  1. Bret Hart/Jerry Lawler, in '93 specifically. The anger at the end of that SummerSlam match is palpable.
  2. Did he ever have any good matches with Sting? I seem to remember the rivalry, but not much else.
  3. Bret had some pretty exciting matches I had the privilege of watching while they happened (his match with Austin at WM 13 is probably the single best WM match I've ever seen), and had decent programs with guys in his prime. There's no doubt that he had a strong fan base in America, Canada and abroad as well. Even with how his career ended, I could never consider his legacy too tainted by the choices he made. But Flair's Flair. I don't think Bret could have carried Western Canada the way Ric carried the Mid-Atlantic, and ultimately the southeastern part of the country. Bret would have had way too much ego (a charge levied at him by plenty of people he's dealt with) to allow a roster of people to rise up along with him. Flair not only made himself, but others too. Sting, Luger, Windham, and lots of other people he brought into that territory who would become name guys and eventually legends. The question I think people should take away from this is, if Bret had never worked for McMahon, would we be having this conversation at all?
  4. It's too bad nobody stepped up and represented Goldberg's interests throughout this. Specifically, someone above Nash and company in that particular food chain. It's been said before, but it's ridiculous how under-represented Bill was by WCW. WWF had "Austin 3:16" signs in the crowd the next night, and shirts in production by the end of that summer. It was good intuition by Vince, but it was by no means rocket science. It's either that the Turner people were really too stupid to capitalize on it, or had their hands tied by the guys making the big bucks.
  5. We did that at our house when I was a kid for a few years. The first time, we actually had little wooden trophies painted gold for whoever won. Later, we did it for money. Haven't done it in awhile. It is quite fun.
  6. The unusual context about the NBK thing is that they let Oliver Stone use the footage, or didn't care enough to sue. Richard Belzer (of all people) name-dropping Doink The Clown to illustrate Ned Beatty's fandom on an early episode of Homicide: Life On The Street.
  7. I agree. Great to hear him and JBL again.
  8. I saw the end part of this on YouTube, curious as to how they turned Boss Man face, because he was still a pretty hot heel in this time frame. It shouldn't have worked, but it did. He went in one year from being Hogan's hated rival in a series of cage matches to being the guy who had Hogan's back later this year. Off-topic, but they really dropped the ball when they teased a face turn in '99 against McMahon. We wouldn't have had all that ugliness with Paul Wight's "father", etc.
  9. When did Arn start using the spinebuster? Earliest I seem to recall seeing it was at the '89 Royal Rumble when he put one on Marty Jannetty?
  10. I always wondered why Andre didn't work the match, since he still worked matches in Japan until a few months before his death. The face turn is great, Bobby spitting "I'm the fucking boss" and poking him around after.
  11. Would have been interesting if Jesse had stuck around long enough to see Slaughter go "turncoat". Siding with a heel portrayed as sympathetic to the enemy would probably have wrecked his political ambitions.
  12. Being backup in case John's injury puts him out for longer was my first thought, too. I don't follow the show slavishly, but I can imagine Punk could pull a decent match out of Ryback. Seriously, I was close to marking out with how well they did that ending. So bravo to them for putting on some decent segments that made sense for once.
  13. What other Docs would we confuse him for? Hendrix? Was a nod to all the Back To The Future references on the previous page.
  14. I think we need to stress that "Doc" is Steve Williams at this point.
  15. The Bell's palsy part of it bothered me the most, as someone who's spent part of my life around people with handicaps it can get the blood boiling. It makes me wonder if Bischoff would have let it go on the air. My guess is probably, and not because of the possibility of any bad blood between Eric and Jim, but more or less with how WCW was run they wouldn't have had the time to deliberate the pros and cons of airing something like it. The kind of "fuck it, let's do it live" attitude served them well sometimes, but I can imagine that was how Nash and the NWO could have pulled off the Arn spoof that caused so much grief.
  16. The thing I notice with RF interviews is that if they come out good, it's because whoever is being interviewed has a good enough story to tell. I hope in this case (and by how they teased it in the video, I'm guessing that they do), they know how big a coup it is that they finally got him down for an interview about his career in wrestling (maybe not specifically, but it will be the focus for sure). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uM8G--NgBgg Here is the interview he did with Stern a few days ago.
  17. Keith Olbermann overstating something? Get outta here.
  18. Keith Olbermann said on his Twitter that Linda has bailed on Romney after the fallout from the "47%" video. Any links to back this up?
  19. The thing about that is Bret landed on his butt, and Luger on his feet, which made me think if they did a photo-finish they would have given it to Bret.
  20. Apparently, Canadian Hospital food rules. And you have to LOVE Lawler eating the salad. You know he came up with that. The diet Coke is a little amusing. Doesn't he own a lot of Coca-Cola memorabilia?
  21. That's the important thing. The job their medics did outweighs any mere complaints about moral standing as to whether the show continued. It's easy to say from where we sit they should have stopped it. But honestly, would any one of you who thought it should have been stopped pick up the mantle and ask however many thousands of paying customers that because someone suffered a heart attack that the show has to be cancelled? Of course some people would understand and leave, but there's always the potential some jackass gets pissed and starts an altercation that could make a bad situation worse. If anything, keeping the show possibly going allowed the ambulances to move out of the arena faster because everybody was still in their seats!
  22. Just curious, but how many known instances are there of guys having heart attacks in the ring, or shortly after a match? Didn't Mike DiBiase die of one?
