  1. Duggan appeals to the Powers That Be for a job while Creative Control smirk in the background. We hear Russo off camera, but we don't see him. IT'S ALL ABOUT RATINGS. Russo simply tells Duggan he'll think about it. Then we cut to Hall and Nash and Nash continues his Vince parody with a "Get It?" wink. Then we see the Filthy Animals and The Revolution preparing for their match. Then Hall and "Vince" go to Sid's locker room. Then we get a Goldberg interview on a movie set to discuss the attack from Hall, Nash and Sid the week before. Then we get the Nitro Girls about to fight before "Vince" interrupts them and encourages them to save it for pay-per-view. Yay Russo.
  2. We get a Jeff Jarrett interview to lead into this. Kevin Nash comes out and does the single worst impersonation of all time - so bad it's good. He's supposed to look like Vince McMahon and instead, he looks like Chuck Woolery. Nash does a series of Vince-isms. Best line: "Unlike Billionaire Ted, I didn't buy my way to the top. I borrowed money!" This is also how he introduces Scott Hall. No Russo bitterness here. "I proudly stand behind the next WCW World Champion. Not only is he my cash cow. Not only can I continue to push him as a babyface until the fans regurgitate him. He's also the roughest SOB in WCW. And not only that, but someday he *will* work in the main event against Jeff Jarrett. He's clean, he's sober and he has more than one catchphrase - give it up for the trousersnake ... Scott Hall!" Nash's Vince wig falls off and he has his ponytail in the back, just to make this more pathetically bad. Hall has been told one more strike and he's fired, so he isn't going to burn any bridges up North. Hall asks if he can just shoot with him and tell him who picks out his clothes. "Do you shop at Jacques C'est Penne?"
  3. Larry Zbyszko does a sit-down interview with Scott Steiner, who is still recovering from a serious injury. The house Scott is in looks like a classic grandmother's house. Scott babyfaces himself in the interview and hopes he can come back, but he doesn't feel great and he's not sure.
  4. Kidman catches Luger and Liz talking on the Kid Cam. Luger is bragging about his physique and Liz implores Luger to look at the brackets. Luger tells her to do something about this as his manager. In classic WCW fashion, they keep this going way too long and we get the cameramen calling for the scene to cut and Liz happily drinking her Diet Coke.

  6. Last few minutes. Dawn Marie and Francine get in a catfight when Dawn Marie breaks up the Raven pin attempt. Dreamer grabs Dawn Marie and is about to piledrive her when Rhino shows up and takes out Dreamer. The Impact Players have a two-count when the lights go out in the ECW Arena. When they come back on, it's The Sandman, who has returned to a massive pop. Pretty electric scene.
  7. Great match that's not worked like you might expect it to be, as they take the aggression way up to play off of the recent attack angle. Tajiri shows his sadistic side and really is awesome at mixing in his highspots with barbaric heel stuff. Give credit to both guys for doing things you don't see from them as part of their usual routine. They really worked hard to get this over as a hate-filled match. My write-up isn't really doing this justice but it's excellent.
  8. Sign Guy is out for an interview and he's no longer a Dudley, and they have to mute the sound because of a "Fuck You" chant. Classy. Why did they even bother airing this? Looks like Sign Guy is being repackaged as Lou E. Dangerously. Suddenly, he puts on a hat and looks exactly like Paul E. He promises that tonight, he's bringing back a former World Champion - Mikey Whipwreck. Mikey gets the hero's welcome.
  9. Dave Brown has been told that Tommy and Peggy Gilbert are in town, so he's excited to bring them out. But it's Brian Christopher and the Spellbinder doing yet another parody. I can already tell this will be great before either of them says anything. Brian Christopher is awesome at parodies. Spellbinder's Tommy mustache is crooked, which just makes it funnier. Brian as Peggy calls Doug a disgrace to the Gilbert family. He keeps pulling absurd things out of his purse, climaxing with a fake old Memphis program showing that Tommy Gilbert vs Moses once headlined Mid South Coliseum. Peggy then reveals that Doug is not Tommy's son. Tommy is shocked, so Brian gives him what he thinks is heart pills but it's Viagra. Peggy says Doug's real father was the Ice Cream Man. Brian Christopher!
