[1992-04-16-NJPW-Explosion Tour: Top of the Super Juniors] Wild Pegasus vs 2 Cold Scorpio
Another handheld match. This is a strong match. There are things about this that are better than SuperBrawl match, but I think I still like SuperBrawl better. But I think for the overall body of the match, this could be argued better. This is more traditional in terms of match build than Eddy/Casas, but it's also a better match. The finish here is weaker because it's not as well-timed and just happens as a rollup right in the middle of nearfall stretch. Again, I wish they could have had more time, but they did less than a year later.

[1992-04-16-NJPW-Explosion Tour: Top of the Super Juniors] Eddy Guerrero vs Negro Casas
This is a complete handheld version, not the clipped version that aired on TV. I love the opening minutes with Casas rolling out some of the matwork I remember him using in longer form in the Dandy match later on this set. Very matwork heavy, which is nice, because it's pretty lucha-influenced. The match is still very much a NJ juniors style match, but because of the background both guys have, they're able to make it unique. Casas ends up winning with a crucifix pin. This could have been way better with more time, but it's still good.

[1992-04-14-WWF-Munich, GER] Randy Savage vs Shawn Michaels
The first Coliseum Video match of the set. Savage is still selling the leg injury from Wrestlemania, so I already know this will be awesome. "A lot of people view London as a melting pot, but I was very surprised that the same was true about Germany." -- Sean Mooney WOW. Michaels really does feel like the new Flair. He's aggressive and does a great job working over Savage's knee. This is equivalent to Hokuto/Yamada from '93, where Hokuto sold injuries from her big show match in a smaller match. Savage was going over, but seemed to really be interested in putting over Shawn strong through the match. That continues after the match with Shawn and Sherri working over Savage's knee with a chair. There were a few things I didn't like -- namely Shawn doing a fake walkout spot mid-match when he's challenging for the big belt -- but overall, this was an excellent match. I like the more basic, aggressive Shawn from 1992-1993 much better than the more flashy, post-ladder match Shawn in hindsight.

[1992-04-13-WWF-London, ENG] Ric Flair vs Davey Boy Smith
Seeing Davey Boy get the superstar reaction in England is always awesome! This is a handheld where Davey Boy gets a huge upset, probably to help build Summerslam, where they may have already had ideas about what they were wanted to headline that show. Not really that great a match, but it does put over the big picture very well. Flair puts Davey Boy over pretty strongly. The moment where he turns the tide in his favor with a kick to the balls is great, and the heat is great when Flair is in control, with the audience rallying big for Davey's comeback. It's pretty standard fare, but the crowd and surprise finish make it memorable. I notice here that one thing Flair is maybe the best ever at is timing his kickouts to the very last second to get the big crowd reaction. He almost immediately rolls out of the ring so Davey Boy can have his moment.

Dave Meltzer stuff
In 1998 or 1999, Dave did a really funny history of the Undertaker and Kane, making fun of all the times the WWF broke the continuity in their story. Does anyone remember which issue it was in, or does anyone have it and would they possibly be willing to share it? Thanks.

[1992-04-11-SMW-TV] Heavenly Bodies vs Brad & Bart Batten
And finally, the Heavenly Bodies debut -- Tom Pritchard and Stan Lane! This was included as the payoff to the vignettes, not because of the match quality, but this is a fun match. The Battens are sort of a poor man's good tag team, in that they have some good spots that they execute somewhere in the range between awkward and decent. Semi-competitive extended squash to put over the Bodies in the first round of the tag tournament.

[1992-04-11-SMW-TV] Paul Orndorff vs Hector Guerrero
I can see how they can *argue* that Orndorff has beaten Hogan (even though he hasn't), but I'm not sure when he would have beaten Flair. Anyway, this is one of the better SMW TV matches I've seen, including all the '93 matches and whatever has aired of the '92 so far. I wish they could have had more time. Orndorff goes on a piledriver spree after the match as a string of lower-card guys run to the ring to try to calm him down to no avail, which is OUTSTANDING.

[1992-04-11-USWA-TV] Brian Christopher vs Tom Prichard
Short, but action-packed TV match sees Pritchard win the Southern title. Because the match was impromptu, Christopher protests the decision since there was no contract signed for the match. After whining enough, Christopher finally gets his way, then attacks Pritchard, and Eddie Marlin bumps for him to boot!

