  1. He's back. And looking like Joe Biden.
  2. Decent throwaway match. They're caught talking on camera a few times. Luger has Arn in the rack when Flair and Sid run in to attack Luger. JYD and Sting quickly make the save.
  3. Both Sting and Ric Flair are guests on The Danger Zone. I used to hate it when WCW would say they've signed rematches without saying when and where. Sting does mention The Meadowlands at the end, but it's an afterthought. Flair is still going through a hair crisis, and this is one of his weaker promos. He seems a little off. Sid and Arn show up at the very end for no real reason.
  4. I was excited for this, and it definitely had the typical Vader brutality, but I was hoping for more offense from Choshu. He didn't even really start teasing comebacks until the last few minutes of the match, so this felt too one-sided. Choshu rallying a comeback of lariats is one of my favorite things in wrestling, and getting that for the finish was awesome. I was just hoping for something more high octane from beginning to end. But what do I know, he won the IWGP title!
  5. Terrific match. Liger's highspots look great, as you'd expect, but the early punishment he took on the mat was actually my favorite part of this. The dropkick/armdrag stuff at the beginning felt like a very American way to start a match, which just emphasized to me how much Liger really could have gotten over in the U.S. if he was used more. Benoit wins the match and the IWGP Jr title after a sloppy top rope legdrop, but that doesn't really take anything away from the match.
  6. Well, this was pretty fantastic. Bull is so protected as the top dog, and Aja throws everything she has at her - her best offense and even weapons - and it barely makes a dent. Kimura and Iwamoto aren't central to the story of the match, but they work hard and add value, taking some big bumps and punishment. This is a bloody, hate-filled brawl with top notch action, selling and heat. My #2 MOTY at this point. Just a war in every way possible. I really want to see the Aja/Bull singles matches coming up now, and all the post-match screaming at each other only magnifies that.
  7. This is all centered around Toyota going after Hokuto's bad knee. Hokuto doesn't really sell the impact of what Toyota is doing to her as much as she should, which is a weird complaint to make about the performance of one of the best sellers in wrestling history. Doing the somersault dive from the apron to the floor took me out of this when I was really in the match before that. There were lots of good things about this match, but Hokuto made a terribly anti-climatic comeback by dragging a hold and sitting in it, and they didn't really exploit the emotion as much as they could have, and as a result, Hokuto never really seemed like she was in that much danger. It's interesting that FLIK saw this as non-stop action, because they laid on the mat quite a bit in the middle, although the final stretch was about as good of a spotfest as you'll ever see.

I think taking a hit on the WM buyrate - as that lineup is missing some of the dream match potential betwen big names of the glory days - to lay groundwork for making some of the guys who are over bigger stars is worth it.
  9. Lawler calls in to talk some trash to Terry Taylor. He makes a point of calling him the ex-Red Rooster, and says that he should have made it to the top of pro wrestling, as he had all the potential in the world, but people like Akbar are able to get inside his head. Taylor, who seems motivated to cut a real promo for the first time in a few years, tears into Lawler.
  10. Austin and Jeanne do a pretty meandering pre-match interview. They do their typical jobber abuse after the squash, and Austin says there will not be a Pillsbury match. Adams, Jeanne and Chris Von Erich run them off.

