  1. Watching it at the time I wasn't shocked by the blood, but looking back it's surprising they did as much color that day as they did. Although Flair later told the story about McMahon chewing him out for doing it.
  2. This was Superstars? I could have sworn it was part of a USA special leading into WM.
  3. Someone had a genius sign last night. "Sin 'Enough' Cara".
  4. Great...now what?
  5. Funny thing about the backstage thing I'll always remember is Vince calling Jake a "son of a bitch" but being bleeped out, and Heenan being utterly offended at his language.
  6. For my money, this is definitely the best Rumble ever. It took what was essentially a big gimmick match and raised the stakes to a penultimate level by putting the belt up for grabs. It's also kind of a swan song for the WWF's first golden era, and the last high-profile match for a lot of guys (Haku, Barbarian, Valentine, Warlord, Hercules, Snuka, Volkoff) who had a thankless job of being part of their mid-card for so long. And it's probably Flair's most watchable performance during his first run for Vince. That all said, the ending was anti-climactic. The Hogan-Sid rift almost took the wind from Flair's sails. The interesting thing about the aftermath is that you saw pretty clearly that some fans were tired of Hulk's act. Sid pointing to the sign saying "Hulk Who?" was classic.
  7. I usually love his promos but Cena didn't have it tonight, though anybody would have had a hard time not being the third wheel. John's reaction to Punk talking about Boston however, was pitch perfect.
  8. That was beautiful. Punk went above and beyond two weeks ago. Call me a mark, but I'm utterly convinced Sunday is his last match.
  9. That raises a question I've had for quite awhile. Would a match like this take out more physically, than any one single Broadway he did in the 80's? I could see how it's more disorientating mentally, because you would have to adjust a little bit to the styles of 29 other men. And I would imagine even that wouldn't have been too big a problem for Flair because he'd already worked with or knew personally probably 90% of the other guys.
  10. One could argue that was as much Piper's night as it was Flair's. He not only had this match, but put on a pretty good performance during the actual Royal Rumble, lasting a little over half the match.
  11. Didn't he give up the polka dots when Sapphire was bought off?
  12. Are they really that homophobic? Maybe it's true for some of the talent (Cena definitely, and a few others who have foot-in-mouth disease) and other backstage guys, but I can't see how Vince is since Patterson has been one of his closest friends for so many years. And from what I read, Linda wasn't all that socially conservative in her views.
  13. He just apologized for his remarks on the TMZ video on his Twitter account.
  14. Funny they use a word so close to "transparent" as part of their vocabulary.
  15. I'm gonna have to disagree there. For historical purposes maybe, but it's certainly not as interesting as what was in WWF magazines. I remember the magazine that came with the PPV purchase of Wrestlemania X. It was pictures of every match from 1 through 9, and they looked brilliant. Of all the mags I ever collected and eventually lost for whatever reason, I still wish I had that one. That said, I always thought the articles were more interesting in the Apter mags. You could tell it was coming from a true fan's perspective, which was nice. And for whatever reason, I was always obsessed with reading the card results of house shows and such. Especially the little section at the end with cards from the 60's and 70's.
  16. It's amazing to me all the Apter mags are in circulation. I lost interest in them totally by 2000 when I followed WrestleZone. You would think such a niche market would have fallen, considering the receeding interest in print media over the last decade. I never liked that the PWI year-end issue was always out around New Year's Day, thus not able to cover anything that happened from November to December.
  17. I'm sure Tony going to WWE had something to do with the Turner purchase of the Crockett territory, since he started around that time frame. I liked him up until his catch-phrases became all too familiar and annoying. I'd argue he had better chemistry with Ventura than either Monsoon or McMahon.
  18. I get the feeling I missed something big tonight.
  19. The best thing I think to come out of this whole mess is that it put JR in a new light as an announcer. He was way more passive before in WWE, or at least he seemed that way to me. After this, it gave his whole persona a jolt that lead him to the Monday Night gig he rightfully had for so long.
  20. Is it true Lanny had a contract with WCW while Randy was there, and paid something like a million a year despite not appearing anywhere in the company?
