Okay, if they can stick to this, it will probably be the biggest money match of all time. Hopefully, Cena does no jobs at all for the next year. There are actually quite a few ways they could go with this. -
I expected Rock's music to start right before the bell rang and for him to come down and join JR and King for commentary and end up taking lots of bumps off of Miz setting Rock and Cena up to crash into each other quite a bit and for a ref bump to lead to lots of Rock interaction with both guys. Miz winning at the end didn't surprise me since there's no point in going back to Cena this soon, but Rock not being involved throughout the match did. I thought we'd get Attitude era booking, but no dice.

Wright was always pretty good, and improved drastically in 1997 after turning heel. The match with Ultimo at Fall Brawl '97 is interesting for Wright outworking Ultimo.

I understand that, but it's odd to me that they wouldn't get in a brawl of some type or at least have words. Also, how does Rock have the authority to restart matches? (I'm asking these questions more because I didn't see the show and can't really follow how things happened from any recaps I've read than I am because I'm complaining about what they did.)

So after building the show around a Rock/Cena confrontation, they didn't even do one? Did I read that right?

I'll have a lot to say about this angle as the yearbook progresses, but I would have to say this is probably the moment people remember most in the WWF in 1993. Great angle, executed really well.

The production is just so awful. Stuff like this where everyone has so many lines that are being used to set up a match really shouldn't have crowd noise piped in to drown the wrestlers out, and there's so much of everyone talking over everyone else that some of the good lines get lost. Also gotta love WCW's camera angles, panning out to show the outer edges of the set and zooming in on the other cameramen.

Last few minutes. Rude must be hurt, as he's taking some awkward bumps, falling face first on spots that are normally flat back bumps. Sloppy action and a botched finish, but this explains the U.S. title being held up, as there's a controversial finish.

Tremendous matwork with some counters that should be stolen and used in U.S. indy wrestling today. Santo climbing the ropes with his hands to turn a Boston crab into a flying headscissors is outstanding, and he also does a figure four reversal that would have played very well in Flair matches. Metal goes over in the first fall and third fall to win this one, as Fuerza Guerrera, who is an awesome second, interferes just slight out of the ref's view while Eddy Guerrero, Santo's second, protests. I love lucha title matches!

IIRC, Inoki left and Tiger Mask drew big in his absence, and there was a power struggle when Inoki returned.

Maybe this is where Kobashi realized that years later when his body breaks down, he can do the chop battles and little else and still get a nice crowd response. He and Kawada bring the amped up aggression toward each other, perhaps because Kobashi takes exception to Kawada's alliance switching. They are the highlight of this match. Kawada slugging him hard with closed fist to stop the chopping is awesome, and later, he gives Kobashi the most brutal brainbuster I've ever seen. I'm guessing this was Kawada and Taue's first noteworthy match as a team. Taue and Kikuchi seem to be kind of an afterthought, even though Taue pinning Kikuchi is the finish. This isn't a great match, but it's a good one. Nice match to give context to some other stuff on the yearbook.

God Bless Ole Anderson, curmudgeonly, stuck-in-the-past bastard. Stars from the NWA and AWA will be at the Omni for Slamboree? He hints at a Four Horsemen reunion at Slamboree. Arn does a promo about facing Windham at Slamboree and Barry Windham calls in, saying he's not coming on Flair for the Gold, despite being the scheduled guest. This is so overdone and Flair looks like a clown. He needed something to do in a big way.

Jim Cornette does an amazing promo, one of his best ever, furious and breaking a sweat, talking trash about Bob Armstrong and how he's sick of the Armstrong bias. He mentions that Scott Armstrong is Dixie Dynamite and has to wear a mask on his face out of shame. Dixie answers by unmasking and saying he is Scott Armstrong and that he has no shame, but that he wore the mask so idiots like Cornette wouldn't put out accusations of favoritism. Bob Armstrong comes out and says to leave family out of this and if Cornette has something to say, he should just say it. Cornette calls him the lowest form of human life he has ever encountered who has been trying to screw him since Day 1. He says he's like a police officer hiding behind his badge hiding behind the tie, because no one can hit him. Bob PULLS THE CLIP-ON OFF and says there's no tie now. Cornette crosses a line by calling Brian Armstrong a deserter during the Gulf War and things get heated. Cornette puts his hands on Bob and Bob pops him. This is tremendous!

You see a camera in the woods and hear screaming. Finally, you see Kevin Sullivan tied in a Jesus-like position to two trees talking about Rage in the Cage. This is awesome in that it's a 70s style madman promo, but it's also really focused on hyping the upcoming cage match and explaining the storyline. Sullivan was a great talker.

Barring something popping up and surprising me, this has got to be the best Blonds match there is, and probably also the best U.S. tag match of 1993. Austin and Pillman were just really gelling as a team by this point and this is a great match where everything just really falls into place nicely. Really a lost classic that's as good as anything to come out of the U.S. all year. Pillman's foreign object hiding in the first couple of minutes is outstanding, and the match is laid out really well, with three strong builds to a hot tag taking place in 20 minutes. Exciting and really heated too.
