  1. Set to Kid Rock's "Only God Knows Why". This big match that's been hyped up so much sure doesn't look like anything special from the clips.
  2. I don't like Jim Cornette's announcing, and I'm having a hard time getting past it. He's not doing anything wrong. I just don't like it. Finish of the match has a catfight.
  3. JIP. I like Honma quite a bit more than Yamakawa, but this is another match wrestled in the same vein. I know this style didn't sustain, which doesn't surprise me, as it wasn't really sustainable. Shadow WX continues to impress me inasmuch as a ring general in a death match can impress.
  4. Corino has his new look and is ready to storm into a Limp Bizkit concert. He ends up on stage arguing with Fred Durst. A female fan moons him. Corino continues the promo on Fred for a while until Balls Mahoney, Axl Rotten and New Jack beat him up on stage. An "EC-DUB!" chant breaks out at the show.
  5. Jerry Lynn comes to the creative department. Cyrus says the boys can't book their own angles. I think this works when ECW is cult wrestling, but when they are trying to expand, crap like that holds them back.
  6. Sandman is an abusive drunk, just like Raven's father. Raven keeps repeating the line over and over.
  7. I need to do a side-by-side comparison of this and the '98 final. Both are shorter and somewhat unheralded tag league finals that don't touch the very best but are still pretty great on their own. Hansen having his last great match is a lot like Cher and her farewell tours, and one showing up this late shows that he could still rise to the occasion as late as 1999.
  8. Last few minutes. Mankind is at ringside. The Rock gets the win but Snow doesn't accept that result, attacking Rock after the bell. The NAO hit the ring to join in on the attack until Mankind comes to the ring with a chair. DX bails but Snow doesn't.
  9. Stephanie and Test see each other for the first time since everything played out. Test just says he doesn't know what to feel anymore and storms out, despite Stephanie's pleas.
  10. Mankind comes out to announce that he's a #1 New York Times bestseller. He thanks wrestling fans since newspapers and book critics can't reduce themselves to review a book by a pro wrestler. It's hard for him to enjoy that too much though, because The Rock and Al Snow have been at each other's throats and they are his two best friends. Jericho interrupts to tell Mick the only reason anyone bought his book was because they hoped he would die at the end of it. They end up making a match.
  11. Mankind tries to warn The Rock that Al Snow is unhinged and while he's doing so, Snow attacks Rock from behind.
  12. X-Pac and the Outlaws hype their matches at Armageddon before bringing out the newest McMahon. DX has purchased gifts for the family, including a McMahon family picture with HHH added in and some skimpy red lingerie. Finally, Road Dogg gives the big one - a front-row ticket for Stephanie at Armageddon to watch HHH destroy Vince.
  13. Snow is watching Rock give him the People's Elbow on repeat and getting angrier and angrier the more he watches.
  14. Stephanie is in the ring begging for her family to come out. Vince and Shane look ready to take a baseball bat to DX, but Earl Hebner interrupts them to let them know Stephanie is waiting for her in the ring. She says she should have known better and it's her fault, but the crowd was booing her anyway. There are faint chants of "Slut!". I don't get that. Did she ask to be drugged? She will never forgive HHH for wrecking her life and promises him he will pay. Stephanie calls Vince and Shane off from destroying HHH, saying she got herself into this and she'll get herself out of it. Shane promises but Vince is pretty hesitant until Shane pressures him into saying it.
  15. Coca-Cola and AT&T have pulled ads on Smackdown because of the content, based on pressure from the PTC. They're still feeling the effects of this one today.

  17. Luger tries to throw Liz in the mud and she slaps him. Finally, Luger tosses her in. She's furious. Luger ends up pushed in the mud from behind by Sting. I love Lex Luger The Bumbling Idiot so much!
