  1. It's telling that they didn't go with an Undertaker feud (I think they had a casket match in '96 but that's about it), but they put him up against mostly very macho faces as to enhance the "bizarre" (gay) aspects of the character.
  2. Nash said they spent hours and hours trying to get this right, I think something to do with difficulty getting shots from the helicopter. The song is terrible, everything looks too blurry and yet they spent a small fortune trying to make it. I know they were hyping Goldust around this time, but to see his face at the end with the logo flashing across seemed a little odd to me.
  3. Not funny at all to me. It wasn't a particularly engaging interview to begin with and Jerry coming in and taking potshots left and right seemed very attention-grabbing. Heenan would do the same thing but a bit more economical on delivery so you wouldn't lose your total attention from the interview. I think the word "pooper scooper" is used about 5 times between Lawler and McMahon during this match. The cutesy way the announcers would talk sometimes was pretty grating.

Austin by himself could sell it out. Away for 13 years, back for one big match (Rock?).
  5. Found it interesting that the camera caught Flair patting Sting's thigh so he could muscle out of the Figure-Four and do the yell. JJ Dillon I think said that all the Horseman had to prompt him to get his pop from the crowd.
  6. I think Rikishi getting is more the case of a guy who worked hard for them and getting proper due in that respect, than someone who's a top guy or an innovator of the business.
  7. Just heard Larry Zbyszko will be the next one announced.
  8. Plus I'd imagine he was pretty anti-WWF at the time. That's the impression I got from his RF shoot concerning the time he left WCW.
  9. That's what I was thinking. Shawn probably just bitched enough to Kevin to where he formed his own opinions without having met him. Makes a lot of sense, with human nature being what it is and how tight I'm sure the clique was when the split happened when 2-3 of them were in the other company.
  10. Didn't Rock have some heat with HBK? If that's true I'm guessing that's how this started.
  11. "even if the rest of the planet didn't care" Not the first time words to those effect were applied to Vince.
  12. I love the Muta match too. Muta as a member of the Dungeon of Doom would have given the group some credibility.
  13. They aired a pretty hot tag match, Flair/Arn vs. Dusty/Ron Garvin after WrestleMania IV Sunday. Is that anywhere On Demand on the network?
  14. I heard Chyna was brought up for HoF talk and Trips looked very uncomfortable.
  15. Bischoff's really growing into that grey hair now.
  16. Them getting fired for bleeding has always seemed so strange to me, since that was far from the first match in WCW where someone bled.
  17. I read they might be close to a deal. There is a Jerry Lawler documentary in the works so I imagine they'll get something soon.
  18. Is it true Hogan's WM IV check was 1 million?
  19. As to how WWE got the rights to Global, wouldn't it have just been part and parcel with the World Class deal?
  20. I was surprised to learn how poor his WCW deal was. Per what he said on Austin's podcast he made some percentage less of what Marc Mero was, who left not long after Wight started.
  21. What I want to know is, what breaks this monotony and puts the company in trouble again? Another WCW? In truth there is no lack of good wrestling around that's not WWE, but none of them (that I know of) can offer their talent anything approaching something equal to what they have. Plus good luck finding a company as big as Turner's was willing to put wrestling relatively in the forefront as Ted did. Another Chris Benoit-level tragedy? They've done well to cover their ass with their wellness program. Don't get me wrong, they've done some good things with it, too. But one gets the impression that ass-covering is more the reason for it. I certainly did after listening to Punk's AOW interview, and he even says as much in it.
  22. The main branch of the subject usually is Steve Austin, but in a way WCW losing Vader and Dustin Rhodes hurt the company in their own ways too. Especially Rhodes, who could legitimately have had a shot at being a top guy if he stuck around. It's especially painful to consider this with how ultimately unremarkable the Goldust character was from a wrestling standpoint when the character was fresh. He worked with top talent, but it wasn't terribly consistent and thus was given less opportunities to shine in the ring.
