  1. I'll talk more about this one when the time comes, but this is an incredible match. It's not clipped actually, it's just short. But it's probably the best sub-five minute match of all time. Lawler and Snowman do some non-cooperation spots to make it look like this match has turned into a shoot and the crowd is eating it up. The double leg takedown followed by strikes and jockeying for position really makes this feel like something out of UWFI. You don't typically see an American crowd ooh and ah for every single punch, but they make them look good enough and work the match smart enough that they get exactly that reaction. It's more the crowd reaction for a fight than a wrestling match. This will be a really fun one to rewatch, and it's one of the things I'm most excited about everyone seeing. I didn't watch the other Lawler/Snowman matches on this set yet, but I did glimpse at them enough to know that they are worked in a similar style. Looking forward to catching it all.
  2. I was about to tell you I don't, then I remembered this is my board. Genuinely funny moment.
  3. This was a pretty rare match. Obviously, the VQ isn't too hot, and it didn't really get into circulation much until about six years ago when a bunch of existing lucha was transferred to DVD. That's when the praise started.

I didn't get nearly as much wrestling, but still fun to talk about wrestling habits at the time in the context of this thread. My wrestling watching began on Friday nights, when TBS ran the Power Hour at 9:05 Central. Saturday mornings, I'd get up at 10:00 and watch Pro in syndication, which was hosted by Lance Russell and the Freebirds in my market. Sometimes, I'd catch the Chicago version on WGN, which sometimes had overlap with the syndicated version and sometimes didn't. Right after that, WWF Superstars came on. I had a wrestling drought until 5:05, when World Championship Wrestling came on TBS, and again until 9:00, when World Wide Wrestling came on in syndication. Sundays had All American Wrestling on USA at 11:00 and Main Event on TBS at 5:05. WCCW Legends aired each weekday right after school on ESPN, with AWA getting the time slot on Monday afternoons. So that was always my afterschool show. On Monday nights, I'd watch Prime Time Wrestling, but even then, got bored with it and tuned out sometimes. A syndicated version of USWA TV a few weeks behind would air inconsistently in different time slots on and off for a couple of years. Clash of the Champions was an EVENT, and something I looked forward to for weeks. My favorite wrestlers were Lex Luger and the Steiners, with Sting, Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, the Midnight Express and the Road Warriors somewhere in the mix too. I didn't have a PWI subscription, but I did typically pick up one of the Apter mags each month at some point.

I would recommend starting here. It's the beginning of the decade, and walking to it will probably make you appreciate '94 even more when you get there. Just my opinion.

It's official! Everyone knows where to look. A folder has been opened and threads have been started for all ... ahem ... 918 segments on this thing.
  9. On the surface, there is no reason Ric Flair vs Rick Rude should not have been the most awesome thing ever. It was hardly that. They should have been stealing women from each other, having drinking contests and brawling every week. Instead, it was played for cheese.

Can you feel it? Be on the lookout!
  11. I'm going to check some stuff out, but I'm interested in Tanahashi. Some people love him and some people don't like him at all. I don't even know what he's like as a wrestler. Can someone explain? Like I said, I will watch, but I'm curious what to expect.
  12. Well, Minoru Suzuki was awesome last time I saw him in 2005-2006, so that doesn't surprise me.
  13. I need to catch up on some New Japan from the last 1-2 years. Even if Dave is overrating it, I'll be happy if it's solid.
