  1. Sting didn't come to Las Vegas for a night off. He came for a fight. He issues an open challenge to anyone willing to take him on in a title match.
  2. Sid is already bleeding, I guess from an angle earlier in the night. A lot of good security does when Scott Hall and Kevin Nash just power through them and attack Goldberg before the match anyway. Goldberg quickly goes all Taylor Swift and shakes it off. This wasn't any good or anything, but working it this way made for a much better match than it would have had they just gone straight up with no blood. Goldberg just decimates Sid and works over the cut but he doesn't have enough offense to keep it interesting. The visual of a blood-soaked Sid trying to fight his way back was great though. The match is stopped due to blood loss and Goldberg gets the win. Goldberg wins the U.S. title.
  3. Hulk Hogan's entrance music plays and plays, but he doesn't come out, so they switch to Sting's music and Sting does come out. Then Hogan's music plays again and he no-shows yet again. Finally, Hogan comes out dressed in all black and jeans looking pissed off. Hogan and Sting have some type of conversation, then Hogan lays down for Sting to pin him. This was Russo's idea to get rid of Hogan for a while, but building up a world title PPV match and then giving this is a bit of a ripoff.
  4. Madusa is out to hype WCW Nitro cologne. The announcers inexplicably talk about how awful it is and how much it stinks. Madusa uses this to go on a rant about having to wear a bikini and do this, calls the whole thing bullshit and pours the cologne on Bobby Heenan. Oh, Vince Russo.
  5. Last few minutes. Rick Steiner uses a chair to block a diving headbutt. Malenko turns on Benoit by smacking him with a chair, giving Rick Steiner the win and helping him regain the TV title. Malenko and Saturn celebrate together after to confirm that they were in on this together.
  6. There have been many good triple threats in 1999 ECW, and I appreciate how different they have all been. This was more of a brawl than I expected, but that's not a bad thing at all. They do some really good stuff in the crowd early on with big dives and chairshots. I like how Guido keeps making it to the end of these things since he gets heat for eliminating a crowd favorite and he's usually the best worker in the match, so he can stay in longer. The match was very good, but they didn't create much doubt over the outcome near the end, which keeps it from being one of the better matches of ECW in 1999 for me.
  7. This is an incredible video to Kirk Franklin's "Do You Want A Revolution?" Maybe my favorite thing from KAW thus far.
  8. Brian Christopher tries to back track, saying he actually likes Tommy Rich. It's Doug Gilbert he has the problem with. Tommy will have none of it. Fun match, but it doesn't last very long, as Spellbinder runs in to attack Rich for the DQ.
  9. Kevin Christian comes out during Brian Christopher's scheduled interview time. Doug Gilbert is not there today because he has PCS. He says he saw Doug wandering around outside across the street and brought him into the studio where it's safe. We get Brian Christopher coming out dressed like him and this is a pretty funny, spot-on impersonation. He copies his accent and promo cadence a little too well. Those crazy Lawler kids. He blames Lawler for being blackballed from the WWF during this parody, which is probably real feelings being thrown into the promo. Spellbinder then comes out dressed as Tommy Rich in an even more accurate impersonation. He has a bottle of alcohol in a paper bag. Tommy Rich comes out to stop this but Power Pro officials are holding him back. This is better than every WWF and WCW parody. So great.
  10. Tommy Rich wants a match with Brian Christopher, as he's upset with his recent actions against Doug Gilbert.
  11. This didn't grab me like the March tag did, but it was still a strong match. The March tag was all about Ogawa showing he could compete at this level, while this one was more of a showcase of the Misawa-Kobashi rivalry. Kobashi and Akiyama are dominant for most of this and keep Ogawa neutralized so they can decimate Misawa. This is a very decisive match that certainly works in that regard, as Kobashi pins Misawa once again after delivering a Burning Hammer. I liked this quite a bit, but I was hoping/expecting to like it more than I did.
  12. Video of various clips to Godsmack's "Whatever". Good stuff.
  13. ECW action figures! It's true what they say - they really were too small to be big and too big to be small.
  14. Match doesn't last long, as Danny Doring and Roadkill end up getting involved, and Tammy gets in a catfight with Miss Congeniality. Lance Storm and Dawn Marie then come out and Dawn Marie ends up paddling Tammy before calling out Francine. Storm trolls Dreamer into a fight and he and Francine enter the ring until Justin Credible hits Dreamer from behind with a Singapore can. Raven comes out but stops short of making a save until the Players provoke him, then Raven clears the ring, but DDTs Dreamer yet again after doing so.
  15. This may be the best WWF TV match of the year, and it’s a unique matchup to boot. Austin gave Val a lot in this match and Val hangs really well at the main event level. Austin takes a suplex on the floor and also bumps over the guardrail at ringside. They actually do the best job they possibly can getting over Venis’s chances of pulling off an upset. Great TV wrestling.
  16. The Godfather tells Mark Henry nothing is wrong with him, and that the only thing that's wrong with him is that he thinks something is wrong with him. A sex addict gets advice from a pimp. Not a healthy environment.
  17. Barry Blaustein is on Entertainment Tonight to hype Beyond The Mat. We also get some comments from Mick Foley. The clips they pick are the right ones to really get over what this documentary is about. Well done piece.
  18. Solid match from CIMA, who I'm interested in tracking in the early part of the decade. This is more about the potential these guys have than it is a great match on its own, but that's good.
  19. Mankind is despondent and sits on the ring steps looking away from the ring. Rock wrestles the match on his own. It really was a brilliant idea to work the book into storylines. HHH runs in behind the ref's back and pedigrees Rock to give the Hollys the tag titles and Foley just walks off. I like that booking - Rock needed a big out to do a job to either Holly. Austin runs out and beats up HHH and throws him back in the ring where The Rock gets his revenge with a Rock Bottom and People's Elbow, but Austin cuts him off with middle fingers before he drops it, then gives HHH a stunner himself. I like this.
  20. A very angry Mankind confronts The Rock over trashing his book. I hated The Rock at the time and really enjoyed this and thought it was overdue. Foley wrote in his book that he held on to anger for months over Rock not checking on him after their Rumble match and that pent up anger sort of let itself out here.
  21. Al Snow finds a copy of Have a Nice Day in the trash and very obviously overacts by saying "Gee, someone better tell Mankind." Snow finds Mick to tell him he found the book in the trash.
  22. Chyna is out to celebrate her IC title victory. Miss Kitty is with her repackaged as a mini-Chyna. That's weird, but I guess they were looking for a role for her with Jarrett gone. Chyna wants to challenge any guy who thinks he can beat her. Cue the Y2J countdown. Chris Jericho has never been ashamed to be in this business until last night. Chyna is the biggest embarrassment he has ever seen, and Chyna is proof that the WWF is in a downward spiral, which makes him sick. "The thought of you as a credible and believable champion is an idea even more ridiculously enhanced than your breasts are." Chyna takes a shot at him and takes off, and Jericho has his first big feud.
