[1991-12-06-CMLL] El Dandy vs El Satanico (Hair vs Hair)
Another great match between these two. This isn't as violent as their 1990 matches, which makes sense, considering that the feud had been dormant for so long. But it's a terrific wrestling match. It isn't worked entirely like a title match, but it is wrestled in that spirit, and it's more like a title match than it is any other type of match. We do see some really interesting matwork from both guys, including this bizarre pretzel submission from Dandy I can't even describe. There's no blood. But this is a worthy addition to the series, and a great match that is completely different from both of their 1990 matches. Dandy loses his hair this time around.

[1991-12-04-AJPW-Real World Tag League] Steve Williams & Terry Gordy vs Stan Hansen & Dan Spivey
Where Hansen is above Misawa and Kawada at this point is that Hansen is going to force Doc and Gordy into a more action-packed match. It's good, but still, it's not as strong as a normal Hansen tag would be around this time. The MVC remain the world's most boring tag team, and the match isn't as good as it should be. This yearbook has really made me hate the MVC, as they seem to bring down everyone around them. Hansen going crazy with the table is fun though, and the build to the finish with the lariat on Gordy was well done. I also liked the post-match angle.

[1991-12-03-WWF-This Tuesday In Texas] The Undertaker vs Hulk Hogan
It seems weird to not even have Hogan address what happened to Savage and Elizabeth, and talk about this being the happiest day in the history of Hulkamania against the backdrop of what we just saw. The amount of choking the Undertaker can do without getting disqualified is ridiculous. I've heard praise for this match, but it's not good at all. Lots of choking and a blown criss-cross sequence with Undertaker falling for no reason. Ric Flair shows up again, but this time Jack Tunney is there to stop him. Hogan ends up hitting Flair with a chair from behind and Flair falls on Tunney. Flair tries to help Undertaker with a chair, but Taker ends up eating a chairshot. Hogan ends up throwing urn ashes in Undertaker's eyes to get the pin and regain the WWF title. But Flair pulled Tunney up just in time to see it, so there is some doubt as the show goes off the air. Great finishing stuff, and suddenly the WWF is being booked like the USWA.

[1991-12-03-WWF-This Tuesday In Texas] Randy Savage vs Jake Roberts / Interview: Jake Roberts
Jake's interview before this match is unbelievable. This was a really fun short match. I love Savage going for the ring bell after the match, as that's something that has worked for him in the past. But Jake ends up DDTing Savage twice. And he has hidden another snake at ringside and is about to repeat history when Elizabeth runs down and begs him to stop. Instead, Jake gives Savage a third DDT and taunts Liz. He ends up grabbing Liz and slapping her and I'm shocked that this didn't result in a riot. This would get a territory kicked off TV. Jack Tunney is finally out to stop all of this. Just wow. It still has the same impact now that it had 22 years ago. Jake's post-match promo takes this to yet another level, saying it felt so good to slap Liz that he should have to pay for it. He begs Savage to let him touch her again, and says he could cultivate her into something even he could want. We cut to Savage doing yet another amazing interview blaming himself.

[1991-12-02-WWF-Corpus Christi, TX] Ric Flair vs Shawn Michaels
The highlight of this is Lord Alfred Hays' explanation of the difference between a manager and Executive Consultant. This is a pretty non-descript match, but it is the first match between the two, so it's an interesting piece of trivia. Jannetty comes out to save Shawn when Perfect keeps interfering. But he ends up just rolling Shawn into the ring for Flair to pin Shawn with his feet on the ropes.

[1991-11-30-WWF-MSG, NY] Ric Flair vs Hulk Hogan
It's a match that happened so many times through the years that it sort of became run-of-the-mill by a certain point, which considering how much of a dream match this was in the 80s, seems insane. I wanted to get into this, and I do think this was a good match where both guys worked hard, but Perfect at ringside makes it feel a little cheap. Flair pins Hogan after hitting him with brass knucks that Perfect threw into the ring. Tony Garea is in to correct the record, and they end up reversing the decision, and suddenly I'm wondering if Flair vs Hogan is happening at the Sportatorium. This would have been the perfect time to give Flair a pinfall over Hogan since Hogan wasn't champ and also because they were being matched up again the next month. But it is what it is.

[1991-11-30-WCW-Saturday Night] Interview: Sting
Jim Ross interviews Sting in an empty arena. He clarifies that the knee is fine and that he will be back at 100% very soon. He has words for Rude and Luger. All the heels being thrown at Sting seems to have revitalized him in the short term. Not sure how much that means at this point, since WCW is such a mess, but he seems worthwhile again.

[1991-11-30-USWA-Memphis TV] Robert Fuller vs The Moondogs (Handicap)
Robert Fuller was supposed to be with his partner "Young Gun" today, but Young Gun couldn't make it, so Fuller will defend the tag titles by himself against the Moondogs! This is the first chronological appearance for these two. Prepare yourselves for a wild ride if you haven't seen the 1992 Yearbook. Fuller is a bloody mess pretty easily. Jeff Jarrett comes out to offer support, but can't do anything legally except offer support. Unfortunately, the Moondogs make quick work of Fuller and win the tag titles. They continue attacking Fuller after the bell, which brings Jarrett in to make the save. But he ends up getting his face gouged and bleeding everywhere too. Jarrett finally picks up a chair and runs them out of the ring. Good stuff, but it's weird to watch 1992 before 1991, because this was a feud that started off great in '92 and kept going loooonnngg past the expiration date.

