Board upgrade
In the meantime, I will find out if there are any browsers not compatible with the new board so I can share that info.

BOARD UPGRADE - REPORT ANY PROBLEMS
I see the button... but what is it, and how does it work? Allows you to more easily quote from multiple posts in a single post, without having to open several windows. You can basically just "bank" quotes for one post and they tally in the bottom right hand corner of your screen.

BOARD UPGRADE - REPORT ANY PROBLEMS
I haven't voted for anything else, so something's wrong there. People asked for "Like" to be disabled.

BOARD UPGRADE - REPORT ANY PROBLEMS
There should be the option at the very bottom of your post. Of course, I have admin permissions so I can do all kinds of stuff, so I'm not sure what your options are. But that's what it should be.

Board upgrade
The board has not had any outages since the upgrade. Is it possible that it's a browser issue?

Board upgrade
Yes, sadly, Invision deleted the subtitles on the upgrade since less than 5% of their customers were using it. They replaced it with the searchable thread tags, which are a better option in the long run, but yeah ... it's a big headache to fix. You can see the work I'm doing to fix this in the Match Discussion Archive section. Check 1990. I've edited every topic title and added tags from January through most of October. I will eventually be labeling everything on the board like this. The advantage is that we will be able to sort threads by these categories.

If you're a WON subscriber, the full story is in one of the most recently posted classic WONs. There's a little more to it than that. It wasn't specifically promotion of the match, but rather that I think the WWF may have tipped off Lloyds that Hennig was preparing for an in-ring comeback. I don't remember exact details.

Which WCW/ECW performer was most negatively effected by their companies closing?
I also wonder if Disco Inferno came just a little bit too soon, or too late depending on your point of view. The "Disco Sucks" movement of the early 80s would have made him a great heel in 1983. In 1995 when he showed up in WCW, people weren't really nostalgic for the disco era yet. By the time that could have worked, he was trying to modernize himself. I remember thinking he was a modern Honky Tonk Man at one point, but really, that's an insult to Honky Tonk Man. HTM had the convictions to see his gimmick through and didn't change with the wind. HTM taking on that gimmick would have had him pitching at-home vignettes to show how crappy his life was in his Brooklyn neighborhood when he wasn't on the dance floor. It seems like we missed some good opportunities for jokes in 1999 when Disco was Kevin Nash's friend. Nash was the king of the dated reference and now he was hanging with a guy who idolized Tony Manero. I'll try to rectify this when we walk through wrestling in 1999 later this year.

Which WCW/ECW performer was most negatively effected by their companies closing?
Wright never met his potential, but he showed such great aptitude for wrestling and improved tremendously when paired with good workers. He may not have been a star in WWE for political reasons, but I have no doubts he could have adapted to the wrestling style pretty quickly. 1995-1997 doesn't show him to be a consistently great worker or anything, but it does show him to be a quick study who would surely one day get there.

Sting really loathed that angle for how it presented him and I can't say I blame him, even though I too loved it. I think him snapping on Flair afterward was done to placate him, and who can blame the guy for wanting something in return?

And that sort of gimmick really requires tons of booking protection. Shawn Michaels was The Showstopper and his motivation was to be the center of attention and steal the show. He also wrestled his matches that way by taking big chances. I would argue that he could have presented himself as more flawed by letting his desire for attention be his downfall in some key situations, but they never really explored that. Even Dolph on this current losing streak could make it interesting by having some character flaw that he has to learn to overcome if he ever wants to reach his potential. Still, Shawn was also someone who won almost all the time.

Understanding wrestling terms
Not to pick on Angle, but I remember when he was especially green that he would throw a suplex, then he would just stand there until his opponent got up, then just throw another one. The Austin match in early '01 on RAW really stands out for that. He didn't seem natural. By that definition, that would be an example of bad (or absent) transitions.

Current WWE
This isn't just a problem for Dolph, but his motivation has never been fully defined. It's funny saying that because I think they've made more of an attempt to define his motive than they have for most. Honestly, I think you could say that for a lot of WWE personalities. Like The Wyatts are a redneck cult obviously, but their motivations for being a redneck cult within WWE are unclear. So they're a cult; why are they there? The Shield got off to a good start explaining that they were just about making sure justice was served, but they haven't touched on that in over a year, have they?

Current WWE
His name is also horribly douchey, and his gimmick is too one dimensional.

Understanding wrestling terms
I've also seen transitions defined as what wrestlers do between moves, not just a momentum shift within a match.

What are the other notable/popular wrestling message boards?
Yeah, I just wanted a good feel of what's out there. Sometimes with new posters you hear things like "Lots of people in the IWC believe Thing X, but ..." and I respond "Does anyone really believe Thing X?", and someone responds that outside of our bubble, yes they do, and that I'd be surprised. So I just want to have an understanding of the big picture, even if I'm not partaking in every corner of it.

I'm not sure if it was really a "swerve" since Flair had been a tweener for months, but I think it's in the conversation. Flair vs Nikita in the Omni in a cage. The Russians attack Flair. Dusty and the Andersons make the save. Suddenly, Dusty finds himself alone in the cage with the Andersons and they attack him. Flair gets up and it looks like he's going to leave the cage, but he decides to join in on the attack. Fans are trying to climb the cage to get to the heels. Crazy scene.

I remember his ex saying that with Dolph, sex was too "athletic". Perhaps the same rings true for wrestling.

My non-sarcastic point is that these non-specific platitudes that don't even mean anything that Great Puma uses to describe wrestlers are getting old.

I hereby nominate this as Dolph Ziggler's new entrance music:

Dolph Ziggler has heart and that's something we all have but he has more of it which makes him super cardiovascular. No one will ever mistake Dolph Ziggler for the Tin Man. In fact, you could argue that he has every missing quality that the characters in the Wizard of Oz were chasing. He's going to ease on down, ease on down the card, but he'll demonstrate that fire the entire time, showing that anyone who gets too close may get burned. You don't want to give this likely former boy scout two sticks, because who knows what might result!