CM Punk: Greatest Promo Ever
I would argue results not really mattering consistently the way they did at one time is the major factor in PPV decline. It's really hard to sell a PPV on great matches.
-
CM Punk: Greatest Promo Ever
Of course he was part of the angle. Like Bix, I'm talking about the internal logic of the angle.
-
CM Punk: Greatest Promo Ever
He brought a videographer? People record things on smartphones. All the time. All WWE has to say is they have some interesting fan footage, err, footage from the WWE Universe, from this past week at Comic Con.

[1992-04-11-USWA-TV] Jerry Lawler & Jeff Jarrett and The Moondogs and Eric Embry
AGAIN, The Moondogs run in and attack Lawler and Jarrett when they're having a squash. This time, Eric Embry comes in with "a big ol' sack of flour" and runs them off. Embry again states Lawler and Jarrett need him as a partner. Jarrett and Lawler finally agree to team with him, under the condition that if Embry screws them over, he'll never step foot in Memphis again.

[1992-04-11-USWA-TV] Brian Christopher vs Tom Prichard
The match is quickly thrown out when The Moondogs run in and attack Pritchard with a chair. A little overboard with all the Moondogs run-ins, but at least they're doing it on TV and not at the arenas.

[1992-04-11-USWA-TV] Jerry Lawler & Jeff Jarrett and The Moondogs / Eric Embry and Jerry Lawler & Jeff Jarrett
Highlights of Jarrett/Lawler vs Moondogs 4/6 at Mid South Coliseum. Another wild match. They seem to be going in the heel versus heel direction with Embry and the Moondogs, or at least they're slowly turning him, but he says Lawler and Jarrett need him and he wants to team with him. Lawler and Jarrett are skeptical, saying they've done a fine job on their own. Embry asks how they can say that when the Moondogs are still here. He pushes over the announce table to make his point, but Lawler told him he's made his bed, now he has to lie in it.

The Moondogs attack Embry once again during an Embry squash.

[1992-04-05-WWF-Wrestlemania VIII] Ric Flair vs Randy Savage
Gorilla's SCREAMING at the beginning of the intros always makes me laugh. "THIS IS WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT." Can I just say how much I absolutely hated Mr. Perfect at this point, because he never took any bumps? Damn you, Lloyds of London. Never really cared for this match all that much. It makes no sense that all these anonymous suits would be surrounding Liz and yelling at her to go away while Perfect cheats liberally for Flair and they say nothing to him at all. Then, they hold Savage down and Flair starts beating him up?? But other than that, the post-match -- both the Liz stuff and Flair's tremendous interview back in the locker room -- are outstanding.

[1992-04-05-WWF-Wrestlemania VIII] Bret Hart vs Roddy Piper
Is there a better Piper singles match on tape than this? I can't think of one, although I suspect he has had better matches. Very good match. Well-scripted and Piper did jobs rarely enough that Bret going over clean was a big deal. The finish has been copied many times, but it's still a great finish.

[1992-04-04-WCW-Pro] Rick Rude & Steve Austin & Arn Anderson vs Barry Windham & Dustin Rhodes & Ricky Steamboat
Terrific match. Windham plays FIP. The crowd is hot for the Steamboat/Rude interplay. I don't think Rude and Windham would have made for a good feud as characters, but they work well together in the ring. Austin ends up getting the team DQd by bringing in a chair, then Steamboat cleans house with the chair.

[1992-04-04-SMW-TV] Interview: Jim Cornette / Interview: Ron Wright & Dirty White Boy
Again, Cornette is here to introduce his new tag team and they sneak into a hotel. I laugh when Cornette pulls out the key, remembering this was in the pre-card days for hotels. Again, he's unable to debut his team because women swarm them yet again. He says next week, he'll have his team here live. He even suggests bringing in the National Guard and putting seatbelts on the women sitting in the audience. Then, we get Ron Wright and DWB, who seems fine after the Moondogs attack earlier that morning in the USWA. They're putting the badmouth on Brian Lee, and Lee comes out to defend himself.

[1992-04-04-USWA-TV] Jerry Lawler & Jeff Jarrett and The Moondogs
Richard Lee interrupts a match to demand that Eddie Marlin come out right now. It takes a few minutes, but Lawler and Jarrett finally come out after Marlin mentions wanting them suspended from wrestling for the things they have done to him. Lawler and Jarrett won't have it and beat him up and strip him down to his underwear. New Moondogs finally come to his rescue as Dave Brown wonders how may dogs Lee has in the kennel.