El Dandy
Yeah, and I suppose that's not even unique to El Dandy. La Parka love is often seen as ironic too. It makes me wonder if Satanico not getting a WCW run was a good thing. He's probably one of the 10 or 20 best wrestlers who ever lived, and a lot of fans have never heard of him, but at least he's not perceived as a joke.

[1991-11-30-USWA-Memphis TV] Tom Prichard and Eric Embry
Pritchard is about to face Embry in a loser-leaves-town match, so this is his last chance to tell everyone who Eric Embry is. Embry quickly interrupts and Pritchard dares him to fight. Eddie Marlin is out to break things up and Embry hits him from behind as he is walking away. Marlin grabs a chair to get Embry to back off. Good segment.

[1991-11-28-WWF-Survivor Series] Interview: Jake Roberts / Interview: Randy Savage / Interview: The Undertaker
Jake's promo is too good for words. He hypes the match with the newly reinstated Randy Savage at This Tuesday In Texas. Savage delivers an appropriately awesome response himself. Then, as far as Undertaker and Paul Bearer are concerned, Hulkamania died at Survivor Series, but they are holding over the body to This Tuesday In Texas. "For the death of me, I can't figure out why Jack Tunney would make a rematch." -- Paul Bearer The WWF is hot right now.

[1991-11-30-WCW-Power Hour] Missy Does The Mail: Lex Luger & Harley Race
Missy Hyatt is beyond annoying here. I don't get WCW. Was she supposed to always be a heel unless she was feuding with Paul E. Dangerously? Luger and Race are interviewed. With Rude in the promotion, Luger seems passe now. Why are they hyping Luger/Rick Steiner AFTER the Clash? There has never been a more incompetent wrestling promotion in history.

[1991-11-29-CMLL] MS-1 & El Satanico & Pirata Morgan vs Konnan & El Dandy & Rayo de Jalisco Jr
Is there enough talent in this match to overcome Konnan (and Rayo)? Not only is the answer yes, but Konnan is actually pretty good here, mainly because he's surrounded by so many talented wrestlers, and in the case of El Dandy, he walks through quite a few doubleteam spots with Konnan that are perfect for a limited, really over guy. Los Infernales have impressed me in these trios matches enough to make me want to see a comp. And how do Dandy and Satanico show up toward the end of the year after not being around much in '91, and immediately get me more interestd in their feud being reignited than anything going on in wrestling at the time? I'm very excited about the next hair match, even if it isn't as mind-blowingly great as the one the year before. Lucha has been good but unremarkable for the most part in '91, and who knew Los Infernales were the missing ingredient all along?

El Dandy
That's what I mean. It always comes back to the Bret Hart quote. Anytime El Dandy gets praised, it is assumed that it's a joke.

[1991-11-29-AJPW-Real World Tag League] Mitsuharu Misawa & Toshiaki Kawada vs Jumbo Tsuruta & Akira Taue
All Japan from '90-'92, other than the really historic matches, didn't get nearly the attention that '93-and-on received for a long while. Also, a match like this doesn't quite stand out relative to other matches the promotion had in the decade. Good chance it's top 100, top 50 is maybe a reach, top 20 is pretty much out of the question... so there's not much reason for it to get random mentions when people talk about top matches for the promotion or one of the wrestlers. All that said it's REALLY GOOD. Really? I thought it was better than the Jumbo singles matches with Kawada and Kobashi, and all the Jumbo/Misawa singles matches except 9/1. And those are mentioned pretty frequently.

El Dandy
These comments make me sad. They seriously have no idea. Good to see Pete in the comments fighting the good fight.

[1991-11-29-AJPW-Real World Tag League] Mitsuharu Misawa & Toshiaki Kawada vs Jumbo Tsuruta & Akira Taue
Outstanding performance from Jumbo, as he looks like The Man as much as he does in any match during 1991. Working over Misawa's eye, which was already bruised coming into this, was awesome. Taue looks great doing it too, almost like a precursor to the awesome face work at the '95 Championship Carnival final. They also attacked Kawada pretty aggressively, working over his stomach and ribs. Misawa usually isn't put in a position to sell this much in tags and six-mans around this time, so him doing it here makes this seem special. And unlike the Doc and Gordy match, Jumbo and Taue are much better at giving Misawa and Kawada a few openings, so all hope never looks lost. Anyone who thinks AJ crowds don't boo wrestlers should check this out, as Jumbo and Taue both get huge boos. Kawada gets put in a position to be the savior of the team, but Jumbo is on fire tonight and cuts him off too. This got ****1/2 in the WON at the time, which was well deserved. High rating aside, I am not sure I've ever heard much talk about this match.

[1991-11-28-WWF-Survivor Series] Interview: Ric Flair
Ric Flair gloats about his interference (Still in his robe -- which is so weird) and does a great interview. I just wish he was in a suit.

[1991-11-27-WWF-Survivor Series] Hulk Hogan vs The Undertaker
Last few minutes. Undertaker is getting some cheers. Hogan gets the advantage and Ric Flair walks to the ring in a haste. Hogan throws a punch at Flair. Flair ends up throwing a chair into the ring that Undertaker uses to tombstone Hogan, and Undertaker wins the title in what was a big shock to me at the time.

[1991-11-27-WWF-Survivor Series] Interview: Jake Roberts
Only Jake could wear that sweater and still seem like a badass. They talk about now reptiles not being allowed at ringside. I love Jake's response to this. "I've always been the snake you should worry about."
