I think Jose Lothario needs to be at least discussed, as NWA Classics throws up great match after great match. I have some reviews on SC and there are some in the matches forum

Did we have that from the mid-south set?

This was a steel cage (called a fence match by Boesch) Texas death match. Bix mentioned this was available before, but I had never heard about it or seen it, so it was new to me. JIP after the first fall, but we get almost 20 minutes. Classic bloody 70s/80s cage match. Hernandez was a revelation, bumping, selling, bleeding and landing some big shots. Both guys were really good at milking drama out of 10 counts, Lothario is a simple wrestler but he has great expressiveness, awesome punches and pretty good old man bumping. I liked the finish a lot with Lothario going tailbone and spine first into the post, as a counter to a nasty neck crank. Felt like something which might paralyze someone, and definitely should have kept him down for 10. Great, great cage match, Gino is the guy who is going to get the biggest reputation boost from this footage.

Really fun short 2/3 falls match. First fall is all Staisiak bumping around for Andre and trying to work towards the heart punch. The first couple of times hit tried it Andre fired back with this huge thrust punch which looked like he almost beheaded him. Stasiak hits the heart punch and gets DQed for the first fall which felled the giant. Stasiak goes after him in the second fall but Andre counters and takes him out with a big splat. Really smartly worked fun stuff, all of this early Andre has been a gold mine.

Fellow SC'er MattD came across this youtube page which is uploading a treasure trove of previously unavailable AJPW stuff from the 70's and 80's (Bruno v. Brody, Murdoch v. Race ect.) This is the one that leaped out at me, a dream match you never really dreamed about. Lots of great moments in this with Funk weeble wabble selling from Blackwell's ham hock punches, Terry trying a bunch of headbutts which Blackwell smiles at, and then blasts him with a headbutt of his own (which left a swath of Terry's blood on Blackwell's head, and a rare clean finish. Blackwell is a great guy with a limited amount of footage, and it so fun for a new gem like this to show up.

Huh? This isn't the case at all. It gets people invested in the match and builds heat (i.e. gets the match over) but I think wrestlers get over because of some combination of: winning/push, look, charisma, interviews, and (more recently) overall wrestling ability. The logical conclusion of your argument would be wrestlers who don't sell or sell well won't be over which is not true. You have your Goldbergs, Warriors, Sids, Undertakers, etc. No. Just because someone states that selling helps get someone over, does not mean that not selling does not get them over. That is horrible logic. It is specifically a necessity vs. sufficiency flaw if anyone is thinking about taking the LSAT

Too short a career to really consider, although I love him every time he shows up. If we had a bunch of footage of the Hickerson/Condrey tag team he might be a maybe, but he was rarely a full time wrestler even when he was active, he would do a three month program and take a year off

I am a little worried about how weak the uploads have been lately, we got a ton of great shit and now it has slowed to a trickle of jobber matches

If they have 2/1/80 that means they have Gran Markus v. GIno in a chain match. Pretty intriguing

Red is still pretty great, he is more like 2005 Mysterio then 1995 Mysterio, but he is a pretty great 2005 Mysterio.

Nothing here blows me away, I assume Guerrero v. Lothario and Fans and Mantell/Dundee are matches we have see before

Valentine v. Garvin is a really interesting comp. For great feuds what do you value more the Flair v. Garvin feud or Valentine v. Tito?

Gino is the guy whose stock is rising the highest with the NWA Classics releases. Looked so awesome against Lothario and Wahoo, great bumper and bleeder with some really nasty offense too. Loved the Dynamic Duo stuff, but before now we didn't have much footage available, if great stuff continues to get released he will be a lock for my ballot

A bit of a bait and switch as this is listed as a Terry Funk v. Wahoo McDaniel and that match is the semi-finals of an elimination tourney to wrestle Harley Race for the title. The Funk v. McDaniel section is only about three minutes as Funk jumps Wahoo at the bell, smashed his headdress (Wahoo must have bought the headdress's in bulk, for all the times they got ripped up) and threw him around the ring, before Terry got quickly rolled up. Gino runs in and they both beat on Wahoo a bit before the start of the final match. Wahoo v. Gino was a pretty great double juice brawl, with Gino really doing a grizzly blade job. Wahoo is so great a just leveling people with chops, and Gino is awesome as a pinball heel. he flies over the top rope a couple of times with true abandon. A little bummed I didn't get to see more of a Funk v. Wahoo dream match, but Wahoo v. Gino was really good and the kind of hidden gem I want this project to unearth.

Short bloody nasty little affair. It almost feels like a match made so Dusty would make the cover of seedy wrestling magazines, as two minutes in Dusty has a spiderweb of blood on his face and in his blond afro. Lewin does his best to win a bleeding contest too, as he is covered very quickly. They smash each other into posts and tables, and Lewin brings in a 2x4. Finish is great with Dusty bionic elbowing Lewin right in the brain stem, knocking him down for one more elbow and the pin. Could have used a couple of more minutes, but a treat to see an old fashioned clubberin from the American Dream
