  1. I was impressed at this when I was 12 and still like the match but honestly that crowd was so dead for it I’m surprised they didn’t pump in any canned chants like they were even doing on Raw by this point. Not every week but when you can tell the taping was in it’s third hour. It’s no Flair/Steamboat but it’s as close as they would get at least until they started pushing Austin properly. So while it’s a great match it might have been wasted on what just appears in hindsight to have been the largest Superstars taping ever, after Shawn’s entrance anyway.
  2. And I bet Martel looks the same

  4. That’s a great title I honestly couldn’t have come up with. It’s so kind of obvious but only until it’s presented to you as such.
  5. Maura Tierney is cast as Doris.

  7. The one I was really looking forward to but it never happened was Jake Roberts talking about the WWF in 1991
  8. This has been very helpful in breaking down the mess for me, and expanding on context so thanks guys. For such an industry that reveres it’s own history and mythology, it seems the mistakes skipped over always seem to either regenerate into another problem, or gets ignored and comes back to bite them on the ass anyway. In those cracks to the armor, people are either left behind or prosper just enough until they take their ball and go home.
  9. Today’s episode is fascinating and might actually get me into watching this more just by the premise of turning the tables for this episode.
  10. I watched about 30 minutes of the 1966 television adaptation of Death of a Salesman yesterday and now I think about it I finally get their gimmick. Willy Loman’s sons and their prissy neighbor as a tag team and manager
  11. I started this thread in complete anticipation of this moment
  12. HBO’s Real Sports is sniffing around the allegations apparently
  13. Kind of ironic to me that right around thirty years ago is when the company fired Kerry Von Erich. The squandered effort by the company into pushing who was for awhile the most over guy in the country besides Hogan, is a bitter part of the story for me. Wasn’t their fault he was off the rails exactly but some guilt has to be laid at Vince’s feet in somewhat the same fashion it should be his own father’s, for keeping him going when he eventually became a risk to himself enough that they had no other choice in a time in the company when such media scrutiny was knocking at their door. I remember a shoot interview with Percy Pringle talking about the moment Kerry realized he was fired back in 92. Just put on his gear and left, didn’t say a word. I’m only thinking of this now, because for as much as I think Vince should face the music I am sad that it will wind up being of no relief to the other people and their families whose lives were affected by his unrepentant greed, and the further defects in his character this whole sad state of affairs is exposing to a possibly harsher light then the Meltzer’s and the TMZ’s of the world. Fucking insider trading. It’s the misappropriation of funds and not of the justice due to Owen Hart’s widow or Ms. Chatterton or anyone else in the long line of usual suspects at this point of being thorns in the company and his side.
  14. I would imagine Vince has none of the gravitas with Washington people certainly in the NFL do.
  15. Unless all the footage is destroyed this could be very well the case if what they have is good enough to illustrate what the culture of the company is, and the story creates enough attention that the story can be told a different way. But that’s being optimistic, I’m sure all the data has been erased assuming they shot it digitally. Isn’t there a book being written too about the company’s history? I’d have to think that is kaput too sadly.
  16. Framed within the context of Reagan’s America, and the ascension of cultural conservatism of which one could argue that in many ways helped the wrestling boom of the 80’s, it could make any retelling of that saga all the more interesting and infuriating all the same. I’m guessing Efron is going to play Kevin but I’m really interested in who’s going to play Doris. From what I’ve seen, and this is probably just down to her rightfully turning away people who wanted to exploit the boys’ downfall (including at some point her own husband I would think it’s fair to say), the story from her point of view has never really been told. Besides that I really wonder how this can all be boiled down to something presumably under 2 hours. It will have to acknowledge Gino Hernandez, maybe Bruiser Brody too. Maybe a longer movie could put all of those pieces in the right places but I’ve always felt this is a story needing to be told as completely as possible to understand the depth of tragedy at play.
  17. I’ve heard lots of praise for the director’s work, Martha Marcy May Marlene in particular. And yeah it being the same company that put out Uncut Gems and Moonlight tells me more about the aims of the project then if it was any of the major studios or streamers.
  18. https://deadline.com/2022/06/zac-efron-the-iron-claw-a24-sean-durkin-1235046496/ Beyond it being a press release and on a site such as Deadline, that info is thin and nonexistent as to the involvement of the family as such, is in this production. I hope it is being done with their, and Kevin especially, approval.
  19. I’m just learning about this now
  20. The good old non-denial denial
  21. Website now says this isn’t true and links to a retraction
