  1. Russo's first show was 10/18. I'm not exactly sure what Nash's last show was. I think he sort of faded out over time. I believe there was an in-between period where Kevin Sullivan and company were doing it. I don't think Nash was booking past Road Wild.
  2. I don't think The Sun itself had any significance, at least not as far as I know. They were making fun of some combination of WCW's tendency to hold up "Cheer" and "Boo" signs when filming at the Worldwide Arena, the lack of heat at Center Stage by this time and that WCW once hired models (white ones at that, because they felt they had too many black fans on television) to sit in the crowd so they could be on television.
  3. Really good tag match, again spotlighting Flair and Eaton as part of the build to the Clash. Pillman and Arn are more involved this time around than Arn and Josh were in the last tag.
  4. Here we go! It's the first Desperados vignette! There's no dialogue in this one, as they seem to be re-enacting Dirty Harry. I have no idea.
  5. Arn Anderson is this week's guest. Dusty tries to be cordial, and Arn tells him to drop it and stop avoiding the past issues between them. Dusty asks him if he'd take the opportunity to go for the world title, no matter who was the champ. Dusty is trying to goad Arn into trash talking Flair, and he won't take the bait. He takes off prematurely. Have no fear though, because Paul E. Dangerously has something to say. He wants to know what the hell Jason Hervey is doing out there, which makes him a babyface in my eyes, as I seriously hate Jason Hervey with every fiber of my being. He teases physically attacking him, but much to my chagrin, Dusty decides to play tough guy.
  6. It's the debut of JOHNNY B. BADD on the yearbook! He has the famous line that he's so pretty that he should have been born a little girl. I do have to give him credit for really committing himself to the gimmick. Paul E. taking cheapshots at Missy Hyatt while she's doing the interview is funny. I think they may be trying to imply that Teddy Long is on the DL, but it's hard to tell.
  7. Arn and Josh don't do much, as this is all about showcasing Flair and Eaton before the Clash. They look good, but not as good as they did in January of 1990.
  8. Indeed it is! One of those classically goofy vignettes that makes watching wrestling fun.
  9. Embry is out with Carl Stiles, and tells us hilariously that Miss Texas is going to teach Lawler some "etiquit". Lawler comes out and is ready to confront Embry about the weeks of trash talk, but Embry tries to back off. Carl Stiles ends up pulling Lawler off of Embry before he can throw a shot. Lawler introduces him to the King ... by slapping him in the mouth and throwing a few great punches. Embry bails. Lawler cuts a fired up promo, and while the USWA has been good in his absence, it's great to see him back in the mix.
  10. Danny Davis in a full-length match, how about that? This is really a tremendous showcase for Embry, as he's working with a lower rung guy and puts him over in a really big way. He can't seem to quite put him away, and Davis builds heat with every nearfall. Top guys working against midcarders with the midcarder making a surprise showing are my favorite type of match, and this fits that bill. Another terrific match. USWA Texas is going out with a bang!
  11. Both are wearing military gear, and the only way to win is to make your opponent "unconditionally surrender". Offensive war exploitation aside, this is a terrific match. Hogan immediately throws powder in Slaughter's eyes, which Gorilla calls "tear gas". This was a fantastic match, something not quite like any match Hogan has ever had that I've seen. Slaughter is a bloody mess and does some incredible selling. Hogan looks like the coolest guy in the world wearing the camo and throwing fireballs at those who dare disgrace America. There are times when Hogan's gimmick is artificial and entitled. Then there are times when you clearly understand that the guy was something special. This is the latter.
  12. Just to lay it on really thick, Ricky Morton is at ringside to watch his good friend Dustin Rhodes' back. Tony seems to realize how absurd it is that Morton would be in a corner with Bobby Eaton, to the point that it stops him in his tracks on commentary. I crack up that Arn really gets into the computer gimmick and starts consulting York for advice. This seems to be out of order with the previous segment, as Morton briefly talks to Alexandra then walks away from the babyfaces. Other than that, this is a pretty perfunctory tag match that got the crowd going. Dustin gets the win and looks good in this match, yet he somehow had a rep as getting a ridiculous, undeserved push at the time.
  13. "Voodoo Doll ... what does it do? It do VOODOO!" -- Dusty Rhodes in the quote of the year One Man Gang and Kevin Sullivan are the guests. Sullivan and One Man Gang are the guests. Dusty acts like a blithering idiot. Jason Hervey is poking at OMG's leg on the voodoo doll, and OMG is selling it! Dusty immediately assumes that the problem is indigestion before OMG collapses when Hervey sticks a pin in the doll's butt. WCW.
  14. Ricky Morton is a guest of Paul E., as rumors are abound that Morton has been recruited by the York Foundation. Paul E. wants info, but the York Foundation shows up before he can get out a word. Alexandra offers Morton "the most lucrative deal of your career". Dustin comes out and wants to know what Morton is doing. He tells him he'll make the right decision.
  15. Embry turns his attention to the returning Jerry Lawler, and I stand corrected on any previous Embry criticism. He's had a ton of heat put on him so Lawler can be the savior.
  16. Clips of a match from Mid South Coliseum, which actually looks pretty great. After the match, Doug attacks Embry and Tojo with a Texas flagpole when they try to doubleteam him. Embry is about to sneak attack Doug when he's going after Tojo, but Eddie shows up and does a number on Embry. Tom Pritchard hits the ring and throws a few punches before pulling the heels out of the ring.
  17. Miss Texas gets in Lawler's face when he saves a jobber from being hung by a rope. Lawler and Texas have a shouting match, with Lawler telling her their rear ends will make her a Sunday face! She threatens to slap him, and he says if she does, she'll slap the taste out of his mouth. She slaps him ... and he slaps her. Well, ok. The announcers immediately start covering for Lawler, pointing out that he was provoked. Lawler was always a little too quick to attack women.
  18. Jimmy Hart announces that he has formed the mother of all tag teams -- Earthquake and Andre the Giant. Quake and Andre size each other up before shaking hands. Andre reveals that he has not signed with Jimmy Hart and has a laugh before Earthquake sneak attacks him and works over his leg. I guess Jake isn't getting revenge for Damian's death, as he seems to be moving on to other things now.
  19. It's the debut of Virgil's sister Virgilina. The less said about this, the better.
  20. Breaking this up into two singles matches, I see the problem now. In 1991, Steve Williams was just really, really, really boring.
  21. After being down on the Misawa/Kawada vs Williams/Gordy tags, I wasn't expecting much here, but this I enjoyed. Gordy bleeds early, then the match becomes a series of big moves and nearfalls. There wasn't much more to it than that, but it was different from the usual bland matwork, so I was entertained.

  23. This was much better than the more heralded match than Starrcade in Tokyo, I think primarily because of Rick and Hase, who both looked great. This had all the crazy power spots of the Dome show match, and better structure. That's not to say it doesn't have some problems of its own, but it's better than similar matches the Steiners had that are more famous. I thought it smoked Superbrawl.