  10. After a rough start, I’m fully on board the Vader train. The matches are the right length for his style and he’s getting to show his stuff in the best way possible. I wish Misawa didn’t take the powerbomb on the floor but it’s become kind of a standard Vader in All Japan spot and it is consistent with where the overall style of AJ was at that point. Vader takes Misawa’s head off with a great punch right before finishing him off with a powerbomb in 12 minutes! Awesome short match.
  11. Kobashi loses his temper over Takayama striking him and goes on a tear on him in the corner in an awesome moment, to the point that Akiyama and the referee have to restrain him. In a cool moment, while he’s being restrained, Omori sneaks in a dropkick to Kobashi and also hits Akiyama from behind to neutralize both while Takayama struggles to make a tag. It’s that take-charge layout that’s really cool and does as much to elevate these guys as any match result would. This gives them a few minutes to work over Akiyama, and Takayama gets a receipt on Kobashi by knocking him to the floor from the apron. Kobashi tags in and gets destroyed too. This isn’t really a one-sided match or anything, but I’m a little shocked at how strong they’re being put over, almost like a homegrown version of Hansen-Gordy or Doc-Gordy in terms of their aggression and dominance. There was a Takayama nearfall on Kobashi that I completely bought near the end of this, right before Kobashi finished him off. This was great.
  12. We see that angle with Storm and Dawn Marie for the third time. Then we cut to a bloody Raven saying he hates Dreamer even worse than he hates the Impact Players. Then he attacks Dreamer with a microphone but Dreamer makes a comeback this time. This feud from 1995 is played out. Then Raven does one his typical promos. He's a better talker than he was in his first stint, but Raven is old news.
  13. First time seeing Hayabusa in the "H" gimmick. Mr. Gannosuke is now the fake Hayabusa. This appears to be at least slightly clipped but the action looks good and they do work this like more of a grudge match, which makes sense considering the hot angle in August. This is the most uncomfortable match stipulation probably ever, as the loser has to do exactly what the thread title suggests - stick some type of firework in his rectum. Hayabusa sticks a firework in H's butt crack and all I can say is don't watch this. Jesus.
  14. Austin catches Road Dogg in a bear trap that is really effectively gimmicked. Then, Boss Man and Albert are in the parking lot plotting against Al Snow when Big Show shows up and destroys the car they are in. Then Show pushes a dumpster on top of the car to crush it, all while Boss Man and Albert are stuck inside. Later, Billy Gunn gets caught in a booby trap and the ceiling falls in on X-Pac. An injured DX comes out to address this. HHH has had enough. Austin does a promo on each member of DX that sounds more like something Rock would say filled with comedy and one-liners. Then a giant net falls from the ceiling and Austin finds ways to attack them all. HHH escapes but Austin does a number on him while DX is tied up. Then Kane's music starts and he comes out to get in some shots on DX as well, since X-Pac turned on him earlier in the night. Then The Rock joins them. Michael Cole saying "Damn straight" made a small part of me die. This was pretty bad.
  15. JIP. Hall and Nash wrestle the women for a while and Nash reaches out for a hot tag and they get the crowd super involved. Nash does the hot tag and exaggerates it like crazy in a hilarious slo-mo moment. This woman with ridiculous boobs I don't even know how to describe comes in and promises they can have some fun if Hall and Nash will let them win. So they both lay down willingly and get pinned by the girls. Post-match, Hall and Nash want themselves some of that and while they are distracted, Goldberg runs out to spear both guys. This was fun. Russo understood Hall and Nash.
  16. DDP vs David Flair match, with DDP and Kimberly cutting a pre-match promo. David had a crowbar hidden in his robe, which he uses to attack DDP from behind. This was the beginning of David Flair being reimagined as a goth psycho. DDP is carted out on a stretcher.
