  1. Last few minutes. The Steiners win the tournament when Rick pins Saito. They have a really great post-match celebration.
  2. Great match! This has always been a favorite of mine, and it amazes me how much they fit into such a short match. Great brawling, suplexes and piledrivers, with lots of blood, punches and a hot crowd. I always mark out for cut-up t-shirts and kneepads over jeans too. What's not to love? Perhaps the best sub-10 minute match ever.
  3. I don't know why I didn't expect much, but this was really good. It was laid out very well. Luger took some stiff shots from Hansen and his stuff looked good too. The finish was really well done, with Luger hitting the fourth corner at the same time as a ref bump, and them teasing a Hansen victory. Very good match. I want to go back and watch their Halloween Havoc match now.
  4. Windham and Arn are out to hype the street fight later while they recap Flair being kidnapped. I still can't believe they hyped a PPV match around Ric Flair being missing and didn't go WAAAAAYYYY over the top with it.
  5. REY MISTERIC! That's what the graphic says and that's what Jim Ross calls him before he realizes he was wrong and corrects himself. Adams gets a big pop. A pretty sloppy match, but interesting to see Chris Adams so over with this crowd.
  6. Last few minutes. The Freebirds run in for the DQ and attack Morton and Rich until Vader appears at ringside. But Vader turns babyface! He clears the ring of the heels and is united with Ricky Morton and Tommy Rich in a very odd team. I don't think this turn was ever followed up on.
  7. Ted DiBiase is the special guest ring announcer, buying off Howard Finkel. DiBiase helps Hennig win the IC title, and the heat is on DiBiase, even though he was finishing a feud with Dusty and would then go right into a feud with Virgil. Not a criticism, just an observation. In fact, I've noticed that DiBiase has more heat put on him than just about anyone in the WWF.
  8. I'M NOT A TOUR GUIDE. I'M THE MOUNTIE. The inflection of his voice is completely different than it would be.
  9. The Undertaker's first television appearance. Brother Love managing him and the roses being spread over the jobber after the match are a creepy touch. They definitely made him seem scary from the very beginning.
  10. Paul E. accusing Jim Ross of being the Black Scorpion on commentary makes me laugh. Paul E. responds by blaming Solie. We get another voiceover match. This time, a woman in the audience attacks Sting. This is too much.
  11. Hate is a virtue. This didn't let me down. It was everything I hoped it would be from the two best wrestlers in the world. It had all the blood and excitement I was expecting, and it was cool to see this side of Dandy in a singles match, since his other singles matches that I've seen have all been mat clinics. This was a magnificent display of violence. The October match was one that had something for everyone. This one has a very specific audience in mind -- those who want to see Dandy and Satanico get mean and nasty. And on that promise, they overdeliver. The final stretch of nearfalls is possibly the best I've ever seen in lucha libre, and the finish is an absolutely brilliant moment of payback for Satanico. He managed to keep his hair earlier in the year, but he wouldn't be so lucky this time. Another classic for both guys.
  12. Heenan points out that Savage spends more than anyone in the WWF on ring attire, which is probably true. I think Savage has gotten Warrior's attention.
  13. Minami bleeds pretty badly to wrap up the first fall. I was excited to see a shorter match than usual in this style, but I realized why they usually give them so much time, as this feels awfully rushed. This is a good match, and Hokuto has improved even since January, but it feels like it's missing something. I like Minami and I'm looking forward to her singles match with Hokuto in '91.
  14. Wrong match. This is Toyota/Yamada vs Mita/Shimoda, it looks like. Don't really feel like watching that one right now.
  15. Paul E. Dangerously interviews Michael Wallstreet and Alexandra York. They are pushing this gimmick hard. He badmouths his Starrcade opponent Terry Taylor. Taylor quickly interrupts, and I'm pretty sure he said he was "shittin' in the back" and he heard the trash talk. They do have a nice little brawl, but I can't think of a match I'd rather not see. Even a decent brawl like this can't make me change my mind.
  16. The string of excellent Rip Rogers matches wraps up with another strong match against Brian Pillman. Short and high impact. There is more Rogers on the '91 yearbook, including a longer match against Pillman.
  17. I love that Funk makes it a point to say he'll take on anyone, regardless of their ranking. Flair snubbing him really bothered him, and he's not going to do that to someone else, damnit! Fun promo.
  18. Christmas night in Nashville -- Eddie, Doug & Tommy Gilbert vs Jeff Jarrett, Bill Dundee & Eddie Marlin. Sounds like a blast! Eddie Gilbert is on SUCH a roll. He is tremendous in every segment he's in.
  19. Downtown Bruno is great on commentary. Gilbert doesn't want to do this match, but is sort of forced into it. This is given lots of time and even goes through a commercial break, but is more a great segment than a great match. There is a lot of stalling and rolling out of the ring between moves, but it's well done. This is a HOT studio crowd, and the match had lots of crowd-pleasing spots. Steve Keirn eventually comes to the ring and sides with the babyfaces to help clear Gilbert's stooges out. The crowd is very happy to see him back. Great stuff.
  20. It probably would be. It's a shame, as the Rock & Rolls and Bodies gave them a heck of a show. I respect that you prefer WWF tags because it's what you grew up watching. It's a perfectly valid reason to like something better than something else. Thanks for saying that.
  21. Honky Tonk Man has been added to the broadcast booth. Dustin Rhodes is the guest this week. Before he can say a word, Ted DiBiase and Virgil are out as additional guests, much to Dustin's surprise. DiBiase insults Virgil for the first time, so they are doing the slow build to their breakup now. He wants to put aside their differences and make Dustin an offer. He wants to buy him because he thinks he has potential. Dustin slaps the money out of his hand and gets doubleteamed. Texas Tornado finally makes the save, almost decking Brother Love.
  22. More Black Scorpion audio coming from nowhere in particular. He calls Sting to the ring and Sting does so, and wanders around the ring like an idiot trying to find him. This time, someone comes out of the crowd and tries to attack him. The audio is low for this.
  23. The final match -- not the finals -- (see jdw, I'm learning ) of the tag league. I suspect this match is still going on. God, this was long. It was an okay match, but I don't think Doc ever really had the stuff to go this long, much less in 1990, and Hansen, Spivey and Gordy would have benefitted from a shorter match too. This didn't do much for me, but might have had it not just kept going and going.
  24. He had a lot of personal issues, and I think WWE felt he should have come out of the Jericho/Michaels feud a star, though he didn't.
