What, that it's Kane's mask AND wig?

Jonathan Coachman vs Goldberg (Raw 1/26/04 - No DQ match that's effectively Henry vs Goldberg)
  3. I think it's fairly obvious they're hoping Viacom does what they did with Bellator and buys out the Carters. But with five and a half months of arena bookings they have to stick to while they're bleeding so much money? Eek.

I have never, ever seen anything live at a WWE event like the Punk-Heyman/Lesnar segment before. Real, scornful heat for Heyman, ridiculously passionate cheers for Punk when Heyman pulled the "you don't have a family, you just have THESE PEOPLE" card to reassure him they loved him, and completely molten heat for the Punk-Brock brawl. I've been to some pretty big shows including all-time WWE highlight reel moments like the Rock-HHH ladder match and Taker-Punk at Mania this year, but I'd never experienced a "you can cut the tension with a knife" moment like that whole segment was tonight. It could not have gone any better and it was a spectacular start to the SummerSlam build.
  5. It's becoming obvious they're having Lawler fill time with so much of the best talent in the territory in Dallas taping the KTVT show, but this is fun.
  6. I expected to like this as a big Rockers and Barbarian mark but this was outstanding. Jannetty's high elevation bumps were completely psychotic. This reminded me just how well the Rockers' teamwork was put over; from a kayfabe perspective it seems ridiculous that they were so rarely in the title picture.
  7. No, it was a perception thing. At least in the more modern example with Joe it was common to hear NJPW felt NJPW had "the stench of Zero-One" or "the taint of Zero-One" or something like that. I talked to TJ Perkins about it a fair bit in the recent podcast we did. It definitely goes back to at least the beginning of the modern Indy era in Japan: As Pete alluded to, some of the USWA guys who toured with W*ING in '91 killed legit All Japan prospects that they had on the table. Obviously there are exceptions, like Gladiator (came in during AJPW/FMW relationship), Sabu (in demand cult star), Jericho (came to NJPW via WCW), but Lozansky isn't exactly the type of guy they'd make exceptions for.
  8. Really good match. You can sort of see how Anjoh was the best shooter of the group as he looks like the more learned martial artist since he threw in stuff like the Thai clinch as opposed to just worked catch wrestling plus kicks and palm blows.
  9. Excellent match! Tenryu is amazing here. Loved the ways they gave Fuyuki credible near falls, like cradling Jumbo when Tenryu enzuigiri-ed him as he hit the ropes. Very clever finish with a well-executed post-match angle. The mask is such an albatross for Misawa at this point, though.
  10. The match and angle that made me a Cactus Jack fan. Actually pretty tame by Lee Scott standards, in hondsight. Wish Scott's promo was on here, though.
  11. The best thing about Lawler's racist jokes is the cognitive dissonance of the predominantly black studio audience who cracks up at all of them.
  12. "That steroid freak Steve Austin!" Lawler with a mullet is just...wrong. For me, the highlight was: Brown: "She says it's Christy Brinkley." Lawler: "Hi girl!"
  13. Lawler draws out the punchline so much I wonder how much was his stock jokes and how much was adlibbed.
  14. Love this. In the video, Travis takes the highest back bodydrop I've ever seen him take, which says a lot.
  15. This holds up great. Finish is still burned into my brain 23 years later. Love Cornette!a reaction: "Well, at least it happened on our show." Jim Ross is most definitely NOT a rice queen.
  16. RAPPING TERRY FUNK! AND jokes about Dory Jr being mentally slow? AND Kevin Sullivan talking about his "fahthah" Magnificent.
  17. Amazing Eaton performance and a nice showcase of Flair working differently as a babyface. Lance was great on commentary (and there's his WCW voice again!). Not too much to add, but this was great.
