[1999-11-22-WWF-Raw] The Rock, Mick Foley and Al Snow
The Rock and Mankind cross paths for the first time since Mick blew up on him. I LOVE that they waited a month to follow that up. Rock is pissed at Mankind and doesn't have much to say except that he did not throw Mankind's book in the trash. Mick is THRILLED that Rock read the book, as Rock says in Chapter 37, *he* was the one carrying Mick's ass at the Royal Rumble. Al Snow says something about The Rock under his breath and Rock berates him for it.

[1999-11-22-WWF-Raw] Vince McMahon arrested
Vince goes on a tear and destroys DX's limo by driving into it and running them over multiple times. Then he gets out and takes a baseball bat to every window. DX manages to sneak out of the limo. Later he goes to their locker room and tries to break the door open with a baseball bat while Shane and the Stooges try to calm him down and fail. Then cops show up and arrest Vince. Amidst all the commotion, HHH attacks a handcuffed Vince McMahon. This stuff is great, but it also feels like Vince is overly involved, and they should have been building up another top babyface aside from just Rock so Vince wouldn't have to take on the role. Even with that, they have succeeded in making Vince-HHH a hot issue.

[1999-11-21-WCW-Mayhem] Bret Hart vs Chris Benoit
Last few minutes. Only Russo could headline a PPV World Title tournament final in Toronto with Bret Hart vs Chris Benoit and make it pretty heatless and unmemorable. Bret wins the title and even celebrates with his family while fireworks go off, but the whole thing rings hollow as part of a booking philosophy that doesn't emphasize titles or good wrestling.

[1999-11-20-OVW-TV] Flash Flanagan and Bruce Pritchard / Flash Flanagan vs Tracy Smothers / Tracy Smothers promo
Flash Flanagan confronts Bruce Pritchard about why he hasn't been signed about the WWF. I keep hearing the word "Attitude" but there's a bad echo at Louisville Gardens, so I can't make it all out. Flash snaps when Bruce calls him an asshole and attacks both him and Cornette. Then TRACY SMOTHERS hits the ring and goes after Flash. The two have a match which probably rocked and Flash gets a win which Cornette sells as an upset. Post-match, Tracy cuts a fun promo challenging Flash to a hardcore match at Thanksgiving Thunder.

[1999-11-20-AJPW-Real World Tag League] Mitsuharu Misawa & Yoshinari Ogawa vs Kenta Kobashi & Jun Akiyama
I enjoyed this match but this series has definitely played to diminishing returns since March. There's a moment of miscommunication when Misawa and Ogawa are attempting an Irish whip double team move of some kind that results in a pretty bad looking spot, and the Ogawa underdog story has already been told, so repeating it here without any progress being made doesn't really do much for me. But it's these four, the match is still strong. The highlight for me is how Misawa and Ogawa work as a team. I loved Ogawa booby trapping Akiyama's ankle so he couldn't move out of the way of Misawa coming off the top rope. This goes to a 30-minute draw and I think they did make good use of the time. Misawa and Kobashi had their sequences, and the Burning Hammer is still being very protected. Nothing too memorable, but a great match anyway.

[1999-11-19-ECW-TNN] The Sandman, Tommy Dreamer and Raven
Rhino, Victory and Corino attack Raven and Saturn. The crowd chants for Sandman and he finally makes the save, complete with full entrance. After clearing the ring, Raven attacks Sandman and Dreamer tries to pull them apart. Sandman ends up accidentally caning Dreamer when he goes for Raven, and the Impact Players run in to attack everyone.

[1999-11-18-WWF-Smackdown] Mankind and Al Snow in Las Vegas
Mankind and Al Snow hit the town in Las Vegas. A fan keeps yelling Rock's catchphrases at them everywhere they go and they keep beating the fan up. This is pretty funny. Fans offer to take them to a strip club, which Mankind finds offensive and sexist until they reveal that they are paying.

[1999-11-18-WCW-Thunder] Interview: La Parka & Kaz Hayashi
More of the overdubbed voices for La Parka and Kaz. This isn't the type of thing that's going to work in WCW, but I think this would have gotten La Parka over in the WWF.

[1999-11-15-WWF-Raw] Chris Jericho and Chyna
Chris Jericho dispatches a cameraman to follow him to a room where he has Chyna tied to a chair. He does his first serious promo (his first serious promo ever?) by yelling at Chyna. This was pitched by Jericho as a way to start making his character more serious. He wants Chyna to say he was the better person and she refuses so Jericho smashes her thumb multiple times with a hammer! Pretty wild angle.

[1999-11-15-WWF-Raw] APA attacked
Earl Hebner tips off the APA that the same guys they beat up in the bar the week before are waiting outside. The four of them want to fight and the APA do a number on them. Bradshaw does look good beating dudes up, even if I don't get the point of all of this.

