I think Bobby Eaton's charisma is underrated. The guy was a great in-ring heel and is one of the best at doing flashy stuff without babyfacing himself. Charisma is important, but I really look at it as an issue of being able to get fans into your matches more than anything. He's more charismatic than someone like Finlay (outside of Europe), for example.

Kobashi's role wasn't as critical to that as Misawa's, and Taue was higher ranked on the totem pole. The KO stuff was really being done to establish Misawa as Jumbo's new rival, so Kobashi being outshined by his teammates was by design.

The two Honda/Izumida vs Hayabusa/Shinzaki tags (1/15/99 and 2/13/99) are very much worth checking out. I like the first one better but both are good.

Reviews? All over the 1991-1996 folders, but here are three random ones. Bret Hart - 8/93 MSG Bret Hart - 12/93 Coliseum Video Tenryu - 3/95 WAR

For those wondering, I will get into the 1990s a lot in this thread, but I just want to give people more of a chance to work through the 80s first.

I am blessed with a freakish memory when it comes to just about everything except taking out the garbage and locking the door behind me. So wrestling projects and holding grudges are two things that just work well for me.

I still get those stupid email forwards from dumb people I know that say things like that the Supreme Court made a "recent decision" to remove prayer from school and how awful that is. Hayes must have been on that distribution list.
  8. The way that gif is done really makes him look guilty of something.

I don't think you are. I tend to agree. But WWE wants heels that don't offend anyone, which ... yeah.

Do you agree that there's something to be said for wrestlers who can break the rules and go against conventions in a way that works? What I mean is that when you describe what a wrestler is actually doing, it shouldn't work. Yet for whatever reason, it does. I will never hold it against a wrestler if he's a tough act to follow, personally. Shows are meant to be stolen.

Haha, absolutely. That's probably why I never made it out of the middle of the card. Misawa is the manager that has trouble delegating where Jumbo trusts his team to do what he assigned.

I have been filling in lots of early 90s viewing gaps over the last week and I have to say that I really prefer the way Jumbo worked as an ace in tag matches to the way Misawa worked as an ace in tag matches. Jumbo made saves, but I have yet to see him act as heavy-handed as Misawa does when he comes in and does all the work before dragging the guy to his corner and tagging himself in. Jumbo sort of forces Taue to fight his battles, but he's incredibly supportive from the apron. Misawa is almost condescending by comparison.
  15. Just curious what puts them above Misawa & Kobashi for everyone. Is it just the difference in output since Misawa would later change partners a couple of times? Or is it more tied to how they worked as a team? What are their best matches against teams other than Misawa & ___ ?
  16. Then why was Hogan off TV for almost three months before turning?
  17. In the spring of 1996, from everything I've read, even Bischoff was at a point where he was ready to move on without Hogan if it came to that. Hogan had been out since April and Flair-Savage was showing signs of life on house shows. Meanwhile, Hogan was as difficult to work with as ever and he wasn't the consistent difference maker he was when he first showed up in WCW.
