More fast and furious than the first minis match. Great action!

[1993-04-30-AAA-Triplemania] Konnan vs Cien Caras (Loser Must Retire)
Yes, the match sucks, but the surrounding hoopla is so ridiculously over the top that I really don't care. Yes, Jake Roberts beats up Mascarita Sagrada while wearing a stonewash denim jacket from Hard Rock Cafe. Yes, they play "Danny Boy" after Konnan loses the match (actually not, but it sounds close enough to "Danny Boy" that I'll just ask you to work with me). And it does set up a big triangle match later on the set. So it's here and it should be here.

Real songs shouldn't count.

[1993-04-18-JWP] Bull Nakano vs Devil Masami
This is really an interesting match, because it's hard to criticize something that well-worked with all these veteran touches that are so, so vacant in wrestling so, so much of the time, even among great workers. But at the same time, it's missing something I can't put my finger on. I'm really interested in reading more opinions on this because I'm conflicted. I would have raved about this on the 1996 yearbook, and here, it feels lacking. Hard to explain.

True Story of Wrestlemania DVD
I'm skeptical on that, because I've always heard that the company wanted to get the title back to Hogan because the Warrior experiment didn't work.
-
WCW ongoing thread
Nash started booking around the time of Hogan's worked retirement, I want to say maybe the week before World War 3 in '98.

I know he did in '99 for a brief spell when it became painfully obvious Nash needed help.

Dave Meltzer stuff
For all the criticism of TNA's week-to-week booking and being overly focused on ratings, Dave and Bryan seem to be doing the exact same thing with Miz's push.

The Undertaker's Streak vs. HHH's power
If that is true, their match was obviously elevated over two World titles and puts the "Royal Rumble winner main events WrestleMania!" to bed. Eh, almost every show has more than one "main event" these days, which is annoying. Main eventing Wrestlemania doesn't mean what it used to, because some years there are 4-5 "main events".

The Undertaker's Streak vs. HHH's power
I haven't been paying attention at all. Is HHH still putting up his career? I haven't seen talk of it.

WCW ongoing thread
Sullivan had been booking for about three years straight at this point without a break. It was time to put someone else in that role for a couple of years. I think he was just burned out. Booking WCW at this time was an unenviable task, despite having a tremendous roster with endless possibilities.

It was in the WON a while back that they haven't done a reality show because they think the problems a lot of vets have would hurt their public image.

[1993-04-26-WWF-Raw] Interview: Shawn Michaels
Shawn does an awesome promo that really gets the Manhattan crowd very upset and chanting obscenities at him. 1993 may have been his best year, because he wrestled more as a traditional heel and was focused on getting heat and having good matches without most of the distractions he'd later have. Shawn has words for Mr. Perfect, who comes out while Shawn taunts him while he's being held back by everyone. Great stuff.

[1993-04-26-WWF-Raw] Smoking Gunns vignette
The Smoking Gunns are riding horses and show up to say they will be coming to the WWF soon. Funny in how cheesy it is.

[1993-04-24-WWF-Barcelona, ESP] Bret Hart vs Bam Bam Bigelow
Good match, but I'm not sure why Bret considers it one of his best, as it's basically Bret getting beat up the whole time then mounting a brief comeback and getting the pin at the end.

[1993-04-24-WCW-Saturday Night] Vader vs Cactus Jack
Even before the angle, this was a terrific, super-stiff match with both guys taking lots of big bumps. Vader powerbombs Cactus on the concrete and wins by countout. After the commercial, Cactus is having a neckbrace put on and is stretchered out. At this point, this was the best WCW angle in a very long time. Hmmm, this seems like a money angle where WCW will promote Cactus' comeback hard all year. No way they can mess this one up.

[1993-04-24-WCW-Saturday Night] Interview: Cactus Jack
Cactus comes out all bandaged up from the match last week. For the first time ever, he mentions his wife and son, who begged him not to step in the ring against Vader again. But he says it's out of his hands, he has to get back in the ring with him. He dares Vader to put him out, and if he does, he earns his respect.

[1993-04-24-SMW-TV] Interview: Tammy Fytch
Tammy debuts! She says she is of the well-connected Fytch family of New England. She announces that she has filed a sexual discrimination lawsuit against SMW for not employing any female wrestlers, managers, promoters or announcers. She attends Wellesley College, just like her idol -- Hillary Clinton! She looks nervous and keeps looking at the wrong camera, but she was given good lines that she delivered relatively well. Everyone has to start somewhere.

[1993-04-24-WWF-Superstars] Update: Lex Luger and his steel forearm!
Footage is shown of Luger knocking Bret Hart out at the Wrestlemania brunch. Jack Tunney's office did an investigation into the forearm and learned that he had a steel plate implanted after a motorcycle accident, and because it's part of his anatomy, they are powerless to do anything about it. Luger does a quick promo laughing about it and saying maybe it isn't fair, but life isn't fair.

[1993-04-24-RINGS] Volk Han vs Mitsuya Nagai
Nice match with some good exchanges. Really fun to watch all of Han's matwork, but it works better as an exhibition than a match.

[1993-04-24-AJW] Manami Toyota & Yumiko Hotta vs Aja Kong & Kyoko Inoue
This is the Toyota show. She puts on a tremendous performance. I'm really impressed with her in '93, far more than '96. You guys have me overly focused on Hotta now, so I paid close attention to her in this match. And surely enough, she took like two bumps and ended up on the upper hand of each exchange she was part of. Aja and Kyoko are game opponents, but Toyota is the one who makes this match. She gets isolated and destroyed for most of it, gets dragged all over the arena and beaten up by Kong, just barely beating the count back in, and then finally mounts a comeback with some awesome stuff. Great match, ending with Toyota pinning Inoue.

[1993-04-19-WWF-Raw] Interview: Bret Hart
Bret says he has come back from big losses before, and he'll do it again now. He says he's made a hit list and the first guy on his list is Lex Luger, and that it's his first step on his way back to the WWF title.
