[1999-08-28-NJPW-Jingu Climax] Great Muta vs Great Nita (No Rope Barbed Wire Land Mine Exploding Death)
Yep. This match happened in New Japan of all places. Great Nita is of course Onita doing a Muta gimmick. It was AWFUL when I watched it in full, and I didn't want to wish that on anyone else. The less seen of this, the better, even though it sounds like a decent morbid curiosity pick. Don't give into temptation and watch this in full.

[1999-08-28-NJPW-Jingu Climax] Yuji Nagata & Manabu Nakanishi vs Michiyoshi Ohara & Tatsutoshi Goto
Last few minutes. Ohara and Goto do a lot to put Nakanishi over in some pretty American sequences. Nakanishi is bleeding from the mouth and seems to be a pretty horrible wrestler. He and Nagata win the IWGP tag titles here.

[1999-08-27-ECW-TNN] Music Video: ECW / Taz promo
The video for "Bawitdaba" mixed in with ECW clips. Pretty good intro to ECW video and I remember thinking they laid out this episode really well. This transitions to a Taz promo about ECW on TNN. He talks about beating guys like Chris Jericho, Shane Douglas, Bam Bam Bigelow, 2 Cold Scorpio, Chris Candido and Jerry Lawler.

[1999-08-26-WWF-Smackdown] The Rock vs HHH
Last few minutes. Just as Rock is about to beat HHH, Shawn turns on him by delivering a superkick to give HHH the win. And we never got any type of explanation and Shawn disappeared for the next several months. Not sure the point of that turn.

[1999-08-26-WWF-Smackdown] Stephanie McMahon and Test / Mankind vs Shane McMahon
Stephanie wants to talk to Test. She just wanted everything to be right, which is why she didn't answer on Monday. He proposes once again and she says yes. They make out until the Mean Street Posse show up and attack Test, with Shane holding his sister back in the corner. Mankind comes to the rescue with a chair and lays out the MSP before telling Shane they are going to have their match right now. He tells Shane he wants to give him one shot. Shane hits him on the back with a chair but Mankind gets up quickly and lays a beating on Shane. The MSP try to make the save, but Test is revived and does a number on him, and Patterson and Brisco come out to help him out. Then Stephanie chokes out Pete Gas! Now it's just Mankind and Shane and Shane eats Mr. Socko until Chyna distracts the ref long enough for HHH to smack Mankind with a chair, giving Shane the win. This is a whole lot of booking.

[1999-08-25-FMW-Goodbye Hayabusa II] Hayabusa vs Mr Gannosuke
Another awesome WRESTLING match from the stars of FMW. I’m pretty sure this was the best wrestling promotion in the world at this point. They do lots of mat stuff, but they work more of a contrast than in the other matches, with Hayabusa’s high flying countering Gannosuke’s ground game. Gannosuke keeps pulling these out of nowhere counters to Hayabusa’s high flying that are just great. He also does this tremendous tricked out pinning combo. Something happened with the finish - I think the referee messed up - and I’m not quite sure what but it didn’t really bother me that much. Another MOTYC from FMW in a banner year for Gannosuke. Fuyuki comes in at the end to present Hayabusa with a bouquet as part of some ceremony and ends up turning on him. The ring fills with his underlings and he and Gannosuke immediately swarm Hayabusa and strip him of his mask and outfit while putting a dog collar around his neck. Heat for this is insane. Just WHOA.

[1999-08-25-AJPW-Summer Action Series II] Mitsuharu Misawa & Yoshinari Ogawa vs Yoshihiro Takayama & Takao Omori
My main man Yoshinari Ogawa can’t take Omori off his feet, so he pokes him in the eye to make it happen. Awesome. I thought this match built really well and was a good showcase for Ogawa. I prefer his slimy side, but once they started working him over, he became more sympathetic than usual, and I liked him trying to navigate his way through a match against such a dominant tag team and two guys who were much bigger than him. This was really good, especially in the final few minutes. Misawa got the pin, but really had to earn it and was pushed to the limit. Ogawa added a lot to this just because he’s so different from everyone else in All Japan who is going out of their way to be a tough guy.

