Buddy Landell is there by phone because he's out buying a ranch?? This is funny because he's making fun of the old people who are being foreclosed and the old woman outside pushing a mule, and he says they are going to have to work for them for six months for free, but this makes no sense at all.

At the time, these were maybe two of the three or four best wrestlers in CMLL, so expectations for a great match are high. This falls slightly short of that, but is still really good. I love the controversial finish. This lacks the cohesion of Atlantis/Charles or the crispness and focus of Dandy/Casas, but it's still a very good match.

We had this exact same conversation last year, and possibly the year before that. Gorilla was not critical to the boom. Hogan was. Vince was. To a lesser degree, people like Piper, Heenan and Savage were. It still would have happened without Gorilla. Dave has said he liked Gorilla personally, but thought he wasn't a good announcer and has explained why. Many times. People who don't want to believe it choose to ignore it. Tell me, what did Gorilla do backstage?

Fun match, but it's not a sleeper to me. Doing more than one off the top rope DQ in the same match is too much, and I think the match should have gone twice as long since it was elimination rules, since it felt a little rushed. Still, there are some really good moments. I'm guessing the Steiners made a stink about jobbing since Sting and Nikita both ate pinfalls, but they didn't. I liked Jake in WCW. I thought it was a good fit and he seemed like an important headliner. He also drew well on the only PPV he headlined. A shame it didn't last.

Quite the scene to see everyone decked out in tuxes at Center Stage. I am laughing at Will not editing the 11-year old Oklahoma girl singing the Star Spangled Banner. Steamboat wins the TV title in a solid match. This isn't one of their better matches together, but I always like Austin vs Steamboat.

I was surprised at how much I liked this. Is this a fantastic, earth shattering match? No. Is this on par with whatever typical WCW 10-minute matches were like in syndication during their peak periods? Yes, without a doubt. I think this was a good pick because criticisms of a uniform house style tend to fall by the wayside when you see some of the nice matwork on display. The layout of this and Masters/McIntyre have similarities in that they both target the knee of the babyface, but that's really where the comparisons end. It's not RINGS or UWFI, and it's not Regal's past matches with Benoit and Finlay. But it's as good as most TV title defenses from Regal in the mid 90s. Nice match.

I can only suspect the idea behind putting the belt on Flair was for him to drop it to Warrior before everything changed. Not a good match, and Savage definitely outworked Flair. Savage's leg selling is pretty much always great. Considering how disappointing this was, I can only imagine what the first version of this match looked like where Vince made them start all over.

Good to have a full-length match between these two since none are available from the USWA and they did spend a significant chunk of the year feuding. The show appears to be outdoors to a pretty small crowd in a semi-big venue to accommodate it. This gets going after a while, but considering the match was only slightly over 10 minutes and maybe 4-5 of those minutes were devoted to action, it was a little disappointing. I wish they'd had more time, because you have to love Gilbert using a fan's crutch as a weapon. Cool find though, and Gilbert gets some nice color.