  18. Chavo interviews Dr. Death and Oklahoma. Doc is eating BBQ sauce the whole time while Oklahoma does another Jim Ross parody. Then Ryan Shamrock, who is now in WCW, gets candy delivered from The Maestro. Finally, Chavo interviews Hall and Nash. Hall says the TV title is useless and the Outsiders throw the TV title in the trash. And that's the end of that. Then Piper continues ranting to no one in particular while Curt Hennig and Creative Control escort him somewhere. Steve Williams and Oklahoma talk Sooners football. The Mamalukes and Gene Okerlund hang out in a strip club. Russo tells Piper he'll be refereeing mud wrestling between women later in the night. The Nitro Girls insult each other in catering and end up throwing food all over each other. Leilani Kai seems amused by all of this. Security pulls them apart. In the middle of all this, Kai ends up choking and Juventud tries to save her life. Symphony gets another gift. Lex Luger has a brilliant idea and requests to see Russo, as it's about ratings. Chavo interviews Tygress Nitro, who ends up in a fight with Spice Nitro. Evan Karagias and Madusa make out in a dark room on the couch. Luger volunteers Russo to Liz for the scheduled mud wrestling match. We eventually learn that the gifts to Symphony were a trap from David Flair, who hid The Maestro inside his own piano. Hall and Nash want a cage match with Goldberg and Sid. The Mamalukes make an Italian dinner for their dates. Creative Control come back covered in mud. Arn Anderson confronts Russo because he's been fired and has no idea why. Stacy Keibler, named Skye Nitro at this point, ends up in a catfight with Chae Nitro. Chavo interviews a mud-covered Piper. Piper puts Chavo in his place for not fighting the Powers That Be like his father, uncles and grandfather would have. Hall and Nash walk by and smirk at Piper and muddy Piper ends up in a brawl with both before getting pulled away by security. Russo is upset that Luger let him down, but Luger promises before the night is over, Liz will be covered in mud because *he* will have a match against her. The Mamalukes serve dinner to their dates. The dates end up using neckties to tie them to the bed. It was a setup for the Disco Inferno and Lash Leroux to show up and pour spaghetti and meatballs all over them. All this in one show.
  19. They have Liger for a week and this is what they do with him. Infamous match where Juventud breaks a tequila bottle over Liger's head to win the IWGP title, destroying New Japan's relationship with WCW. Meanwhile, Brad Armstrong does a terrible stoner libertarian parody on commentary. No heat for this, which is sad.
  20. Russo is upset that he's been forced to put some Japanese clown named Jushin Liger on his show tonight because of a prior commitment. He tells Juventud if he can beat him and take the IWGP Jr. title, he will fix all of his visa problems. Fun seeing Juventud mark out for Liger. Next up, Luger is in a suit and tells Liz he's going to sue her for breaching her contract with him. Then Piper talks to himself while the "Powers To Be" want him to wait in the office. He is such an idiot. Then Ronda Singh and Leilani Kai (!!) go through possible outfits that Singh can wear in the ring.
  21. Toll of the bell for Hiro Matsuda, the type of guy that WWE wouldn't pay tribute since he's not part of their history.
  22. Here we go - the segment that made HHH for good as a top guy. This is one of the most iconic angles of the era, which makes it baffling that it's not on the Network. Test is all sweaty since they had him work a match earlier in the evening for some reason. HHH interrupts despite being warned by Vince that he would be fired if he did. HHH said he really felt everyone in the ring should watch the video though. We see HHH in a convertible talking to someone unidentified while pulling up to a drive-thru wedding. The camera pans to an unconscious Stephanie McMahon in the passenger seat and he gets through vows by blocking the view of Stephanie and speaking with a high pitch. It looks like the stripper was an HHH lackey who helped roofie Stephanie. The moment when HHH says to the camera, "Get a nice shot of the brand new Mr. and Mrs. Hunter Hearst Helmsley" is the exact moment he became the guy. Back in the building, HHH calls Vince "dad" and suggests that he and Stephanie have already consummated the marriage. Yes, there are obvious logical plotholes here, but forget that - this WORKED! I know people who watched then who still talk about it. An all-time classic angle.
  23. Footage from Stephanie's bachelorette party the night before. I wonder if those were Stephanie's real friends. Moolah and Mae are there too!
  24. Snow tells Mankind he hates Rock and wants to make him stand on the apron during their tag team. Mick warns him not to do that.
