For anyone who'd put Chris Jericho - to throw out a random name who I expect will get some love - above John Cena, I'd love to hear the argument, because it's one I don't see at all.
  2. I'm confused because many of the ballots in this thread list up to 15 people.

My recollection is that DDP underperformed in a big way in WWE because he was forced to work against his strengths.

I'm fighting the urge to joke about none of his nostalgia matches on WWE TV for the last 15 years being anything worthwhile, so this is my way of passive aggressively adding that to this thread. Surely if a guy comes back once or twice a year for a TV match for a decade and a half, at least *one* of them should be great, right? Slaughter didn't seem to know when to quit.

Yokozuna doesn't have the match resume of Vader or even Bigelow, but he's someone often cited as doing all the big man stuff right, so I thought we should create a thread for him and discuss him. He really was great at both teasing that he was about to go off of his feet and doing the big "Tim-BEERRRRRR!" style bump. I think everything he did with Bret Hart (aside from the WM matches, which are oddly enough probably the worst matches against each other they had) is worth seeing but maybe there's more?
  6. Along those lines, I noticed starting in late 1998 that a staple of Vince Russo match layouts was guys rushing entrances to brawl. It's one of those things that is cool in small doses to get over a feud as especially heated, but really dumb week after week.
  7. Devil Masami deserves a spot on this list, but I couldn't really find the perfect picture.

Yes, great post and I appreciate you sharing it. But I better not see you pimping Mongo McMichael anytime soon.

He actually never held up Vince. That was one of the reasons he was so pissed at the company when that DVD came out, because it was a complete misrepresentation of the sequence of events at the time. He had documents in a court of law that proved that was a lie, which was the basis for his lawsuit.

I feel like Kevin Federline showed a better understanding of wrestling in his one professional match than I can recall seeing from Warrior, other than the times he was smart enough to let the other guy handle the workload.

His inability to even execute very basic things like - I don't know - kicking shows me he had no respect for his craft, and I could never rank someone like that.

Smothers feels like a guy who sort of made a living on potential. He's a charming wrestler and I like him a lot, but I think he's missing that one gimmick-free singles match where everything comes together and we have an all-time classic on our hands.

With the exception of the Hogan match (which I'd still call Hogan's best singles match as Hollywood), I'd probably put all of these ahead of that Goldberg match. I'm not voting for him, but he's a little hurt by so many of his best matches happening on TV, meaning they aren't as immortalized. Diamond Dallas Page vs Hulk Hogan (WCW Monday Nitro 10/27/97) Diamond Dallas Page vs Sting (WCW Monday Nitro 03/30/98) Diamond Dallas Page vs Bret Hart (WCW Monday Nitro 10/26/98) Diamond Dallas Page vs Sting (WCW Monday Nitro 04/26/99) Diamond Dallas Page vs Chris Benoit (WCW Thunder 05/27/99)

How do people compare Ishikawa and Ikeda? I'd put Ikeda ahead pretty handily after watching more stuff, even though I think their best matches are against each other. I guess the big difference is that Ikeda feels like Ikeda the first time I see him, while Ishikawa took a little more time to resemble the Ishikawa I know.

I like him in the 80s, but give either Uso a high profile singles match with a world champion and they probably have comparable resumes.
