[1992-02-22-SMW-TV] Interview: Ivan Koloff, Vladimir Koloff & Jimmy Golden
I'm surprised Cornette would even try using a Nikita lookalike. The Fultons and Tim Horner quickly stop the interview and a brawl breaks out as the show goes off the air.

The Moondogs attack Jarrett in the studio, but Jarrett makes his own save by grabbing some furniture and holding them off.

[1992-02-22-AJPW-Excite Series] Doug Furnas & Dan Kroffat vs Toshiaki Kawada & Tsuyoshi Kikuchi
The Can-Ams just completely destroy Kawada and Kikuchi for a long time, and it's brutal. We're 12 minutes into the match before Kawada and Kikuchi get any momentum in their favor. The final stretch is heated as hell, and Kawada finally beats Kroffat with the stretch plum. Fun match! I don't think it compares to the Kobashi tag, but it's really good.

[1992-02-21-GWF] Eddie Gilbert vs Big Bad John
The Bonnie Blackstone insert promo is so funny to me, despite not really being funny. Sort of similar to Lawler vs monster, as BBJ takes a chairshot to the back and an unprotected chairshot, selling neither. Bruce Pritchard is at ringside managing BBJ. It's always been fascinating to me how he has come and gone so many times from Vince over the years, yet when he comes back, he always ends up back in the inner circle. I don't know if Gilbert is a babyface now, or if he's the de facto babyface. BBJ goes over clean, basically squashing Gilbert, but there's controversy in the finish, as Gilbert never submitted. Terry Garvin comes in post-match to stand up for Gilbert. Gilbert thanks Garvin for his help, but as the result of a pre-match promo, Gilbert has to kiss Pritchard's feet.

[1992-02-16-UWA] Silver King & El Texano & Gran Hamada vs Negro Casas & Dr Wagner Jr & Mike Lozansky
This is closer to Michinoku Pro than Hamada's UWF. Crazy fast pacing, great spots and action, effective comedy ... this has it all. You have to love the Casas/Wagner/Lozansky celebratory strut at the end of the second fall. Also, Negro Casas continues to be phenomenal, and I think it's a toss-up between him and Liger at this point for best in the world. That's an early claim, things can and will probably change as the year progresses. This is an interesting contrast to Salvaje/Sevilla, if only because while that's another good match, and Bestia Salvaje is an excellent wrestler, Casas is so far above him. Cowboys do some amazing high-flying spots -- some synchronized, some not. Never a dull moment, and lucha MOTY so far.

[1992-02-15-USWA-TV] The Moondogs vs Brian Collins & Ricky Hutchens
Before the match, we get a promo from the Moondogs in the locker room of Mid South Coliseum. Richard Lee cracks me up by doing the WWE writer promo. "Comment? You want a COMMENT?" There's focus on a wound on one of the Moondogs' heads. Had he used the word "skull", I would have asked when Brian Gewirtz worked Memphis. Anyway, the Moondogs are pissed and just destroy these guys. Blood and stiff chairshots and again, FMW fans should seriously check this stuff out.

[1992-02-15-WWF-Superstars] Update: Double Main Event for Wrestlemania VIII
Wrestlemania VIII now has a DOUBLE MAIN EVENT, when the concept was still novel. Flair and Savage do a pair of promos about the change in the WM main event. Flair hints that he knows something Savage doesn't know. Both are excellent, especially Savage. Then, we get Sid and Hogan doing a pair of promos. Sid is much better as a heel of course. I remember reading a local newspaper article about Sid at the time that shocked me -- saying that Downtown Bruno would soon be his manager, which turned out to be true, and also saying that Hulk Hogan would be retiring soon, before they started hinting this would be Hogan's last match in the buildup. Anyway, Hogan accuses Sid of trying to MURDER Beefcake by threatening to punch him -- saying repeatedly he was not just trying to end his career, but his life. I'm really looking forward to tracking the WWF's slow downfall throughout the year -- not because it excites me or anything, but just because I think it's interesting that they fell so fast.

[1992-02-14-GWF] Jerry Lynn vs Barry Horowitz
There appears to be some weigh-in controversy before the match, with the referee not believing Horowitz's weight to be legit. Referee James Beard has to leave the room for something, and Gilbert switches out the scales to give Horowitz a false low weight. No explained presence of the camera! Eddie Gilbert was truly ahead of his time and knew where wrestling was going. Nice match from a time when Jerry Lynn was tolerable and it's great to see Horowitz work a real, actual competitive match. Lynn ends up getting the win despite using a chain as a weapon. Something tells me Gilbert won't be happy.

[1992-02-14-CMLL] Bestia Salvaje vs Huracan Sevilla (Hair vs Hair)
The first two falls end really quickly, with Sevilla taking fall #1 and Salvaje taking fall #2. The third fall is better, with Salvaje being busted open and both of them hitting a few nice dives, but it doesn't pick up in a big way until the final 10 minutes or so when the nice nearfalls kick in and we get some really balls out highspots. Salvaje finally takes the match and Sevilla loses his hair. Very good match once it got going, but takes too long to get going, and the first two falls were pretty bland and short. Fun seeing Norman Smiley as a second.

2002 Recommendations
Thanks to all for recommendations. I think I'm good for WWE and the Big 3 companies in Japan, but I have really not seen any recommendations for the following: * Michinoku Pro * Osaka Pro * ARSION * AJW * Any U.S. indies that are not ROH or IWA Mid South * OVW We want to get a really good feel for what's going on in every wrestling promotion that year, so even if a group is disappointing, but has one solid match, we can include that match just to show that we didn't forget they existed. I'd like for each of the above groups to have at least one match represented at a minimum. Also, I have yet to receive any lucha recommendations.

[1992-02-10-NJPW-Fighting Spirit] Keiji Muto & Hiroshi Hase vs Scott Norton & Brad Armstrong
I was hoping Armstrong would get to show more than he did here. Maybe that's a good thing since the other three are regulars, but it seems like a missed opportunity. He did sell well and take a hell of a beating, to a point where he starts looking pretty sympathetic after a while. And still, the story of the match was executed really well. I'm impressed that they built big to a Norton hot tag, and Norton does an AWESOME double vertical suplex on both guys. The comeback at the end is a lot of fun and more than many big Japan matches, both teams really worked as a team in the final stretch. I enjoyed this, but was hoping Armstrong would get to show all this offense we didn't get to see from him in the U.S. but I'll take what I got and be happy.

[1992-02-10-NJPW-Fighting Spirit] Jushin Liger vs Pegasus Kid
Flashier than the Honaga match. Not sure which is better, as both are pretty fucking great. This is more heated and Benoit has more offense than Honaga, but that match has a charm in its simplicity that this one doesn't quite have. The positives and negatives probably cancel each other out either way, and this is another awesome match for Liger within a two-day period.
