  1. I thought this was a solid match. Bockwinkel looked really good, and Saito continues to impress. They worked awfully snug and made all the exchanges look like a struggle.
  2. Lou is in pretty great shape for a 74 year old. On here for curiosity purposes and historical value more than anything else. Interesting clip.
  3. I have no idea why Casas is wearing that outfit. Liger's black and gold combo is really cool. Fun match with some great highspots from both. I would have expected Liger to have more GREAT stuff in 1990 than he has, but really, the Sano match and the first Benoit match are the only two that have hit that level. I think '91 will have more.
  4. A fan writes in to ask Captain Lou if he thinks Bruno is under any threat of being attacked. Captain Lou doesn't think so. Everything this guy does makes me laugh.
  5. They are hyping a Larry Z/David Sammartino feud. I want to laugh at how stuck in the past this promotion is, but I suppose it's no worse than anything Eric Bischoff has been a part of in the last few years.
  6. Louie Spicolli is being billed as Cutie Pie. Lou Albano asks him why he doesn't use his real name. Spicolli's response? "You have rubber bands on your face." This whole segment is Spicolli going on about how cute he is. He's the human version of Nermal! This is really funny.
  7. Don't turn your back on Paul Orndorff, Doc. He will hurt you.
  8. The Orndorff/Doc feud continues. We don't have a wrestling match ahead of us. We have a fight.
  9. Highlights of Starrcade recapped by Gordon Solie. We close out with Sting and Flair cutting promos. Sting said Flair accomplished one thing -- he made him feel sick inside. But ... he didn't get the job done. Flair tries to make sense of things, saying he's really going to haunt Sting until he's a seven-time champ. This is the first appearance of Flair with his new haircut. Other than that, he's himself, and it's good to see him back in the main event scene.
  10. Tom Zenk has had 45 straight victories (Wha???) and next week, he gets a TV title shot against Arn Anderson. First of all, that's ridiculous, and second, since when does it take 45 wins to get a TV title shot? Arn quickly interrupts. Paul E. tells him not to cause trouble, and Arn tells him not to tell him what he can't do. Arn does a fabulous job of putting over Zenk's recent accomplishments while also making clear that Arn intends to hang on to that title for his life. Fantastic.
  11. Here I was thinking we were done with the Rip Rogers run. I'm not complaining one bit. This is much better than the WCWSN match, as Taylor does a better job of holding up his end. Both guys work really hard and take some big bumps. Rogers falls over the guardrail and back. Really fun to see an undercard match this heated with both guys working so hard. Rip in particular wrestles like everything is at stake with the result of this match, which is very cool.
  12. Cory Maclin! What scares Lawler the most about Gilbert is that when he looks at Gilbert, he sees himself. "I am the new you!" Great stuff.
  13. Cornette is in Memphis! Cornette thinks Lawler knows Gilbert is the one who put the bounty on him, which contradicts what Lawler just said. Cornette announces that he is returning to Memphis, along with the Fabulous Ones, to help watch Jerry Lawler's back. He promises to neutralize Sam Bass. This is a cool twist, and it's fun to see Cornette in a new environment.
  14. Great clips of Lawler through the years to Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead Or Alive", which is a great song choice for a guy with a bounty on his head. The best Lawler music video of the year.
  15. There is a bounty on Jerry Lawler. $50,000 to anyone who can end this career. No one knows who put it on him. Lawler actually believes Gilbert when he says he isn't the one that put the bounty on him. There are a lot of returning wrestlers looking to collect the bounty. Austin Idol is one of them. Lawler says he's easy to find and will take on all comers. Will be interesting to see this play out in 1991, as I don't remember the reveal at all.
  16. Dusty still got plenty of focus, which is interesting. He has given up on the polka dots for a little while now. Talking about the evils of money and stuff. I enjoyed it.
  17. I think they did all that they could do to salvage it, although Luger would have been a more interesting reveal.
  18. The Mountie harasses an American citizen traveling in Canada.
  19. This is an interesting match, if only to see Flair work nearly a half hour and try to work against every Ric Flair instinct. The end result is not a good match by any means, but I'm sure that was pretty difficult to pull off. As for the payoff, what a waste. I think it says it all about Sting that the crowd was chanting for Luger as soon as the Horsemen hit the ring. Sting only won here because he asked to at least win the blowoff of the feud before they shifted the title back to Flair, since the Black Scorpion program had bombed so horribly. What an embarrassing wrestling promotion. They are lucky they were in a great wrestling town, because Philly, for example, would have completely shit on all of this. This is pretty much the end of Ole Anderson's booking. In 1991, we have the return of Dusty Rhodes to that spot.
  20. When Dave asked the question of who he could have from any other promotion on Wrestling Observer Live if he had his pick, Jim Ross specifically said Benoit. This was almost three months before they jumped. Benoit was also the hardest pushed right out of the gate. Saturn would have been the one to get the pinfall over The Rock his third week in if he was the one they were excited to get.
  21. One thing I've seen pop up from time to time is that so many people never saw the NWA in the 1980s, but watched the WWF. I don't mean they were selectively choosing not to watch the NWA in most cases. It's usually more that people say they didn't have access to it. I feel like I need explanation on this. Even if there was no syndication, wouldn't TBS be in every household with cable? And I realize not everyone had cable then, but I don't hear people saying the same thing about Prime Time Wrestling or TNT, which were on the USA Network. Was USA available through more cable companies than TBS in the early days? It's just something I want to understand, because I think it's interesting. The WWF's syndication was excellent and probably a big key to their success, so that's a topic worth exploring too -- the tactics Vince used to ensure that the WWF was available in just about every market while for whatever reason, JCP couldn't break through. I believe promoters had to buy time back then, so that may be all there is to it. Crockett's mindset behind purchasing the UWF was I believe entirely to expand his syndication to all of these new markets. But the company was not at all prepared to expand, which is a shame. There were some booking problems for sure, but I wonder if the bigger problem with JCP was that the promotion itself was pretty mismanaged.
  22. Well, Percy Pringle actually looked like an ugly woman, while Brother Love looked like a guy in a dress, so I gotta go with Percy Pringle.