  17. Randy Savage wears an amazing pimp suit and is pulled out of mothballs one last time to fake shoot on Vince Russo for trying to kill him off. He can't be punked out like Hogan and Flair. He says the yellow-and-red and Space Mountain are played out, but the Macho Man still has game. He has the least game of all three at this point. Tonight, Randy Savage will pass the torch to someone who will go on to be even better than he was. Nothing ever came of this. Then we cut to the Filthy Animals, who can't find Torrie Wilson anywhere in the back. Then it's announced Madusa will be in the WCW World Title tournament as Vince Russo tries to make her their Chyna.
  18. Footage of Hall and Nash bringing an ice chest into the ring. Mike Graham meets them in the back to tell them they have a match tonight. Mike Tenay later says that this is an "obvious ratings ploy from the Powers To Be". POWERS TO BE. There should be a drinking game every time someone botches that. The Outsiders don't seem too concerned.
  19. Sting is out in sunglasses with no face paint. He wants to talk to JJ Dillon and is pretty angry. He says he never said the world title would be up for grabs. He wants the belt back now. JJ says Sting is absolutely right that Goldberg is not the champ, but neither is Sting. The title is vacant and there will be a 32-man tournament to decide the new champion. Sting attacks JJ over this and Stinger splashes him. He's putting him in the scorpion deathlock when Goldberg makes the save and he and Sting get in a great brawl which is pulled apart by security.
  20. I loved this match. It was a really good tag team sprint. They cut an awesome pace and the Outlaws even feed Austin and Rock some good spots. Austin ends up as FIP, which surprises me. It’s interesting how Billy Gunn is worlds better as a tag wrestler than a singles wrestler. He has great chemistry with Austin here and mixes in some good heel stuff with good athleticism. I like the top two singles wrestlers against the top tag team being on the set, and it helps that it’s one of the better TV main events of the year. HHH runs in but Austin cuts him off a the pass. They end up brawling out of sight leaving Rock on his own to fight off the Outlaws. Rock is making his own comeback when X-Pac shows up to attack Rock. DX is reunited!
  21. The APA show up at the Friendly Tap, a bar owned by WWF referee Tim White. Some guys offer to buy them a drink, which they decline, so the guys pick a fight about them being too good to associate with locals. The guy doing the talking is apparently an arm wrestling champion and wants to arm wrestle Bradshaw, who immediately takes him down. The guy then calls Faarooq "darky, like your shirt", which sets off a fight all over the bar.
  22. Vince wants to know what Mankind means by saying he has the best facial expressions in the business in a funny moment.
  23. Goldberg accepts the Sting challenge. The announcers learn during the match that this is a non-title match but Sting and Goldberg are unaware of that. Charles Robinson referees the match after taking a Diamond Cutter earlier, which is crazy stupid. This is kind of a clumsy match, with Goldberg no-selling a spear from Sting, which was an on-the-fly adjustment since Goldberg was out of position. After that, they get back on track and Goldberg shows some cool athleticism before pinning Sting after a spear and jackhammer. Goldberg thinks he's won the title and then Penzer announces Goldberg as the new champ, but Tony and Bobby kept saying this was non-title. What a mess. They've confused the announcers, so of course they're going to confuse the people. Post-match, Sting gives Charles Robinson a scorpion death drop out of frustration. No worries, I'm sure if there was an exclusive match for the live crowd, he would have no problem refereeing it. I love Tony and Bobby trying to hide their dislike of this show and failing miserably.
  24. Last few minutes. Blood in this match too. Flair puts DDP in the figure four. They mess up the finish, as Flair is supposed to lose but kicks out. David Flair tries to help his dad by running out with a crowbar and Kimberly cuts him off and hands it to DDP. Flair takes a crotch shot with the crowbar. DDP takes two Diamond Cutters. Flair is carted out on a stretcher and they treat this as a serious injury angle. Then the Filthy Animals jump Flair on the stretcher and hi-jack the ambulance while Torrie videotapes the whole thing. In one night, Russo got rid of Flair and Hogan for a few months with the idea of building up other guys then bringing both back in more of a legends role.
