come on, Ric, you being color coordinated is a staple of wrestling! We depend on it! Besides, it was Christmas, why not do red and green? These two work their asses off here and have a much better match than I expected they would. I like Flair taking it to the mat and doing the hammerlock pinning combo. He's also pretty aggressive with the punches and chops and the Jimmy Hart interference spots work well, and the post-match stuff with Sting and Luger was really fun and set up Starrcade really well.
  17. Pretty crazy match, especially for Christmas day, with the lucha guys working like they are in ECW. Psicosis is very much in trainwreck mode and not great worker mode, diving off the cage, taking hard chairshots and playing with fire. Hell of a brawl, and a match I didn't hate, but it's really just entertaining crap. I'm glad this stuff mostly stayed contained to AAA instead of infecting all of lucha libre.
  18. Yeah, and I think it got back to the WWF that he had put his name out there as being willing to jump ship, which also hurt him. That may not be right, that's just what I remember.
  19. Flair was on SUCH a roll on interviews at this point. He puts his history at Starrcade in perspective and explains how he's going to once again be The Man. Tons of fun. For all the talk about how Bischoff never let Flair be Flair, that's not entirely true, because since the Horsemen got back together, he's been completely in his element.
  20. TREMENDOUS highlight package of quite a few matches these two have had over the years.
  21. I wasn't digging Tsuchiya at all, but A for effort to Kudo. The outside interference spots really hurt this, despite there being some good stuff from the two principles.
  22. This mix of wrestlers produced a much better match than I thought they would. This isn't quite a Michinoku Pro match, but there's not much difference between the MPro and FMW guys. They find a happy medium and everyone stays in that groove. Not a great match, but a really good one, and one that overcame a potential styles clash really well. Taka/Hayabusa in a long singles match probably would have been a MOTYC in 1995 or 1996.
  23. Bradshaw was white, much bigger and a locker room enforcer. This isn't about saying WWE was right to feel the way they felt. It's more that if you put yourselves in their shoes, it makes sense. Besides, right or wrong, D-Lo wasn't going to be getting any big opportunities after the Droz incident.
