None of the Taijiri matches are yearbook worthy except the one Dylan recommended. The rest are clipped, although they do appear to be good. Even the 60-minute draw was clipped. Only 20 minutes of it aired on Samurai TV, and it's good wrestling, but nothing to get excited about.
  8. He was also behind on paying everyone. It wasn't going to last.
  9. Put it this way: they would have sold to Turner months earlier if they could have reached an easier agreement with TBS on who was responsible for their debts. A big chunk of that was the purchase of the UWF.

Yes. I just sorted out my Top 100. I really want to do comments on each one this time, so I'm going to start posting them incrementally.

  12. This is an alternate video to "Two Hearts". Warrior gets impatient trying to learn the choreography and starts beating Phil Collins up. Gilbert Gottfried is also part of this. This looks like studio match, or should I say a su-su-studio match. I kill me. We wrap up with Phil Collins concert footage and with that, 1990 is all done.
  13. A fan wants to know what training program Paul Orndorff uses to stay in such great shape. He says he stays away from drugs and alcohol, and tries to eat the right foods. He suggests doing about 3/4 of his peak weight instead of pushing himself to the maximum every day. I just recapped that for some reason, yet I don't want to talk about Liger/Casas. Yes.
  14. Albano tells Tolos he is going to keep his eye on him. Tolos yells about it. Quite the screaming match. Albano starts blowing his whistle. They are hyping a New York show.
  15. Dusty talks about how proud he is of Dustin. Dustin is still doing the same voice as Dusty. Blood is thicker than water, baby. Dusty is doing the best promos of his WWF run just as he's about to leave.
  16. I like Flair's match with Zenk earlier in the year better, but this is a good one. This one is carried by Arn, so I guess that's a sign that Zenk was carryable when working with a top opponent. I love leg injury fakeout, as Arn stretches it out past the point of most spots like that, and it's almost believable until he swerves him that he's really hurt. Arn works over Zenk's back like clockwork. The story here is that Arn is trying to keep a really slow pace to work the clock, and Zenk is having to stay on offense and work a faster pace in the hopes of getting a win within the 20-minute time limit. He pins Arn after a missile dropkick. Arn did a great job of making him look good.
  17. This is a recap of the Freebirds/Rock & Roll Express feud from earlier in the year, which only aired on the non-Chicago version of Pro. The Freebirds and Lance Russell hosted that version of Pro, which I vividly remember being a great combo every week. There is some funny stuff included in this. I'm too burned out on posting to recap this at this point, so someone else can do it. But we get the legendary appearance of Charles and Lido, apparent poor immigrants that Lance Russell hired to impersonate the Freebirds in a video where they were caught paying people off to pretend to be their fans. Michael Hayes even accuses Lance Russell of pedophilia. I remember Charles and Lido hosting a full episode of Pro in 1991 when the Freebirds were "on tour".
  18. Austin Idol claims that he is getting more headlines than Saddam Hussein and that he's in all the tabloids. I understand heels who lie and exaggerate, but come on. He talks about his bedroom eyes and sultry lips. He talks about his prospects for 1991, and he's much more optimistic about his chances than I am. Idol messed up the dates in his promo, so Gilbert corrects him before going on a tangent about New Years celebrations, Jerry Lawler, Bam Bam Bigelow and Memphis being his town now. He is on fire!
  19. Lawler sort of explains my questions from the way the previous match was set up. We then cut to a taped promo of Bam Bam Bigelow. He said he didn't get the "Beast From The East" nickname flipping tiddlywinks.
  20. Lawler is participating in a cash giveaway for a fan when Gilbert and Austin Idol jump him. Bam Bam Bigelow finally make the save and we have ourselves either a scheduled match or impromptu brawl. I can't really tell. Highlights of the match, which looks good, but not as good as some of the Gilbert/Dirty White Boy tags from earlier in the year. The call back to the ringpost crotch spot from the Lawler vs Rich/Idol feud in '87 is a nice touch. The match falls apart when Idol accidentally slugs the ref, then decides to do it again. Wrestlers swarm the ring in an attempt to restore order. They booked this to be chaotic, but the match appears to have been worked at half-speed, if the clips are any indication.
  21. "Wanted" posters with Eddie Gilbert's name has been plastered everywhere. A $50,000 bounty has now been put on Gilbert! Gilbert blames Lawler. He insists it's not him that put the bounty on Lawler's head. He is very unhappy about this, and says he knows that Lawler will deny that he had anything to do with it when everyone knows the truth. Eddie Gilbert is my favorite interview at this point, and I am really intrigued by where this angle is going.
  22. Saddam Hussein did not invade Kuwait. He conquered Kuwait. The heat is through the roof here. I'm viewing this through a post-9/11 lens, but wow, this would have created a major and *real* "security risk" in 2002-2003. He opens a gift from Saddam -- a new pair of wrestling boots with an Iron Sheik-like hook on the end. He says after beating the Ultimate Warrior, he will hold a parade in Baghdad. Slaughter is great in this role, but this is unbelievably tasteless.
  23. Ted DiBiase cuts this promo while Virgil gives him a massage. He forces Virgil to massage his toes, and you can tell Virgil has a problem with it. This feud was built up so well.
  24. Excellent match. It's nice to see Piper back in the ring. Perfect has been a bump machine all year, but what put this over the top as a match and performance was his selling. The bumping had a logic and progression to it that made sense, instead of just being for show. There were some great nearfalls down the stretch of this too. I would have liked a real finish, but this is a Roddy Piper WWF match. This deserves a more complete write-up sometime when I'm not getting burned out.