How about Punk/Bryan again with the roles reversed and Bryan going over? Brock/Ryback, Undertaker/Ambrose (with The Shield at ringside to run interference), Rock/Cena and if HHH working the show is inevitable, he could work Ziggler. Your odd people out at that point are Orton, Del Rio, Sheamus, Show and Kane.
  12. Where are the WWF road agents to tell Jarrett that "Ak" is your friend, and "General Skandor Akbar" is the USWA superstar? Jarrett is going after Akbar in the ring. Gary Young comes in and they have a brawl, but Jarrett gets the better of him. He's about to give Akbar a piledriver when TERRY TAYLOR, fresh off of leaving the WWF, shows up and attacks Jarrett. Good stuff. This is all to set up Lawler/Jarrett vs Young/Taylor, which sounds like a fun match to me! Oh, Pringle with his "I see what you did there"-style comments. "No one can call Terry Taylor a chicken." Falcone and Brown (as babyfaces?) try to make the save, but fail. The beatdown continues a long time and culminates with a spike piledriver.
  13. Chris and Toni seem to be back together. I'm not sure if there was a bridge angle to make things right between them or not. The next Austin/Adams match will be Marquis of Queensbury with penalty box rules. That's an interesting combination.
  14. Lawler has been reinstated in Dallas thanks to Jeff Jarrett. Akbar has announced that Gary Young will have a mystery partner to team with Gary Young when Lawler returns to team with Jeff Jarrett. Lawler reminds Akbar that he can throw all the surprises at him he wants, but it won't deter him from his goal of taking out Akbar. This would have been a fun feud, but the USWA is about to lose TV on KTVT because of the man-on-woman violence, and Kevin Von Erich is about to make a power play to force Jerry Jarrett out of the territory.
  15. As always, really good match between these two teams. Bobby Eaton is just fantastic in 1990. he takes some ridiculous bumps on the arena floor and I love the backbreaker combo he does. They really get the crowd hot too, working over Pillman's neck, with Cornette taking shots at his throat with the racket. The finish is weird with Sid running in to attack everyone. Sid was doing this weird feud thing with Bobby Eaton at this point that has sort of been forgotten about, with both staying heels. Really good before the finish. Ole's booking has been pretty bad.
  16. They cover the "Southern tag team championship" three-match series, a title totally made up by the Frebirds that they started telling everyone they won in Tupelo, MS. The outfits Hayes and Garvin were wearing during this time are probably the ugliest things you'll ever see. Hayes was also wearing makeup, which was running completely down his face. How bizarre, to quote OMC. We close out with a Confederate green screen promo from the Southern Boys vowing revenge.
  17. The Stud Stable at this point is Fuller, Matt Borne and the Nasty Boys. Robert Fuller has become one of the people I look forward to seeing the most on yearbooks because he's such a great talker. They bring out "Luther", whoever that is, who has one of the strangest hairstyles I have ever seen. Fuller offers a Stud Stable contract and asks this black wrestler "Can you read, boy?" then completely backtracks when called on it, saying he didn't mean it like that. Fuller then breaks out the guitar and plays a nice little song. He's doing the Roy Orbison-style crooning!
  18. They show a clip from last week on Superstars - which I really thought from memory happened on SNME - where Kerry challenged Perfect for the IC title at Summerslam. The crowd doesn't really react much, probably because he wasn't put over enough first. I laughed that they gave him one very short line when he came in front of the crowd. His promo style at the end of the segment is so different than his usual style that it's obvious he was very coached. I hate so much that they're calling him Texas Tornado.
  19. This was a great six-man tag! Misawa getting the best of Jumbo seems to have led to everyone stepping up their games in different ways. Kawada takes it to Jumbo pretty aggressively and even on the opposite side, Taue is the one that secures the win for his team. But this is a great coming out party for Kikuchi. He gets over big with the crowd for taking the fight to Jumbo, even when he's clearly overmatched. Jumbo getting frustrated with all of these punks coming after him is glorious. Misawa and Kawada are throwing everything at him, and when Kikuchi starts doing the same, he finally snaps and takes his head off with a big boot. Kikuchi is over strong enough that by the end of this match, he gets two really close calls on Taue, a guy who is much bigger than him with more seniority. Taue finally beats him after an atomic drop/belly-to-back suplex combo, but he couldn't do it easily. Everyone looks really good in this, as roles are still being established and this is all very fresh.

Why are you always so angry at everyone? Chill out.

I think it would work well too. I'm not sure they'd go that route, but Undertaker in the Walking Tall role is the best use of him now. I could see them thinking a tag match may dilute him. Still, I have no idea how they're going to get Sheamus, Ryback, Ziggler, Bryan, Kane, Show, Del Rio, Orton, Cesaro and the returning Mark Henry in good spots on the show if they are dead set on doing HHH/Brock, Punk/Taker and Rock/Cena as the top three matches. Matt, Austin had recent knee surgery, and also decided it doesn't make sense for him to do his comeback on a show that also has a Rock match. I agree with that too. If Austin's going to return, it really needs to be the single biggest thing on the show.
