[1993-10-30-WCW-Saturday Night] Ric Flair vs Sid Vicious
No heat. This has its moments and isn't terribly far behind Bret and Shawn's best matches with Sid. It's behind, but it's not a ridiculous gap. Flair, perhaps surprisingly, is much better at getting himself over as an aggressor than Shawn. This isn't Flair vs Luger, Nikita or Sting ... it's a completely different layout than most of the best Flair vs muscleman matches. I guess the closest comparison is Flair/Luger at Bash '88, with spots like the bear hug into the pinfall. When Flair is on offense, the heat slightly picks up, but when he's selling for Sid, the crowd is dead. This is presented as a match where the winner would get a shot at Vader at the Clash, but I think that's a retroactive decision IIRC, since the stabbing incident had already happened when this match aired. Flair wins by DQ after Col. Parker interference. This and the Sting match at Havoc seemed to be paving the way for a Sid turn. Interesting match for Flair vs monster. When you watch Flair vs Giant, you see how much he slipped in those few years.

1999 Recommendations
Use this thread to post recommendations for the yearbook. I don't want to put requirements on making recommendations necessarily, but I will kindly ask a favor -- if you recommend something, if you could, maybe just include a brief reason that you're recommending it. It doesn't have to be elaborate, but just something for us to see why it should go on. If you make recommendations that pique my curiosity, I will do my part to ask more follow-up questions to make sure I have a good understanding of why it was recommended. In addition, I will use this thread to list matches I come across when looking through various lists that look interesting on paper to ask if anyone has seen them. Thanks!

Tony Schiavone and early 90s WCW announcing
I liked Jesse under Watts, probably because Watts was always on him to stop talking about side topics and stay focused on calling the match. But Jesse in '93 is the opposite of on fire. He talks politics too much and his obsession with Texicans is weird.

[1993-10-30-NWA-Bensalem Bash] Terry Funk vs Ted DiBiase
DiBiase's last match ever. It's funny how over the 1-2-3 Kid was at this point, as DiBiase is still getting the chants months later at an indy show. DiBiase didn't have a particularly strong 1993, and this is continuation of that. Funk looks good though, and this is still worth watching for historic value.

[1993-10-30-SMW-TV] Chris Candido and Bobby Blaze
Candido said he has beaten every star in wrestling -- Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, Jushin Liger and JR Benson! Candido is a really terrific promo. He's prepared to throw the U.S junior heavyweight title into a river, but Bobby Blaze shows up to stop him. Candido ends up pushing him into the river and heading for the hills!

[1993-10-30-USWA-TV] Interview: Jeff Jarrett & Brian Christopher
I don't really have much comment about this, but Jarrett and Christopher seem to be paired as a bit of an odd couple, as Christopher is still acting heelish but is playing it for cheers.

[1993-10-30-WWF-Superstars] Tatanka vs Ludvig Borga
Joined in progress. Borga ends Tatanka's winning streak after a few minutes of shockingly decent action. Yokozuna comes down to add to the carnage, doing a Bansai drop on Tatanka's ribs. Meanwhile, Luger is battling the Quebecers backstage by himself and tries to save and after a few minutes, finally does.

[1993-10-29-AAA-Sin Limite] El Hijo del Santo vs Heavy Metal
I think one reason this time period is remembered fondly for AAA is that the wrestling style is more in tune with the rest of the world than is typical for lucha. There are sparks of All Japan and New Japan matches mixed in. I don't want to call it influence as much as continuity. The matwork, as with all the Santo/Metal matches, is excellent. But this is weirdly laid out, in the sense that neither guy has really made much of a dent even halfway through the third fall, as they're still having standoffs. I also thought Barr throwing his drink on Metal by accident was weird because it was a major momentum shifter. It was a drink. This is good, but I think their first match of the year was their best. The matwork is tremendous though, and this match mostly deserves the good rep it has.

CM Punk: Greatest Promo Ever
This honestly always kept me from really being a huge Rock fan. Lots of entertaining talk, not much talk to hype something and get me excited about seeing it.

Tony Schiavone and early 90s WCW announcing
Spoke in generalities too much, but was sometimes good. Most of his comments he just recycled in different order for different matches. I can't think of a single time he actually contributed to the sense of history in a match though, outside of maybe running down Flair's previous Starrcade victories at Starrcade '93.

Best Black Wrestler ever
Jerry, when you get to Terry Taylor/Chris Adams on the Watts set, come back and post. Yes, it's a backdrop to set up a Taylor heel turn, but both matches are excellent and are mostly wrestled clean. I'd like to hear what you think. I can also think of other great matches that have been face vs face, especially Rock/Jericho at No Mercy.
