  1. Counterpoint: Hillbilly Jim, Jimmy Hart, Honky Tonk Man and the Big Boss Man.
  2. One scenario I can imagine is that if Randy stuck around, him and Bob (after winning the belt from Bret) would have gone around the horn in house shows before Nash getting the belt at the Royal Rumble as I can't imagine the original plan being Diesel winning the belt at a house show, even if it was MSG.
  3. I would hope they never take anything down. I mean this isn't a Netflix deal with rights issues to deal with. Once it's up on the Network, it should stay on the Network. I said this before, but the one exception to this that I would accept is if they put documentaries from forthcoming Home Video releases on for one night only, for the purpose of garnering interest in the release and maybe resulting in higher sales since that department is in something of a slump now.
  4. Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.
  5. And he'd only had 3 wins by then so maybe mildly impressive at the time. The streak itself was never as impressive to me as how well he worked so late in his career against guys like Shawn, Batista and others. It did build up this fascinating and engaging narrative that it sort of represented the fight within him to carry on after so long.
  6. I think the streak was first mentioned back in 1997 by Taker himself at the Slammys. It wasn't called "The Streak" but he mentioned he'd been undefeated at WM by that point.
  7. It's a pity they never had a Backlund/Savage match to follow this. When was the last time he even wrestled for them? It seemed like he did some stuff after WrestleMania and was mostly an announcer until he left.
  8. Has the Martel one come out yet? I think it'll be good. Bret obviously has some controversial opinions but he's always good for a shoot. And this will be his first time doing one of these with a guy who both has a good grasp of the material they'll be discussing and is a good interviewer so I look forward to it.
  9. On one of the "Legends of Wrestling" roundtables, someone said that Terry had told them that the Red Rooster and Mr. Perfect gimmicks were created the same day and that he was almost the latter.
  10. The Crush program was important to get him established. They would have just shot their wad starting with Taker out of the gate.
  11. That would be totally against character though. No, I think the best scenario is that New Orleans was the final act. Plus, I haven't heard anything as to the extent of his injuries after hearing he was taken to the hospital. He could no longer be in shape to perform as well as he could even last year against Punk.
  12. That's what I thought. I remember him dragging around Hogan with his bike.
  13. When was the last time he worked heel and did it successfully?
  14. Class. Never thought of this before. You'd have to tread carefully not to make 1992 Undertaker look like an idiot though. My dream scenario is that this would have been more in the late 90's, though it would have worked around the time the character debuted too. A more fiendish less cartoon-y Doink versus the ultra-gothy Taker could have worked well.
  15. That's the only scenario that sounds interesting. Other than that, I really hope New Orleans was it. The match was sub-par, but the shock from the 1-2-3 was pretty astounding and kind of a wonderful moment in and of itself.
  16. KC just shot a new Timeline with Bret, covering WWF 1992.
  17. The extenuating circumstances are paramount in this case, though. He was top dog in WCW, at a time when wrestling had a huge black-eye and when it was considered by people not in the wrestling bubble to be bush-league and way too regional. That stigma would really not go away until the NWO, by which time he was in the WWF. He did a lot better up north than people give him credit for. The ground was shifting and they were about to happen upon two of the biggest stars that the company has ever produced. But he still managed to stay somewhat in the upper card until the fall '97, with his gimmick intact. Maybe it was because I was more of a WCW guy at the time, but I knew WWF bringing him in felt like a mis-match but he made the most of it. That run could have failed a lot worse than it did.
  18. I'd imagine that Patterson scene was chopped up to exclude any gay references. I think that's what that was all about, but I can only imagine how over that part went over the fans who necessarily don't know.
  19. Tonight's episode was okay. The stuff with Jimmy and Tony at the end was quite powerful stuff, and next week looks no different. The "series finale" so it looks like this experiment was just that.
  20. Scott was best as a tag team guy with his brother, and even Bagwell a little because they had good chemistry. On his own he fumbled.
  21. A heel Doink/Undertaker program would have been money. It's Batman and The Joker. The evil antics versus the other-worldly character would have been a perfect fit.
  22. This must have been before they had hired The Powers of Pain, who had a somewhat similar gimmick.
  23. I heard somewhere that before his death Brody was talking about Vince wanting him to come up and work an angle with Hogan, and that would be his gimmick. It would also be his "one last job" because he'd take the big checks and finally retire.
  24. Hogan had a TV match with Typhoon late in '91 as well. The announcers never mentioned Tugboat and the prior angle. Wasn't the Berzerker gimmick originally intended for Brody and Nord as a tag team?
