Comparing men and women as wrestlers
If you wanna say that she couldn't compete against the top professional male fighters, that's one thing and I don't have a great argument against it. But it's ridiculous to claim that every man would beat her. I still vividly remember attending a jiujitsu class where this tiny little teenage girl was their best fighter, easily running circles around all the guys in the session. MMA isn't just about physical strength; if it was, then the stronger dude would win in every single fight and that's obviously not the case. Remember those early UFCs where Royce was usually the smallest guy in the entire tournament? He still had little problem in beating a ton of guys who were much larger and stronger than him. EDIT: back to the topic at hand, a common complaint I hear about joshi is that people dislike all the screaming. Women tend to have higher and thus more piercing voices than men; and for whatever reason, this trend seems unusually pronounced among Japanese women. So if they simply get an earache every time they try to watch Manami screeching her head off, I do understand that part. Kinda like how I often find Chono's weird muttering during his matches to be rather distracting. Give me one example where a female athlete has been able to compete with a professional male athlete at the same sport at any level. Much less a combat sport where the natural advantages of strength and flexibility would be exacerbated. It doesn't happen in something like cycling which is no contact at all, I can't even believe you are arguing this seriously, it is like trying to argue with someone who doesn't believe in evolution

[1993-08-13-WWF-MSG, NY] Jerry Lawler vs Randy Savage
This was very similarly worked to their Nassau Coliseum match a year later, Lawler working his signature heel match, hiding a chain and pounding on an over babyface. Savage however was way more game then he was a year earlier. Lawler breaks out the toastmasters joke book over the microphone to start, and Savage comes out with his own Macho midget dressed in matching gear. Lawler goes after the midget, and is able to crack Savage with a chain while he was on midget defense. Savage takes a huge over the top rope bump and a nasty post shot, and Lawler does the things he did. No one does that particular dance as well as heel King, and we even got a great douche bag rope a dope by Lawler. Savage takes over and chucks Lawler over the top where the king does his insane signature bump, and gets smashed into steel posts. It looks like Savage is going to finish him off, but Lawler surprisingly retakes control by catching him with a shot to the belly off an axehandle. Lawler hits his piledriver but Bret Hart comes out and the jaw back and forth before Lawler spits on Hart, causing Bret to rush the ring and the DQ. Definitely one of the better 90's WWF Lawler matches I have seen, and it was fun to watch Lawler and Savage working with the heel/face roles reversed.

Comparing men and women as wrestlers
Why? You are kidding right? There isn't a woman athlete alive who can compete on an even level with male athletes in the same sport, especially in something like a combat sport. Cyborg would get smashed by every single male fighter in her weight class at any level. Forget about UFC or Strikeforce, I imagine she would get smacked by guys working outlaw shows in Kentucky.

Jerome's gimmick is to give long winded self important pronouncements on things he hasn't seen. Don't pull back the curtain.

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3
Dylan is really turning into the Paul F. Tompkins of wrestling podcasts. Fun show. Tomk reviewed this match in one of my favorite things he ever wrote. http://segundacaida.blogspot.com/2010/10/c...-war-games.html

The Flair Formula
What has he plagiarized from Segunda Caida? I can't imagine anyone wanting to steal Eric rambling about APW or me making the same Teddy Atlas point in 25 different Fujiwara reviews

It sounds like Will should make a separate 1990 USWA set, I would buy the shit out of that.

[1995-08-26-PWFG] Yoshiaki Fujiwara vs Taka Michinoku
Yeah Fujiwara was punishing TAKA here, bodyshots, both the shoot and the pro-style headbutts, and some sick shots to the face. TAKA was really great as the underdog who almost heelishly disrespects Fujiwara. The matwork was really speed vs. guile, as all of TAKA's attacks were lightning quick, while Fujiwara was classically taking advantage of mistakes. TAKA is really great in PWFG, he doesn't work the style really but he was so good in the mid 90's that he can work a TAKA match that fits on the show.

Most Consistent, Most Hit and Miss
Sami Callihan would be the indy guy I would put here. He has an entertaining formula that can be excellent against a great wrestler like Necro or Finlay, but can make matches with loads like Kyle O'Reily and Zach Sabre Jr. fun too.

Dave Meltzer stuff
In todays WON "Those in the company are under the impression Jericho is still returning in January and that the viral videos are a set up for him being on the Jan. 2 Raw in Memphis."

Dave Meltzer stuff
He isn't a good writer, I can't imagine any real journalist covering a real sport getting away with the kind of mangled nonsense in the Observer weekly

Dave Meltzer stuff
It was really interesting, although Meltzers habit of putting bios weirdly out of chronological order always bugs me. Made me really want to watch some Australian WCW though.

1994 Recommendations
Lord Steven Regal v. Arn Anderson 2/20/94 Tremendous match, pretty much a textbook TV title style match. Both guys target a body part, Arn with the arm, and Regal with the neck, and they go after them. Lesser wrestlers working this style will just go back to the same holds (even Flair pretty much just works the leg in the context of the figure four), but both Arn and Regal put on a ton of different locks and they all look great. It makes inherent sense, if you can't get a submission with a cravate try a crossface, hammerlock doesn't work use and arm stretch. Arn works a great hammerlock, bodyslamming Regal, turing him into a pin while holding it. Regal meanwhile wrenched the hell out of Arn's neck, cranking cravates, cracking him in the mouth with crossfaces. The brawling in this match was great too, Arn has a really pretty right hand and Regal was just vicious with uppercuts and headbutts. Finish run was very exciting as they worked the countdown with Arn desperately trying for the belt and Regal stalling. The crowd was super into the match at this point, chanting USA and popping huge for Arn's spinebuster. Finish was pretty surprising, as Regal gets the pin by holding onto Dundee's umbrella with 15 seconds left. It was a twist in a good way as everyone was expecting either an Arn win or a time limit draw. 1994 maybe the best in ring year in wrestling history, and this felt on the level of the other great matches of that year. If this looks like something on paper you would like, go watch it, it truly exceeds expectations.

1 Hr. + matches from 2000 - present
I am pretty sure that the womens fed run by DOI had multiple hour plus matches with Mercedes Martinez which I imagine were claw out your eyes bad. Also pretty sure there was an indy which ran a 7 hour or something match. I remember trying to taunt SLL into watching it for Segunda Caida
