  1. This time, Skinner shows us the squirrel that he just killed and is about to eat.
  2. An extended feature hyping the main event. Luger and Windham do have some history they could have played off of, and it's weird that they wouldn't play on it at all. I realize that it wouldn't make too much of a difference considering how fucked over they were, but it would have been nice.
  3. Paul E. replays the Jim Herd announcement and Luger says the names may change, but his drive has not. He is going to be the world champion. I'm disappointed that he never got his big win over Flair after three years of chasing the title. Luger puts Windham over as a deserving opponent, but says the Lex Luger era is starting in WCW.
  4. I think I liked every match they had in 1990 better, but I still think this was an excellent match with two guys that were way better than their experience level would suggest, especially Waltman. Kid does an amazing dive to the floor and they do some interesting mat stuff too. Kid wins the match after hitting Lynn with brass knucks, and even does a pretty good heel interview after the match. I don't think he was ever bad, but something happened along the way, because this guy seems like the future of wrestling at this point, physique be damned.
  5. They brawl for a minute or so before the guys run in and brawl, and this all ends with Miss Texas taking a mud bath. Memphis wrestling.
  6. Lawler is out in his PWI shirt being presented with an old piece of memorabilia from someone at PWI whose name I didn't recognize. Lawler makes sure to point out he wants more USWA coverage. Lawler then gets into business with Eric Embry. Lawler vs Leatherface takes place Monday night, and is quickly interrupted by Leatherface and his chainsaw. He saws the announcer's desk and then fumbles the chainsaw for the second time on this yearbook and Lawler has to improvise. Funny moment. Lawler attacks Leatherface, and soon the locker room clears and we have ourselves a big brawl. Fun segment, and I'm really impressed at how long they've managed to prolong the big match to settle the feud with Lawler and Embry once and for all. I just wish Gilbert was still around.
  7. Referee Paul Neighbors stopped the match on Monday night because of Embry's blood loss. Embry asks for him to come out and promises not to hurt him. He says he just wants to ask some questions. He wants to know if Neighbors loves him, likes him or hates him. He also wants to know why he stopped the match. Neighbors explains that he has to watch for the well being of the wrestlers. Embry asks him why he would do that when he said he doesn't love him or like him. He requests that in the future, Paul Neighbors hate him, so that he never stops one of his matches again. And to ensure that he hates him, he decks Neighbors and starts to cut off his ponytail! Eddie Marlin pulls him off and says if Embry ever lays his hands on him, he better bring his lunch! Embry challenges Marlin and Neighbors to a hair vs hair handicap match on Monday night. Marlin ups the ante and tells Embry that he's fired if he loses. This booking is tremendous. This is one of the greatest heel promos of all time, and I say that without any exaggeration. Marlin was great too. I was completely blown away by this.
  8. Lord Alfred Hays takes us inside his head while Randy Savage lays down a cape to cover a puddle for Elizabeth. Jamison takes us inside his head while Savage reads the newspaper and talks to Liz in black and white. Heenan takes us inside his head to Savage doing the dishes while Liz screams at him to hurry up. This is funny, but so, so business exposing. Savage comes on to the set as a guest. Savage is thinking about his wedding 25 hours a day. I am always impressed by wrestlers that can live their gimmicks in any setting, and that definitely applies to Savage here. He's funny here and totally in gimmick. "A man in my position cannot afford to look ridiculous." -- Savage saying that in that outfit is awesome.
  9. Hillbilly Jim cannot sing. I agree with Heenan. The claps are also just barely not in tempo with the guitar playing.
  10. Keirn is done in Memphis. This isn't the worst gimmick I've ever seen, and I could see it eventually becoming something bigger in a perfect world.
  11. Garvin looks great here! No reason he still couldn't have been an upper midcard good hand in WCW. He's the heel in this one. I'm not crazy about one-sided matches with the other guy getting a fluke roll-up, but I do really enjoy watching Garvin do his thing.
