[1999-10-15-ECW-TNN] Lance Storm and Chris Candido
My favorite thing to watch on all of the ECW segments is the venues. This looks very much like a WCW crowd for a PPV or Clash in the early 90s in terms of size. Lance Storm wants to confront Tammy about her TNN confession. The camera is entirely focused on Tammy's reactions to what Storm is saying instead of Storm. Tammy and Dawn Marie try to get in a catfight, as do Storm and Candido, but it gets pulled apart before anything happens.

[1999-10-14-WWF-Smackdown] The Rock & Mankind vs New Age Outlaws
Last few minutes. Bill Gunn seems to have raided Steve Austin's ring gear from 1990. Great heat after Rock gets the hot tag. The Hollys interfere, with Crash trying to hit Billy Gunn and hitting Mankind instead. Bob hits his target and Mankind pins Gunn to bring the tag titles back to the Rock & Sock. The storyline here was that Rock had said this would be the end of the line for them, which begs the question of why they went into a title match in the first place.

[1999-10-14-WWF-Smackdown] Mark Henry and Sex Therapist
Mark Henry has switched to a male sex therapist since he was too distracted by the women. Now his therapist is an implied gay man and he leaves in disgust. Oh-ho-ho-ho.

[1999-10-14-WCW-Thunder] Kevin Nash: Color Commentator
Ok, so this is epic. Kevin Nash does color commentary on Thunder and it is amazing. Nash starts by saying for all of the people who say he's a horrible booker, he booked the best angle of all time in his retirement. Then he puts together a video package of the Goldberg-Sid feud from Nitro that he narrates himself that is hilarious. Then he complains about doing a job in an action figure commercial. Next, Meng vs Buzz Stern with Nash pointing out that you never see Meng and Barry White at the same time. He adds that we know Meng is going to win this because we just saw a video package for him. There was an amazing video recap of this on YouTube at one time, but it was taken down for copyright infringement. Too much comedy to list it all here.

[1999-10-11-WWF-Raw] Interview: Shane & Stephanie McMahon
Stephanie has no short-term memory, which is cute in a Finding Nemo sort of way. Stephanie blames herself for letting everyone down, and Shane assures her that it's not her fault.

[1999-10-11-WCW-Nitro] Interview: Scott Hall & Kevin Nash
This is pretty much of a repeat of the segment from last week. Scott Hall said his back is sore from bending over backwards to carry the company. Can one guy really be that delusional? Is it even possible? Nash says Happy Birthday to Dusty Rhodes. Hall and Nash are drunk again but not quite as lit up as last week. Bobby Heenan wants a date for when they are returning and Nash sarcastically says July 2012. Thank God THAT didn't happen.

[1999-10-11-WCW-Nitro] Bobby Heenan on Gorilla Monsoon
Bobby Heenan does a really sincere and nice tribute to Gorilla Monsoon. I liked him saying the pearly gates of heaven would now be called the Gorilla Position.

[1999-10-11-NJPW-Final Dome] Shinya Hashimoto vs Naoya Ogawa
Tatsumi Fujinami was the special referee and Antonio Inoki was at ringside in a tuxedo. Electric atmosphere for this, and the few times Hashimoto is able to muster a comeback, the heat is off the charts. Hashimoto makes this something worth watching for sure, and it was an incredibly successful match, but it's more great spectacle than great match. That's perfectly fine, as a great match wasn't really what they were going for. And the feud continues.

[1999-10-11-NJPW-Final Dome] Shinjiro Otani & Tatsuhito Takaiwa vs Minoru Tanaka & Koji Kanemoto
Footage of a press conference precedes this, where things got heated between Otani and Kanemoto. This match was fantastic. They worked a relentless match, which seems an odd word to describe a match, but I think it works. What I mean by that is that the effort was there immediately from the opening bell and I'm not sure they ever wavered from that at all. Otani and Kanemoto have really come into their own by this time and carry the bulk of this, looking great doing it. But there was also a decent amount of spotlight given to Minoru Tanaka, trying to get him over as someone ready to hang at this level, even in losing. I wouldn't quite call this a MOTYC, but it's just below and it's another great match in 1999.

[1999-10-09-OVW-TV] Flash Flanagan promo
Flash Flanagan claims he was screwed in the HIAC match. He blames Jim Cornette. He points out that Cornette stopped the referee's count after he used a chain even though the match was No DQ, and that's a compelling point of view. He claims the WWF doesn't want him because they are scared of him. Flash is not a particularly good promo, but you can tell he's trying. Cornette takes offense to Flash Flanagan telling very Jim Cornette-like jokes. The ref that Flanagan criticized gets in the ring and takes off shirt wanting to fight since Flash has been insulting his family. When brawling starts, this segments gets really good, but I don't know what good Cornette getting a babyface comeback on Flash Flanagan does. Trailer Park Trash and Rico Constantino make the save and run Flash off.

[1999-10-02-WWF-Rebellion] Davey Boy Smith and Vince McMahon
Russo wanted Test to be the heel and turn on Stephanie, aligning Test and HHH as top heels. What happened was much better.

[1999-10-09-OVW-TV] Music Video: Scotty Sabre & Danica / Sean Casey promo
Such a cheap-looking video, especially by 1999, and the choice of songs ("I Got You Babe") isn't helping either. Just clips of these two walking around the mall all day. Thrilling. Then we get a promo from Scott Casey and Mercedes, whoever they are.

[1999-10-09-MPPW-TV] Brian Christopher and Doug Gilbert
An ambulance pulls up to the studio (why?) carting Brian Christopher on a stretcher. Christopher has been told by doctors he can't wrestle, but he didn't want anyone to think he was a coward so he insisted that the EMTs bring him to the studio. Funny. He thinks he may be dealing with the end of his career. Doug Gilbert comes out to yell at him while he's strapped down in a funny moment before shoving the EMTs back. Brian ends up throwing powder in Doug's eyes and then DDTing him on the studio floor. Brian then uses tape to basically hogtie Doug and beat the crap out of him. He then pushes him out into the parking lot and tries to push him out into the street (!!) but he's blocked in by a car pulling out. The stretcher almost makes into traffic anyway, but Brian catches it just in time. What chaos! I love watching the cars drive by like nothing is happening. This is a great beatdown and I liked the segment a lot. But the premise of this is pretty dumb because of the plausibility of an ambulance arriving at a wrestling show. Later in the show, Brian is back out to gloat and do the hard sell for the house show match that evening. Then Brian does the Roger Rabbit while in his knee brace (!!!) until Doug runs back out and chases him away and does one last promo.

[1999-10-09-MPPW-TV] Interview: Doug Gilbert / Lance Cade and Blade
Another excellent interview from Doug, even tying in Dave Brown's weather predictions to his own predictions for his match with Brian Christopher. This is followed by a wrestler named Blade walking into the building to make his debut today, only to be attacked by Lance Cade, who was upset about not being booked, and thrown in his car where Cade drove off with him.

[1999-10-09-AJPW-October Giant Series] Kenta Kobashi & Jun Akiyama & Kentaro Shiga vs Yoshihiro Takayama & Takao Omori & Masa Fuchi
This is a fantastic six-man tag. Akiyama is just awesome in this, both as an aggressor and in selling the attack from No Fear and Fuchi. Everything looks so crisp and I love the pacing of this and the aggression of the heel side. Fuchi is a great tag team partner for No Fear since everyone on that side is such an asshole. Kobashi puts on The Kobashi Show, but he’s freakin’ great at it. It’s cool to see Fuchi still had it this late too. This doesn’t really build to an exciting finish like the best six-man tags do, but it’s awfully decisive and it’s hard to complain about that.
