  1. The Heavenly Bodies and the Bruise Brothers have finally parted ways and are brawling all over the building and into the parking lot! Pretty wild.
  2. Finally! This is their first singles match after Kawada switched allegiances. The chop battle in the middle is spectacular, in the days when Kobashi could do other stuff. I marked for Kobashi blocking a Kawada kick by slapping him silly, then DDTing him. Great match between two guys who don't like each other very much and who are jockeying for position just beneath Misawa. The sleeper drama is excellent, especially when Kawada tries the Bret Hart counter and Kobashi just cinches in the move even more. Kawada's selling is also off the charts, especially the glassy-eyed selling of the first headdrop. The repeated return to the sleeper is very much like Benoit/Eddy from the BOSJ in '96. I love the stretch plum transition to the pinfall too! I've always heard more talk about the 4/14 match, but this is the far superior match of the two, and it's available in full to boot! For a semi-lost in the shuffle great match, this is better than at least some of the more acclaimed Flair/Steamboat matches.
  3. I love that these RINGS matches have overdubbed generic 80s dance pop as the entrance music. That out of the way ... Either something just clicked with the RINGS style, or these matches are seriously on a different level from the other stuff from '96 and the other '93 from this set. Either way, this is another tremendous match. Kopylev's inverted figure four, whatever it is, is awesome and Zouev later catches Kopylev in the face with a kick that almost KO's him, with Kopylev kinda wobbling around for a moment afterward. Great!
  4. I think this is one of my favorite RINGS matches factoring in everything from '93 and '96. Han is a MACHINE in this match, and Naruse's selling is incredible. I have liked other Han matches, but to be honest, this is the first time everything about the RINGS style and Han's matwork has really clicked for me in a meaningful way. Naruse's selling seems to be the difference maker, hobbling to get back to a standing position just before meeting his demise. This is a match that should be on any RINGS primer. Superb.
  5. I'm surprised to see all the Stan Lane hate, considering all the well-regarded matches he's been part of and heavy representation he's had on every 80s set where he worked in the promotion. For a long time, people loved the Eaton/Lane team to a point where they sold the Eaton/Condrey team short. Now, it looks like the opposite extreme may be happening.
  6. Not sure what I'm missing. Sal Bellomo plays with a bunch of kids in a park while "Tears In Heaven" plays.
  7. I always felt like this was a really Memphis segment. If you look at how this is laid out, it's not your typical WWF turn at all. Crush's promo with the long explanation of his new philosophy. This is one of the better Savage moments too. He looks pretty gross with the lacerated tongue. Yoko's involvement giving the bansai drops just takes this to another level. Savage was probably thrilled to finally have something to do after being at the booth all year. This is one of my favorite WWF angles ever, and easily my favorite one of 1993.
  8. Human cage is a fancy term for lumberjack, but I like the term. Vader and Steamboat have a really good dynamic working with each other, very similar to Vader and Sting. Steamboat doesn't have the offense Sting has at this point, but is probably even better at selling. Very good match.
  9. I guess I don't understand the difference between a slap and a palm strike.
  10. Kind of an autobot promo. Flair and Rude didn't have the chemistry.
  11. Mr. Monopoly, who wants to eliminate all competition, is actually a pretty good gimmick idea.
  12. Highlights. Much of this is centered around the Steiners having a dog with them and teasing the dog going after Cornette or the Bodies. Good action. I always love Del Ray's floatover DDT. Because it's SMW, of course there's a ref bump and a DQ when both teams start using a tennis racket as a weapon. Cornette comes in and throws powder in Scott's face. I know it's his territory and all, but wow did Cornette push himself hard.
  13. We start with Sherri on the mic to Tammy: "Let me tell you something, you little bitch!" The match is great for Tammy trying to interfere then get away from Sherri quickly. Tammy does a quick trip of Smothers, so Sherri responds by doing a quick trip of Lee. Sherri finally gets her hands on the little bitch and Lee manages to get a cheap win, after which Sherri gets in a few good shots on him too. Sherri was great!
  14. Pretty balls out for such a short throwaway TV match, with Kid doing a powerbomb on Tanaka off the apron to the arena floor being the highlight of a series of daredevil spots.
  15. Yokozuna Godzilla commercial. I have no recollection of this.
  16. The build to Survivor Series is starting! First match announced.
  17. These are the right guys to deliver a strong juniors vs heavies match, especially because Hash and Chono actually work with them and sell for them. If anything, I sometimes think Liger holds back against heavies more than I wish he would. He gives quite a bit of offense up when working larger guys. But at the same time, it always works, he ends up somewhat sympathetic and it fits the match dynamic, so who am I to argue? This really feels like the last 10 minutes of a really hot final stretch even though it's a full length tag. The finish was a HUGE shock, with Liger catching Chono in a crucifix for the win while Hash's back is turned, and then doing the most obnoxious celebration of all time! Kind of craptastic to get the pin with no build to it at all, but Liger's post-match celebration is hilarious and makes it all worthwhile.
  18. Not the Tommy Dreamer we all know, but he is a pruh-fession-uh wrest-luh.
  19. Another wild early ECW brawl. A few minutes in, I realize I have never seen JT Smith hit a single offensive move in a match. He is always taking a beating. Paul E. talking about how Muraco always picks one body part and goes after it after he crotches Funk on the ringpost is funny.
  20. Martel gave Razor exactly the match he needed to make the title win a big moment, and they really did a good job building Razor up throughout the year. And he really improved quite a bit as the year progressed too.
  21. Every time Tenryu and Fujinami cross paths, it seems like Fujinami ends up bleeding a gusher. This was no exception. Another good match in the clear 1993 Feud of the Year. I like how over time, Tenryu's list of standard opponents grew so they could get as many people opposite him as possible.
  22. Rude is interviewed by Tony Schiavone at home. Rude vents about WCW no longer recognizing the title he wears as soon as he wins it. Rude says as far as he's concerned, he beat Ric Flair, his belt says World Heavyweight Wrestling Champion, he's the champ. He also says WCW has had it in for him since he came in and took out Sting -- the biggest star -- right away. Heels who can justify their point of view are missed.
  23. MATT HARDY makes a cameo, looking roided out of his mind, wearing sunglasses and doing a funny promo.
  24. Tammy, like Hillary Clinton, strongly believes in charity work so she plans on taking a typical woman from this area and transferring her into "an acceptable human being". Ha! Tammy is awesome! "How long have you been ... like this?" Tammy points out that basic items like deodorant and perfume are available in stores, but can't be purchased with food stamps. I look forward to more of these educational announcements!
