  1. Really random obscure ECW question I hope someone can answer for me here. Is it true one of their mid-carder performers used a song by Porcupine Tree called "Stranger By The Minute" as their entrance music? I read this somewhere a long time ago and can't remember the source, but it's been at me for awhile. The timeline of it would have to be towards the end of the company, considering the song came out in 1999.
  2. I remember that being shown on sports highlight segments at the time because of how smooth and effortless it looked. I watched the video and agree that it did look effortless on Ahmed's part, but I more or less meant it wasn't as big a deal in '95 primarily because of Lex leaving, and now I think about it more to do with Yoko being reduced to a mid-carder by this point.
  3. Reducing it to a 5-10 minute segment, rather than putting the show itself on television was the mistake. Doing it live would have been better, but I highly doubt if they had that kind of pull with USA at the time (bear in mind, they were still pre-empting for the dog show). Funny that two years later, after Luger made his famous defection, Ahmed Johnson slammed Yoko like it was nothing.
  4. Jay Lethal has been fired.
  5. I think the "torch passing" stuff has to do with Andre doing a straight job for someone, which hadn't (to my knowledge) happened before for obvious reasons. I also think it was a backstage move as much as anything else, because Andre had the respect of the boys that maybe Hogan didn't have. Silly or not as it sounds, that's my take on it.
  6. Muchnick linked this on his blog today with the headline "Once Again and For the Record: TNA is worse than WWE", and considering the source that's quite the slap to them. It's quite infuriating, but hopefully as it suggests, the cat is really going to be out of the bag on them once and for all if these lawsuits being filed actually have all the merit we think they do. It's all the more proof that the pressure should be put on that clusterfuck to reorganize itself and become the true alternative to Vince's "Entertainment company".
  7. The one thing that I liked about this at all; Randy Savage stating the obvious that this should be Bret Hart's match.
  8. Heenan first started on PrimeTime because Jesse was shooting Predator, and the rest is history. I think for SummerSlam '89, Gorilla couldn't make it because of health problems. I know at an MSG show sometime before that, Vince filled in because Monsoon was recovering from a stroke.
  9. I think the Genius also read a poem/MC'ed during the Macho King coronation on Superstars.
  10. This makes me wonder if Vince ever tried to get Arnold to appear on WWE programming back when Predator and The Running Man came out.
  11. I'd imagine if they were still married then, even suggesting Liz do some of the more risque stuff the women on the show were doing would probably bare not too well on whomever would have suggested it. I'm sure getting Randy to OK Liz taking off the dress to reveal the bikini at the first SummerSlam was akin to pulling teeth.
  12. Do you have more on this or is that the extent of it? It's odd that someone who was strictly a non-ring performer left on bad terms.
  13. It shows. Strangely enough I think his last big show, SummerSlam '97, was also the debut of Michael Cole.
  14. It makes sense. BTW, a fellow by the name of Craig DeGeorge (real name Minervini) came before Sean, so I guess you could say they got it right the 2nd time. It certainly made Tony Schiavone's employment seem a bit redundant, unless they had some concern Sean couldn't pull off doing TV or PPV's. I'd say Josh Matthews is that guy right now, except for being way more youthful than Sean, Todd, and Michael combined.
  15. Wouldn't be surprised if he left, actually. Last I heard, he was working with Fox Sports out of Phoenix. And for all the shit people throw at Michael Cole, Todd was way more deserving of it.
  16. That's beside the point.
  17. Does anyone else find it ominous the same week this document comes out, ABC announced the cancellation of both All My Children and One Life To Live?
  18. Guessing this is from the Observer, but can't be sure Never thought I'd say this, but some actual good news about TNA.
  19. Makes sense. I wasn't a fan of the trashy style during that period. There's no doubt that there were bright spots, but those were sometimes outweighed by the stuff done purely for shock value. I'm not a prude, but I didn't feel it fit in with what I loved about wrestling. Plus it made me a little uncomfortable, even as a teenager, knowing that there were children in the audience being subjected to it.
  20. It's in pretty stark contrast to the first one Rock hosted 15 years later, which is still one of the funniest episodes I've ever seen.
  21. The really strange thing about that episode is that other than the monologue, the only other skit they appear in (other than the one as themselves with Billy Crystal as Fernando) is one where they are used as essentially Jason rip-off's if I remember the skit right. Just really odd because it went against their image so much.
  22. Bret Hart-Diesel from IYH Feb. '96 and Mankind-Hunter from SummerSlam '97 come to mind.
  23. Don't know but I would guess Hogan/Bundy. I'm pretty sure the last time it was used was in that Austin/McMahon match from '99 at the PPV before that year's WM, and it was painted black.
  24. The blue cage wasn't very sturdy from what I've heard as well.
  25. Hell In A Cell probably warranted the change back to a more traditional cage.