[1999-11-15-WWF-Raw] Police Investigation
Investigations are underway to see who ran over Steve Austin. The police are interviewing DX and Vince, who DX fingers. Vince is upset about this and puts them all in punishment matches. The police then turn their attention to Patterson and Brisco. In the middle of all of this, Vince makes a #1 contender's match between The Rock and Big Boss Man. When Rock is being interviewed about the match when the police interrupt his interview to ask him some questions. Some of this stuff is funny seeing WWF guys in full-on stage personas telling off police. Later in the show, Jerry Lawler points the finger at Jim Ross.

Dave Meltzer stuff
He also used Ring of Hell and Punk's angle going into Money In The Bank 2011 to do the same bio. Add in the latest iteration, the original bio and the DVD bio and that's five times. Are there others I'm missing?

Wrestling Fans & Motivations
The only way to get past that is to evolve your thinking in the way Dave has in recent years, which is basically that if it works on that evening for the fans who are in the building, then it works period. And I'm not someone likely to give much credit to a match that fails in that regard, but I'm also not sure I can take that leap.

[1999-11-15-WCW-Nitro] Sting and Lex Luger / Sting vs Lex Luger
Sting gets some flowers from Luger, who just wants to talk. Luger and Liz are upset because their plan failed to send Sting flowers that would make him have some type of allergic reaction. They go to Plan B and end up putting Ex-Lax in a pack of brownies. Someone attempts to deliver them to Sting, but Duggan intercepts the delivery and decides to eat them himself. So then we get Sting vs Luger in the ring. Last few minutes. Luger trips the ref when Sting puts him in the Scorpion Deathlock, then Liz runs in and sprays Sting in the eyes. This is followed by Luger putting Sting in the rack but Meng runs down (getting revenge for something - I don't remember what) to apply a Tongan Death Grip on Lex. Sting then pins Luger to advance in the title tournament. Then we see Duggan coming out of the toilet in a sweat.

[1999-11-15-WCW-Nitro] Juventud Guerrera vs El Dandy vs Psicosis vs Silver King (Pinata on a Pole)
Racism equals ratings, as Russo berates the luchadores before announcing a Pinata on a Pole match. This is also the debut of Oklahoma, as he and the debuting Dr. Death are at ringside. We already know about them making fun of Jim Ross's Bells Palsy and how tasteless that was, so I'll just focus on the funny parts of Oklahoma on commentary, which are plentiful. It's a shame he did the Bells Palsy face, because Oklahoma was genuinely funny. It may not have been a funny parody for very long, but it was funny one time. Saying Juventud Guerrera was a great defensive lineman at Tijuana State was awesome, as was him screaming out names three times, telling Tony to speak in soundbytes and informing us that Dr. Death is going to go through this locker room like a hemophiliac going through a pack of Band-Aids. Doc runs in and attacks everyone in the ring after Juventud wins the pinata and candy (yes) but is a little careless and injures a few guys unfortunately.

[1999-11-15-WCW-Nitro] Scott Hall, Kevin Nash and Sid
Hall and Nash are out with Nash dressed as Sid. This is getting really old. Fans are just in their own little world not even listening to what they are saying, chanting for Goldberg. Sid interrupts with the famous I HAVE HALF THE BRAIN THAT YOU DO rebuttal. Sid wants Nash in the ring but Nash says he's still retired.

[1999-11-14-WWF-Survivor Series] HHH vs The Rock vs Big Show
So did they knowingly false advertise this main event knowing Austin wouldn't be able to work the entire time? HHH and X-Pac wants to know what the plan for the main event is, but Shane hasn't made up his mind yet. Then we cut to the last few minutes of the match. Shane runs out in a ref's shirt to take over the match. Such a difference between Rock-HHH and Big Show against either one of them. HHH tries a belt shot and Shane takes it from him, so HHH gives him a pedigree. DX come out to attack Rock and Show. Crowd chants for Austin, probably thinking this was just another angle. Vince walks out with a purpose and hits HHH with the belt, which looks messed up, then HHH walks right into a chokeslam. Big Show wins the title in what was probably the first example of a guy winning the title without moving up on the card.

[1999-11-14-WWF-Survivor Series] Chris Jericho vs Chyna
Last few minutes. Crowd is STRONGLY behind Jericho. Chyna wins with a pedigree from the top rope to retain the IC title. Crowd is pretty unhappy.

[1999-11-14-WWF-Survivor Series] Steve Austin Hit and Run
Austin and HHH end up in a brawl and Austin looks for him in a parking lot, only for a car to run over Austin and take off. Don't worry Austin, Rikishi simply did it for The Rock.

[1999-11-13-ECW-TV] Steve Corino and The Sandman
I'm loving Steve Corino as Eddie Gilbert. The Impact Players attack and mug Sandman and Dreamer with a little help from Rhino and Corino. After debating it for a while, Raven finally makes the save and knocks Rhino out with a chair. The storyline is that he gets jealous when other people beat up Dreamer. Raven helps Sandman to his feet, but Sandman canes him to give him a receipt.