  12. Jim Herd announces that they have not been able to come to an agreement on a contract with Ric Flair after a year of negotiation. Therefore, the WCW World title is vacant, and Flair is gone. Luger will still get a title shot at the Bash, but Herd stops short of announcing his opponent. Herd wishes Flair the best in the future. Jim Ross and Paul E. are shocked, which I think sort of goes against what they should be doing, which is playing down the significance. Later in the show, Herd announces that Luger will face Barry Windham, which might not be so bad if Windham hadn't been presented as just another guy for the better part of a year. The announcers sell excitement over that, so I will at least credit them for that.
  13. Lawler and Embry tease another brawl. Lawler isn't leaving until Embry comes back out. Things get out of hand with furniture being swung everywhere and this is a great way to hype the lumberjack match on Monday night.
  14. This is actually Jarrett/Fuller vs Samu/Dredd in a cage. Looks like a fun match, and I love the Jarrett/Fuller team.
  15. Lawler cuts a great interview, but the studio crowd is on him for some reason.
  16. Lawler vs Embry in a lumberjack match has been set up for Monday night. The only heel lumberjack is Tom Pritchard, and Embry (rightfully?) has a problem with that.
  17. This is, of course, Sabu vs RVD. It's more basic, and thus a lot more competent, than most Sabu vs RVD. RVD can't lose like that and wants a rematch. Eddie Marlin comes out and obliges his request. Intentional or not, it is funny how Dave Brown and Eddie Marlin sort of treat him like a petulant child.
  18. Elizabeth feels that the institution of marriage is a sacred bond between a man and a woman. That take might be a little more controversial today. I love Vince and Piper giving Savage a hard time about Elizabeth fawning over how tender he is, and how Savage keeps trying to play it cool but can't help himself. The crowd telling Savage to get his down on his knee to do the proposal is such an amazing reaction, and a testament to how much people loved these two together. Elizabeth says "Ohhhh Yeahhh" when Savage asks her to marry him in a classic moment. Great stuff.
  19. Austin looks good here and wins the TV title, and Jeanne, billed as Lady Blossom, has replaced Vivacious Veronica, which is a big improvement. I do think Austin in the big leagues looks a little more green than he did in the USWA, but he still looks like a guy putting it all together. Putting the TV title on him so quickly was a strong sign of confidence from Dusty.
  20. I wonder who's eating the fall here? Decent match, but clipped and forgettable. Fun for Kawada losing his cool when Ogawa bloodies his nose.
  21. This feels like a good comparison to the really great 11/93 Muto/Hase vs Hashimoto/Chono tag. I'd probably rate that one slightly higher, but this one is pretty great in its own right. I think now, while comparisons are inevitable, I don't want to focus too much on comparing this to All Japan tags, because it's not really a good comparison. This has a much bigger focus on matwork, and the strengths of the wrestlers involved are different than for the AJ4. But it's another great Hase performance in 1991, and the first time we've seen Muto and Chono really stand out this year too. Sasaki is limited, but does what he does well. This really does have the feel of four stars on the rise showing what they can do. It probably stands as one of the better matches for everyone involved. Oddly enough, I would have predicted Hase to be the biggest star of them all at the time.
  22. I'm drawing a blank on this. What was this about ? Dixie Carter told Congress TNA didn't market to children, that they market to 40-year-old virgin type collectors.

We'll be closing this fairly soon. This isn't coming out immediately, but it isn't terribly far away either. If you have anything to add, speak now or forever hold your peace.
  24. Weird that they did this stipulation randomly when Liger vs Honaga has been the focus of the division all year, but maybe they just wanted to get Benoit's mask off quickly for some reason. This was a very good match, but it also felt a little cold and tone deaf. It wasn't really as memorable as a match with this stipulation should be. I was hoping for a little more hate and desperation. I never got the feeling that they were fighting for anything more special than they normally would in any other match. There are some wild bumps from both, and the athleticism is pretty great, but the stipulation felt pretty meaningless in all of this. Liger pins Benoit with a top rope DDT, which has become his new hot finisher, and Benoit unmasks after the match.