[1999-08] Vince McMahon on Entertainment Tonight
Vince gives a response to Sable's accusations this time around. He claims the charges are unfounded and that they will go away. He predicts that she'll drop the lawsuit and the WWF won't even have to spend any money to defend themselves. Everyone in the WWF claims that this was someone getting a big head. They transition to Vince talking about competing with Friends on Thursday nights.

[1999-08] Sable on Entertainment Tonight
Sable tells ET she is now simply Rena Mero and explains her lawsuit yet again. She claims she was threatened with physical violence by other female wrestlers if she wouldn't expose her breasts on TV, and that management looked the other way when women were mistreated in the locker room. Her final straw was when she picked up her bag in the locker room and discovered that it was filled with feces. She once again explains the difference between posing for Playboy and being stripped in front of a live audience.

[1999-08-23-WWF-Raw] HHH vs Mankind
Last few minutes. The Rock is on commentary and isn't nearly as good as Austin is at getting himself over without shitting on the match. Special referee Shane McMahon ends up attacking Shane with a chair, and HHH lays out Rock at the booth. Good, he was acting like an asshole. HHH gives Mankind a pedigree back in the ring and Shane counts the fall to give HHH his first title win.

[1999-08-23-WWF-Raw] Howard Finkel, Road Dogg and Chris Jericho
Howard Finkel comes out to the Ultimate Warrior's theme. He tells the crowd he believes in Chris Jericho and that he has come to the WWF to make it a better place. Finkel cuts a hilarious promo on Road Dogg and challenges him to a fight. Road Dogg obliges his request but gives him an opportunity to bail, which he doesn't take. He starts shoving Road Dogg and the Y2J countdown starts when Road Dogg is about to get his hands on Finkel. Jericho attacks Road Dogg from behind while his entrance is happening, and he gives the Dogg a double powerbomb, which was a move he couldn't do for long.

[1999-08-23-WWF-Raw] Test and Stephanie McMahon
Test wants Stephanie McMahon to come out so he can pop a certain question. Shane runs into the ring before Test can get his question out. This quickly turns into an argument between the McMahon children, with Stephanie being especially whiny. Test tells Stephanie to forget about Shane and drops to one knee and asks her to marry him. She tells Test she loves him, but she just needs some time. Test says he understands. Shane acts like he won.

[1999-08-23-WWF-Raw] Blonde Bytch Project
Blair Witch spoof with the Blue Meanie going into the woods to look for the Blonde Bytch, which was the WWF's weekly therapy session to complain about Sable and eventually led to Stevie Richards' debut.

[1999-08-23-WWF-Raw] HHH, Jim Ross and Mankind
Jim Ross is set to interview Mankind when HHH and Chyna come out. HHH goes on and on pissed off about not getting his moment in the sun the night before. Great heat for this. HHH ends up attacking Jim Ross since Austin and Foley are his "boys" and he wants Mankind out immediately or he'll break Jim Ross's arm. Mankind agrees to the title shot tonight if HHH lets him go. HHH gets his match, then breaks Jim Ross's arm anyway. While this was executed great, I hated this angle because I think they needed Jim Ross calling matches too much to sacrifice him to run angles. Shane McMahon comes out to make clear that the match is on.

[1999-08-23-WCW-Nitro] Hulk Hogan vs Sting
Hogan back in his old gimmick really makes WCW feel like a company that pressed the reset button back to the early days of Nitro. It was a return to his original gimmick that in theory would give him a shot in the arm, but in reality made him feel even more stale right away. With the slow build, I thought they did a good job of making this match feel big and important. In fact, I think a match this inoffensive at Starrcade ’97 would have made everyone happy.
