Dirt Sheets
Reports out of Japan indicate the the JWA has been drawing big houses three times a month with Andre the Giant and Hulk Hogan on top. Word is that even though Hogan and Andre are being paid top dollar (top yen?) JWA is still making a lot of money off of their star power. Also, rumour has it that Hogan and Andre are quite happy working limited dates and giving their bodies a break from the wear and tear of busier schedule. The big question is: How long can the Hogan/Andre attendance boost last? Is it sustainable, or is it a temporary boost that would work better if Hogan and Andre were treated more as a limited-time special attraction?

Owen on the Sports Shop was pure gold, and then the beating he put on his brother was shocking. I like seeing the classy side of Bam Bam Bigelow. I wonder if he can win over the fans in Japan as well.

UNIVERSAL WRESTLING FEDERATION (UWF)
Killer Khan is a great choice as the Special Enforcer. We have something big waiting for him in Japan. Shocking turn for Ron Fuller! I wonder what kind of effect Ladd losing his licence will have, going forward. I get the feeling that things are far from over between Candy, Brown, & Ladd vs Reed, Simmons, & now, perhaps, Atlas. I have to agree with Cornette, that kind of match *is* barbaric. So long, Tommy Rich. That's what you get for trusting a Jezebel. I wonder what the fallout from the World Tag Team Title match will be, and I wonder who Akbar's "friend" is. Nice payoff to the Ron Wright brass knuckles angle. Nikita as champ is just nuts. Imagine that crowd reaction. Of course, I loved the ending with Giant Baba running in. You built up every part of that show really well, and it all paid off in a satisfying manner while giving the fans plenty of reasons to keep tuning in. Very well done.

That main event absolutely had the Saddledome rocking. I did not see a suspension coming for Tonga!

FREE AGENT WIRE
JWA would like to move Tarzan Goto, Yoji Anjo, Coco Samoa, and Kazuo Yamazaki up to the main roster.. I think that only Anjo is listed on the Wire... but all 4 were active in '86 and I don't think any of them are on anyone's roster. Apologies if I am wrong about any of that.

I loved your use of the footage from Japan, and I really enjoyed seeing Andre defend his JWA Japanese Title in Canada. Floyd Creatchman attacking Paul E was a great, shocking moment. I agree with kevin that Adonis standing up to Paul E was pretty cool, too. Nasty, violent main event. Tonga, in a cage, with a chair and handcuffs... that's too much for any man to overcome.

WCW 2000
I'm still bummed out that the 1988-1992 project fell apart before it got going. That could have been a lot of fun.

The Moon. The Moon would be a better place to start. Or, maybe, Mexico. In 1995.

I like the show of class by Tanaka in offering Pillman a re-match. I agree with SirE that the Chris Adams & Ron Garvin stuff made perfect sense. You can just keep running Piper vs Roberts, Steamboat vs Bock, Pillman vs Zenk and Cactus vs Sabu forever as far as I'm concerned. So many great, logical, and natural match-ups on those cards.

I really enjoyed the stark contrast between the vicious beat-down on Lane and the optimistic promo from Colon. British technician Tony St. Clair vs. Indian wildman Tiger Jeet Singh is such a crazy match-up. Looking forward to July 5th.

Nice to see the Steiners getting a win before they come over here. I believe his name is Mister Brad. That's exact;y how I'd book Idol vs Singh, too. The Agency just has so many ways to cheat to win. Nice "turn about is fair play" spots between Mulligan and #1derful I like all the various tag feuds coming together in the US Tag Team Title Bout. Then a good, close fight in the Main Event. I'm loving heel champ Dibiase in MACW.

General Chat topic
Alcohol is my main vice and has been for years. I enjoy the social aspects of drinking, I like matching drinks with food, and I like trying new drinks. The drinking culture in Japan is just great. There are a lot of really good, inexpensive places to get a drink and some food near my home. I love the local sake. Craft beer culture has taken off in this region in the last couple of years. I enjoy a plum-based drink very much in the summer. I used to drink heavily about three times a month, and have at least one drink about 5 times a week. Since my second daughter was born, I have cut way down. I only get drunk about once a month, and have a drink or two maybe three times a week. And... Speaking of food... What are your top 5 foods? 1 - Gyoza (there are two different Osho no Gyoza shops within a short walk from my place) great with beer. 2 - Yakitori (generally when I go drinking with my friends we go to a yakitori bar a/k/a izakaya) great with beer or sake 3 - Karaage (Japanese fried chicken.~ Fugu karaage is good, too) beer 4 - Sushi (there are two really good inexpensive chain sushi places in Nara: Sushi Ro and Kura Sushi. 100 yen per plate - about one dollar - and delicious) beer or sake or green tea 5 - Cheeseburgers (I haven't gone 100 percent native yet) beer or pop

What did Ray Stevens expect? He's a pencil-necked geek, a gritty freak, a scum-suckin' pea-head with a lousy physique! Of course a Hollywood fashion plate like Blassie is gonna side with a real man like Diamond Timothy! I agree with dawho and spaldoni that going with heel champs cheating to win is the right move because it sets up more money matches down the line.

Following the Business vs Following the Product?
It definitely seems to be happening. It's one of the reasons why I more or less only discuss wrestling online here at PWO these days. I'm with you, I wanna watch and discuss and argue about matches and wrestlers. That other stuff does not interest me.

Shoot fights with cool mat-work
I'm loving this thread. The Uno/Sato/Hansen shoot matches are poetry in motion. I love watching Carlos Newton's and Sakuraba's grappling. I'm an absolute Minowaman mark. I am looking forward to watching some of the other suggestions on here.

Haha! I think I've got it already, thanks to your clue. I'll send you a pm to confirm, so as not to spoil it if anyone else wants to try. That is a GREAT one).

How much time a week do you devote to watching wrestling?
I thought my answer was going to be relatively unusual... but it looks like a lot of people here are in the same boat as me these days. I generally spend more time discussing wrestling online, mostly right here, than I do watching wrestling these days. I definitely don't watch nearly as much as I used to. It varies tremendously from week to week and month to month. A week where I'm not too busy with work/family/friends and when the weather isn't great and I am in the mood to watch some wrestling? 20 hours. A week where the opposite is true? Maybe not even one single match. An average week? Don't get many of those. I have never been a podcast guy. I watch the occasional wrestling documentary. I participate in the Armchair Booking 80s project here, and will often watch 80s footage as "research" for that (and because I enjoy it a lot). I play a match on Fire Pro a couple of times a week. I go to Osaka or other places to hang out with my wrestling friends and/or watch a show a handful of times a year. My priorities have shifted a lot since my second daughter was born. I don't resent or regret that at all. Wrestling!s still a top-4 hobby with me (weightlifting, drinking, and classical music are the other 3). I'd say the majority of my wrestling time is now spent here at PWO, because right now that's what I enjoy the most.
