  1. The finish to this and Rock-Mankind are far worse than anything WCW has done on pay-per-view in 1998. Austin brings out a bulldozer to dump dirt on Undertaker which takes an embarrassing amount of time to execute. The dynamic was also way off in this feud with Undertaker being put in a two-on-one spot as the heel, and Kane as Austin's unofficial tag team partner. If I didn't know better, I would think they were trying to undermine Austin. Again, they are so lucky he was so bulletproof.
  2. I couldn't even follow the angle before this match and it looked like a gigantic waste of time on pay-per-view anyway. Match is overbooked to hell too, but that's what the WWF is at this point. They got the crowd in the last few minutes, but they relied on tons of shortcuts to do it. Mankind wins with the mandible claw and appears to have won the title, but Vince reverses the decision because Rock didn't technically submit. Vince ends up eating a mandible claw but Shane makes the save from behind with a chair before getting the sock himself. Patterson and Brisco come out and suffer the same fate. That finish is the type of territory-killing stuff that would have hurt the WWF big time if they didn't have such great, once-in-a-generation stars on top that could overcome just about anything.
  3. Last few minutes of what looks to be a great match. I'm questioning whoever told us we didn't need this one in full, just the finishing stretch, because finishing stretches like this don't just come out of thin air. Oya is better than Kuroda and his delayed selling but this still looks like it's probably good in full at the very least.

Can we get threads for some of the FMW guys? Hayabusa Mr. Gannosuke Masato Tanaka Hisakatsu Oya Jinsei Shinzaki
  5. This is about half the length of their 1995-1996 matches. Oya is awesome with his matwork and unique suplexes. I've liked Hayabusa more than most in 1998 but I don't think his performance here was great. He wasn't bad or anything, but he didn't work up to Oya's level in terms of aggression. Oya does too many things for this not to be good and I love the sudden nature of the finish. I also think this is an ideal amount of time for them. But the match was missing something to put it over the top compared to other FMW matches in '98.
  6. Okay match. I don't have a ton to say about it, but it's good to see a babyface Lawler-Dundee teaming again without any dumb tension or breakups being teased. Post-match, Brandon Baxter steals Randy Hales' car. Do we even know why this guy is so angry with Hales at this point?
  7. Randy Hales says he's "divorcing" Tony Falk and no longer wants anything to do with him. Falk grabs a cake and teases throwing it at Hales but ends up smashing his own face in it in some attempt to grovel to get his job back. Memphis just imploded.
  8. RVD teases a split from Sabu to go into singles competition. Another Pulp Fiction, this one featuring Nova who teases being repackaged into a more serious wrestler. Sabu & RVD have to split up if they lose according to the Dudleys. Bubba Ray promises a clean victory. We also get the yearbook debut of Danny Doring and Roadkill.
  9. Shane Douglas now has a broken wrist. The Dudleys beat up some radio reporter who is pressing charges against them. Taz agreed to team with Douglas against the Dudleys and Sabu/RVD. The Dudleys regained the tag titles and they did another injury angle with Sabu.
  10. Poor Michael Cole is losing his voice, but Jim Ross has had his Bells Palsy attack by this point and was off of TV. Ross is actually at ringside with Lawler, showing that the commentary was done in post-production. Typical hot WWF TV main event of time that isn't really good but cuts a quick pace and keeps the crowd alive. The Corporation runs in for the DQ and handcuffs Foley to the ring ropes while Undertaker beats Austin up in the crowd. The Corporation attacks Rock while Undertaker's druids place Austin on a symbol and elevate him above the Titantron on his "symbol". This stuff is such garbage. The Undertaker is awful during this time. There is a pre-recorded Undertaker soundbyte promising to bury Austin alive, which is incredibly hokey. Why does no one rip Undertaker to shreds over this stuff?
  11. JIP as Shawn and the NAO head to the ring. It's all a SWERVE, as DX has outfoxed the Corporation.
  12. Clips of the WWF stars in London mixed in with fans shouting out catchphrases.
  13. They have been teasing that the Outlaws have left DX to join The Corporation. The returning HHH wants them to come out and explain themselves. The NAO christen themselves the New Corporate Outlaws in the standard intro, then bring out Shawn Michaels. Shawn demands an apology from HHH for gimmick infringement. HHH responds that he owes Shawn nothing, which doesn't get much pop. Shawn points out that HHH rode his coattails and that he turned HHH into a somebody when he was a nobody. Truth hurts there. HHH responds that it was him who carried Shawn's dead ass around long after he had no business being WWF champ. Shawn puts HHH and X-Pac in a match against Boss Man and Shamrock, specifically saying if the NAO get involved, so be it. Vince and Shane stand at the intro and appear to be very happy.
  14. Nash cuts off Goldberg at the pass and starts attacking Bigelow as all three men end up in a brawl pulled apart by security to close the show. While security pull-aparts made for a great visual, they pissed off fans to no end. Doing this type of crap non-main event in front of 32,000+ at the Astrodome is a mind-numbing booking choice.
  15. Clip of a movie with Roddy Piper and Burt Reynolds. Piper looks much younger in street clothes.
  16. Goldberg has said he wants to get his hands on Bigelow which angers Nash. They aren't having a match without him involved, so tonight will be a three-way dance. Already, Nash is trying to leech off of an actual hot WCW feud.
  17. Clip from Thunder of Eddy getting upset over the Rey/Juventud match being made where the winner faces Kidman at Starrcade. Eddy feels that he controls the cruiserweight title picture and he had picked Juventud for that spot. He's still upset in this interview. Silver King will be facing Rey later in the show. The LWO has no real purpose or clear mission, leaving Eddy to stumble through promos.
  18. Video recapping Hogan's history in WCW and putting over his retirement, but I don't understand the storyline purpose of this. The guy has wreaked havoc on WCW for years now. The atmosphere should be a celebratory one that he's finally gone!
  19. Scott Steiner attacked Wildcat Willie! He's the top babyface of 1998 now.
  20. Clips of Vince speaking at Oxford. The crowd there seems to love him.
  21. Kind of a weird commercial with beatniks singing the praises of Attitude. I suppose it makes as much sense as most fragrance commercials.
  22. That can't be an attempt to market to children during a time when they flatly denied they were doing anything of the sort, could it?
  23. So surreal seeing a smiling Negro Casas come down the aisle with the WWF Attitude logo behind him. There seems to have been some setup for this match. This is a fun match where fans in the arena have no idea how fortunate they are. I'd love to see Negro Casas live.
  24. Tony Falk is outside in handcuffs. Why, I have no idea. Brandon Baxter ends up attacking Randy Hales and throwing him in the trunk of his car.
  25. Samantha can walk out in high heels for their match and when she leaves, it'll be in flip flops. They treat this as this grave insult which I don't get at all. This is all about Brian saying this will be Dundee's retirement match (even though that's not really the official stip) because he is young and Dundee is old. Dundee is a little slower but still has his timing and can definitely go. I liked this match until they got into the overbooked finish, maybe more than any of the Power Pro TV matches all year. Christopher accidentally clotheslines the referee, who takes a great bump. Samantha keeps him from cheating when the ref is out and he ends up taking his own chairshot as well. Sean Stasiak runs in to break up the count and for some reason the match doesn't stop. Stasiak comes back in on Dundee's next fall attempt. This was fun but had too much booking.
