[1996-12-02-WCW-Nitro] NWO take over announce booth
I remember those rumors being particularly strong then. Looking back, it would have been terrific if they did get Randy back. I posted elsewhere my fantasy scenario of him coming back. Vince stands in the middle of the ring, announces him back (in the way he could only do). Randy comes out, hi-5's the audience, shakes Vince's hand and they start the interview off with all the pleasantries. Then the interview gets serious, and at some point Vince slips up. He refers to him as you-know-what. Randy stops in his tracks, slowly takes off his glasses (in the way he could only do), and loses his cool. Him and Vince jaw it out before Randy finally attacks, going as far as giving him the elbow before Shawn Michaels comes in and does the rescue. And your hype for WrestleMania 13 begins. A solid main event everyone can get behind, Randy gets his glory and Shawn doesn't lose his smile.

The pose Jake does as El Diablo is pretty funny.

The Steve Austin Show
I'm warming up a bit to Steve's style. Listening to his interviews first, then I'll probably get to his solo stuff.

[1991-11-23-WWF-Superstars] Randy Savage and Jake Roberts
Just a guess, but I imagine the steroid scandals and such had more to do with this.

Shoots Review and Preview thread
If it's what he wanted, and WWE wants to put him in, they should just bring Lanny and Angelo in. The Genius was a great character and Lanny was a good worker and good on the stick as well. I don't know a whole lot about Angelo's career, but you'd think Vince would admire him for what he did with ICW in relation to what Vince eventually did nation-wide.

[1996-09-23-WWF-Raw] Marc Mero vs Faarooq
Yes he did. This surprised me, as I thought he was Jewish for some reason. He is Jewish. Wouldn't be surprised if it was part of the semi-blackface thing that carried over a little from his WCW gimmick.

WWF announcing debate mega-thread
That's the primary reason why I didn't think he was good then, if I think back to what separated Lawler during that time to his predecessors. I suspect why a lot of why Jerry got better is because of Jim Ross. I remember more stuff with the two of them after Jerry came back than in 1999, and they were a damn good team up until J.R. was moved out.

Shoots Review and Preview thread
I believe it, mostly because of his dad getting inducted into WCW's hall only months after Randy signed. I'm surprised that Randy never did a proper shoot interview outside the little bits and pieces out already. Maybe just part of him wanting to get out of the spotlight.

WWF announcing debate mega-thread
Maybe it's just me then. I heard a little about him from Apter mags but didn't see him on television until he made his debut on Prime Time in '92. Looking back, some of what he said was funny but I despair a little because Heenan could have lifted the product so much during those lean years when he was in WCW not doing a whole lot.

WCW's Highway to Hell
The woman-beater part of his gimmick turned me off completely to him. My less-than-restrained feelings on the subject aside, it's just cheap as shit heat.

The Steve Austin Show
He has had Rob Van Dam and Mick Foley on before. The one with Mick is pretty good. Jay knows his stuff, both as a fan and having a brief background in amateur wrestling himself.

The Jim Ross Is A Grouchy Hateful Vile Human Being thread
The sleaziness comes as much from WCW letting it on the air than Ed doing the impersonation. If it just existed as something that was a backstage off-camera thing to amuse the boys, that's one thing. It's entirely another when a huge corporate entity as Time Warner risks the kind of complaints they could well have gotten from it. AFAIK it only stirred uproar in the IWC and not in mainstream press, so in that sense WCW got away with it. But it tarnished a legacy that was on shaky ground to begin with.

What's the overall opinion on Lawler as an announcer? I really couldn't get used to him once he replaced Heenan as heel announcer, but my opinion started to change once he started to be more of a tweener and gone the route to where he is today.

WWE quirks, linguistic and otherwise
Did they call it a hospital when Jerry had his heart attack?

This is getting to be like Carlin's routine about euphemisms.

The Steve Austin Show
Steve recommended Dusty's book on his Twitter just now, and Dusty said something about Steve on his. I might just have enough patience to hear those two talk if he gets Dusty for an interview.

Bret Hart vs. Ric Flair
Is there a handheld of the one in London, Ontario against Piper where Flair said he was drunk?

The Man They Call Vader
Is it fair to say he could be a lock for the WWE HOF? All signs point to maybe since he had that comeback match last year and a few articles on WWE.com about him.

Jerry Lawler in serious condition
Fair enough. Would still like to see him in next year's Rumble though.

Jerry Lawler in serious condition
Just had a hell of an idea for an angle, that of course WWE will likely never do. Jake Roberts has said he wants to be an entrant in next year's Royal Rumble, and has been getting in shape for it. If this comes to pass, I'd love to see him return to his feud with Jerry but spin it on it's head with Jake as the heel with subtle reminders and hints of the heart attack as ways of making Jerry more vulnerable and ultimately putting more heat on Jake. There would be a way to do it without them even having to get in the ring I'd think.

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3
I believe a Kickstarter fund has been started to help bring together a definitive independent JCP doc.

Chris, Nancy, & Daniel Benoit found dead
I can't say I've gone out of my way not to watch any of Chris' stuff, but I can't say that if I had that it bothered me. I'd be more bothered by seeing documentary footage of him with his family, or just speaking as himself. Getting back to the Cable coverage this got, I remember distinctly how impressed I was with John Cena when he was on Larry King. It was right then and there I knew he would be someone WWE should consider invaluable to them when it comes to that kind of stuff. He toed the company line yes, but he was classy and considerate with his answers. Showed more restraint than Vince ever has in those kinds of situations.
